Just ordered the tobii eyex

I tested the eyeX about two years back, and it's shocking to see how "innacurate" the eyes are.
The device and it tracking was brilliant. Our gaze just isn't what we believe it is. We did a paper on it. Change me life's perspective somewhat.

I've been in two minds whether to take the plunge as sort of a poorMans VR.
So the 4C with head-tracking has my attention.

The only issues is that any Tracking system, the screen does not move with the head.
Meaning head moved, eyes remained focus on the screen.
Eye tracking at least followed a native glance, it would be interesting to see how both head and eye tracking combine.

Well I will say it feels quite natural. Mainly because it is so close to how it would work in real life (although clearly not quite the same).

So when you turn your head right the viewport shifts right, but you find yourself looking back to the screen with your eyes.

I think the key is having the headtracking sensitive enough so you're not straining your eyes so much.

The issue I'm finding is looking up, The 4C does not seem to be able to track too well when I look up, for up it seems to be relying almost exclusively on eye tracking to "get there".

Left, right and down work great however. Are others seeing this?

maybe a silly suggestion, because i don't really know how this works with the 4c, but could it be a calibration issue, or position of the sensors?

Traditionally they are mounted on the bottom of the screen. So the eyes might be out of view somewhat. But there might be a reason for the bottom position. My uneducated guess would be the upper eyelids(and lashes) occlude more often than the bottom eyelids, so the lower viewpoint provides better overall tracking.

On VR: No, it is not. But by not being so, it has one huge advantage: i don't get disconnected from the world around me. Mind you, would i be alone in my gaming room, i probably would prefer VR, but as my girl usually is along i don't want to "lock myself away" with her being a meter next to me, full VR just feels wrong to me.
.
So with full VR being no real Option, this is the very best for camera control in Elite Dangerous. :)

I don't have the 4C, but what you describe also happens on the "old" EyeX when i lean back and thus am out of its proper detection range. The camera then goes down and does not want to go up any more. I really wish they could up the range by 20 cm or so.

Maybe it's a good self-christmas gift :D do someone have a discount code for 4c?

I believe Obsidian reviewed it and buying direct using a code from his video gets a discount. You have to pay shipping costs though
I got mine from Scan Computers in the U.K. Good price and works brilliantly. Loving the new dimensions to game play.

Just ordered the 4C tracker today, can't wait to try it !
I think it will greatly enhance my ED experience (as in some driving simulations I own) and as my rig only meets the minimum requirements for a VR solution, it will be a good compromise until I have a better opportunity to upgrade it and take the plunge into the VR experience [big grin]

Jumping back into Elite after taking a break. Forever I've had a TrackIR3 Pro (the LEDs on your head one, not the hat clip, attached to my light mic only headset) and it's worked well. How much better is this? I also have an Oculus but sometimes you just don't want to wear that thing on your head. Thanks!

it's simply AMAZING. Only eye tracking for now, still to learn how to use HEAD tracking in a profitable way

Here are my settings after some tests with head tracking enabled:

Infinite screen enabled

Gaze: extended view
- Responsiveness 40%
- Sensivity:
Speed 3.00
Exponent 2.50
Inflection point 0.80
Start point 0.00
End point: 1.00

- View Angle:
Yaw 90%
Pitch 50%

Head tracking: direct
- Responsiveness 80%
- Sensivity:
Speed 7.50
Exponent 1.25
Inflection point 0.50
Start point 0.02
End point: 1.00

Eyetracking-only mode stress my eyes very much, introducing head tracking is more eye-friendly but gave me a bit of motion sickness at the start... I'm getting comfortable as long as as I use it.

Made the eyex my self gift. Ordered on 23rd will arrive today.

Its reduced to 109€+ shipping because the 4c is the top model now.

I think lakon ships will be a thing with this because of the glass-house...

Thanks for these settings.
I got one for Xmas and initial results weren't that great, but I haven't given it a proper tune so hoping for lots more.

Really? That's interesting. I also have the 4c by now, but when i modify the pitch angle, it freezes ED. There's nothing i found i could do about that, and actually only thanks to a report on the forum on Tobii, where somebody reported the same problem, i was able to resolve the issue. (Setting the angle back to 90 degrees, THEN uninstalling and reinstalling the software. )
.
I'd be curious why things are fine for you. *ponder*

So in a way the 4c seems a bit similar to the EyeX when i got it anew: good hardware, but not fully stable software yet. For the EyeX it took them about 3 months after launch till i considered the software to be stable and useful and two more to get to what i considered "good". Now i'll see how things turn out on the 4c, but at least things are useable right from the start, there are issues but not as bad as when the EyeX came out. :)

Just got my 4c and it is so much better than the eyex for me - The head tracking is so much nicer for me with fine control with the eyes.

I just ordered the 4C, after previously having the EyeX.

I don't really have a clue how the two work together - I found eye-tracking really "cool" (eye movement is so intuitive it feels as if you're controlling the camera with your mind!) but too twitchy and imprecise for gaming. I also have a TrackIR which is still what I use. If I can get the 4c's head-tracking without the inconvenience of the TrackIR's clip and cable, I'll be happy.

I should really have done more research though - I don't even know if the 4C replaces the EyeX or if you use both at the same time? Can you turn off eye-tracking and just use head-tracking?

Mine gave me eye strain, as I'm constantly looking all over the screen. If you're just exploring it's fine but not for combat.
