If the obelisk required Orb + Tablet or whatever, we both had to have it in our SRVs. When one of us scanned the obelisk, we both got the research. If one of us had Orb + Tablet, and the other had just Orb, only the guy with the Orb + Tablet got the research on that scan.

Although it seemed to be something weird early on. I was scanning obelisks (hadn't look a the spreadsheet yet) and the guy I was winged with got the research, not me. Only happened twice, but I don't know if it was just a glitch or what.

Yeah, i stopped paying attention to the spreadsheet when I tried 3 or 4 "known" combinations at many diff obelisks with no dice. so I swapped to my method of just going through each combination and picking random obelisks to scan - scan a few, go back to ship and grab a new object until all combinations were covered. Just brute force, but with no respect to the specific obelisk.

The decoding could be tied to the obelisk, or the random eng data the obelisk gives out.
the random eng data changes even if you scan the same obelisk - this could account for the discrepancies between right cargo and wrong obelisk. if the right cargo and the right eng data are discovered, then the obelisk itself might not be too much of a concern.

But how do you know if the obelisk required an object? I'm trying to wrap my head around all this.

At one stage, the inconsistent results even lead me to wonder if the ancient artefacts lying on the ground might be skewing the results. I.e. the "unlock" checking includes any artefacts within range, not just those in the Scarab's cargo hold.

Edit - from reading elsewhere, some Cmdrs are dropping the ancient items near the obelisks rather than having them in the hold. If that works, that could be skewing the results. At at least one obelisk, there's a nearby loose item that would be included in the scan.

Maybe you can even just dump all 6 items by every obelisk, and unlock everything! :p

I wonder if this could have something to do with why some of the obelisks were moved..

Me and DrifterBG are getting scans saying Data Already Accessed, and not finishing a scan on the obelisk. Doesnt matter what combination of objects in inventory at that point.

This could be a mechanic?

I haven't actually started this mission yet, tho I have been to the ruins on two occasions,
I noticed in the thread that sometimes the obelisks will change, suddenly some will have data when they didn't before.

On earth, with these kinds of sites, through archaeology they have found almost entirely across the board that they are aligned with astronomical points,
often it is the sun at a certain time, or the moon, or certain stars.

I would put a bet on that the ruins of Synuefe are aligned at certain times to certain astronomical points in the sky.
When this happens I would also bet that for a window of time other Obelisks will become activate.

Iv had this happen, maybe an obelisk sometimes contains more than one data packet & this comes up when the obelisk has been exhausted of data

The message from Ram Tah says so : "They key is using ancient objects with active obelisks to unlock it". ("It" in this context means the data from the ruins.)

Okey cmdrs after a night without sleep im finally done with my mapping, puuhhh! [noob] [zZzZz]

Thats the well known map we had until know:

Because i had a different sequence of the numbering at the beginning and the map after we work also changed in the night, i cant prove around 1/5 of my obelisk numbering.
Apart from this everything is correct! All 13 combinations (R+To, R+U etc.) match with the correct data(Historic etc.).
Ignore the german shortcuts.

Sounds like that's what should be happening rather than our mysterious critical update but then no message. Seems like you guys are the only two without that net bug :p You should have 23 records by now right?

i'm pretty skeptical about the whole process anyhow because I found a data at a certain obelisk yesterday, told everyone in open what I used and sat there and 2 o3 three people tried, and for some the obelisk wasnt even glowing, others scanned it and got nothing with same cargo

can you please share at least which type of data do you have? The majority of us is stopped at 13, and all the same.

My inbox is completely bugged, sometimes I get messages and they instantly disappear, sometimes I get no messages at all.
Is this a known problem?

When this happens at that time, I would also put bet that is the reason why other Obelisks become activate.

Yeah, so spending my time looking at the ruins, we've started talking about alignments in Open a bit.
The skybox rotates though. What times of day might one suggest we be looking for alignment to occur??

A little more information if needed. I did all 405 combinations at least once. All the combinations with the Relict and the Totem i did twice.

I was all the time in solo play. I had a lot that i got no information from Ram and also the "bug"?? that you hear the message "Mission critical something" and see it shortly flash in youre message panel but nothing is there.
Although had i never the feeling that i lost or missed a real data set.

So far the standard 13 are:

Biology 7: U+R
Biology 9: U+C

History 8: C+U
History 10: C+U
History 11: C+Ta
History 12: C+O
History 14: C+R
History 15: C+To

Language 8: Ta+O/R?
Language 12: Ta+O/U?
Language 14: Ta+R

Technology 7: O+C/R?
Technology 10: O+U

These seem confirmed by multiple CMDRs, even if the obelisk changes, just use these combos on different obelisks to get the set. (ones with question marks are where there is some small discrepancy, possibly caused by the getting message by scanning your next obelisk bug)

In addition, mad_nox and DrifterBG (only) seem to have found another 12 records, but they did not record the combinations or whether they were able to confirm each others results.
