Maybe this has been asked before, but I would like to know how I'm supposed to create a desktop shortcut for ED Horizons since this became a DLC and not a separate entry in my games list anymore. When I create one now using the 'normal' steam way I get only the Elite Dangerous launcher with no options to play Horizons. Only if I press the play button on the steam client I get an option to launch Horizons.
I hope there's a solution for this, or that this will be fixed in a next update, since it's not very user friendly to need to open the steam client every time first to play the Horizons version. ;-)

Greets,

Jan

I'm really sorry to ask this but I've read the opening post of this thread a few times and I still don't understand where I am with these prices. Could someone just give me a quick one-liner to clear up my confusion please? I bought the original release (Elite Dangerous) for 30 GBP, and then I bought Horizons when that came out for another 30 GBP. So I've paid 60 GBP for the game I'm playing now. Is Frontier telling me they want more money for the next content releases (engineers, commanders, et al)? Do I have to buy this 'Horizons Season Pass'? Or are those content releases included in my purchase so far? Thanks in advance.

Your Horizons purchase became Horizons Season Pass. They have simply made the stand-alone Horizons game into the DLC Season Pass, so it's all under 1 game of Elite Dangerous with Season Passes instead of full new game for each season.

Your Horizons Season Pass (which used to be your ED Horizons stand alone) is for ALL the content within Horizons season - currently released and to be released.

No you don't need to spend anymore till next year season 3. you have everything up to 2.4. You will get 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 at no additional cost.

All of it... except the 80% of the Horizons expansions that FD has yet to deliver.

Generalization ASSUMING 2.0 is only 20% of the the total package that makes up season 2.

Example 2.0 could be 40% of the total coding effort for season 2 and the 4 updates 15% each but we wont know that till we have it all i guess.

Have a nice day

Greetings Commanders,

We wanted to get in touch to let you know about a few changes that we will be making tomorrow and bring you into the conversation with a little bit of early information.

Since the launch of Elite Dangerous Horizons we have had an incredible response from Commanders in the game. The number of amazing videos, screenshots, player events, CG’s and missions have truly taken our breath away. We are so delighted with the way that the community have taken to the game and we’re super excited for the future releases coming to Horizons throughout the season.

The Elite Dangerous community is truly the most incredible group of players we could possibly ask for. We value the thoughts and feedback from our community and we’re always looking at how we can take that feedback on board. This is why we wanted to give you these details ahead of time and be as upfront and clear of the details as possible. We are all a part of the long term development of the game and we’re delighted to be on this voyage together.

Since its launch we have heard some players say they feel confused by Elite Dangerous Horizons and how the purchasing and upgrading of the game works. Thanks to this feedback we are going to changing the way that it appears in the store and on steam.

To reduce confusion, Horizons will be added as a season pass DLC for Elite Dangerous, rather than an individual product. It’s a relatively small change but it means that on steam and on our store there will now be three options

  • Elite Dangerous
  • Elite Dangerous: Horizons Season Pass
  • Elite Dangerous: Deluxe Edition

The deluxe bundle will include the base game, Horizons season pass DLC and some digital goods.

This will be beneficial in a few ways. First of all it will unite the steam community. This means that we will only have 1 community hub. This is something players have asked for and we’re happy to listen. It also means that the products are clearer for people to understand, reducing confusion, which can only be a good thing!

However, this does mean that Steam Horizons players will have the Horizons portion of their steam game time counter wiped as it moves back to 1 hub (the in-game counter will still work). Nothing will be effected in game but we wanted players to understand the changes and impact fully.

In addition to these there are a couple of other changes we will be making at the same time. The base price of the Horizons season pass DLC will be £25 (or equivalent in other currencies) and will not include access to Elite Dangerous, this must be purchased separately. It will still include the entire season of content coming in Horizons. This means that the current loyalty discount to Elite Dangerous: Horizons will no longer exist as all existing players will be able to upgrade directly to the Horizons season pass.

Finally, by way of a special thank you to everyone who has already bought Horizons before these changes are made, we are giving you an unreleased Asp Explorer gold paint job. And don’t forget, you still have access to the Cobra Mk IV, and this will apply to all players that buy Horizons (and already own Elite Dangerous) before the changes go live tomorrow – new players that get the new deal will not get it.

Here’s a look at the wonderful golden Asp which will be coming to all existing Horizons players, and those that buy before tomorrow. :)

Once again, I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for your incredible continued support and for joining us on this incredible journey. We’d love to get your thoughts and feedback as always so please do let us know below and we will be on hand to answer any questions you might have.

Thanks

TFW you bought Horizons on February 6th

I don't generally necro old threads, but I didn't see a more appropriate place for this than here, so...

Frontier Folks;

You have it within your grasp to truly capitalize on what you've got here in a big way. I'm going out on a limb here, and will make an assumption or two, the first being that your modelers have used some industry-standard 3-d modeling program to create all the ship models, stations, SRV's, bases, and all the other 3d assets in this game. If that is so, then the next assumption would be that the original source files still exist, and that the program used to create these has the ability to export or save a copy of these files in .STL format. I would quite gladly make a purchase from the store of an .STL format of quite a few of these models.

Now, just in case you're not seeing the purpose of this, or for those reading who are wondering what I'm going on about... .STL is Stereolithography format, and it is a model file format that can be sent directly (assuming the file has been checked for holes) to a 3d Printer, thus enabling us to make our own scale model, perfect in every detail, paint-them-ourselves, plastic model spaceships, planetary installations, space station, SRV's and the like.

And this would save considerably money having to have these either mass-produced and shipped around the world too.

Please take this into the most serious of considerations.

And for the average reader - if you've got the money to spend on a good HOTAS, footpedals, and Oculus Rift, then a home 3-d printer is absolutely in your budget, if you don't already own a couple!

Game is broke atm. Missions don't work right, cz's won't spawn. So frustrating. Then when I want to but the chrome paint for the cutter it's not in the store. Email said it would be there till 3-17. But it's not there.

''broke'' the game runs and is playable and fun.
Its got bugs , and some hefty issues but its not ''broke'' even NMS (worst space sims ever IMHO event more so than any of derek smarts games) was not broke.

Broke would be like those horrible greenlight games that dont have an .exe

Missions have a few issues but so far in my thousands of hours played I have not had any game breaking ones , if you have I would recomend reporting them because it helps everyone make elite even better

Alas you've fallen foul of the European / US date format difference. The cut-off date was January 3rd, not March 1st. I also got an e-mail on the 3rd reminding me that that the paint jobs were being withdrawn, but whether you got one might depend on what mailing lists you're signed up for, or whether you've made a previous purchase.

Something to note for the future. Frontier are a UK-based company and will tend to use UK or EU formats for dates. Personally, in lieu of the ideal of everyone adopting ISO 8601, I think companies with international customer bases should avoid this sort of problem by using full words for dates ("January 3rd 2017"). But this isn't the first time Frontier have fallen into this particular trap and it probably won't be the last.

Or maybe the US can join the rest of humanity by using a proper date format.
