The conversion to decimal results in the following numbers:
hex 8017a is decimal 524666
hex d5767 is decimal 874343
hex 22e871 is decimal 2287729
hex 10326 is decimal 66342
hex 7ec5 is decimal 32453
hex 53b5dcdd3e is decimal 359533436222
hex 6d8d3174e05 is decimal 7528324222469
hex 2559100c4e9 is decimal 2566528222441
hex 2a999c30062 is decimal 2927452422242
hex 444f6c265d6 is decimal 4694244222422
hex 5cc1e80c397 is decimal 6374243222423
hex 2144681647e2 is decimal 36577687783394

It is sometimes easier to see meaning in the decimal equivalents of hexadecimal numbers

grasping at straws here, but don't we have a galactic coordinate system? these are 12 numbers. That could either mean that each number contains its own three coordinates and we could form two hexagons or each number is one coordinate, which would yield us with 4 systems... the number of beacons we have. I do not think however, that the Z-Axis (or any for that matter) have 36577.... as a coordinate and all those are positive numbers as well :/

So Professor Palin's statements has left me further confused. Can anyone confirm that in the Elite Dangerous timeline Thargoids were a thing? Is everyone just assuming they are dead?

They were a thing, they feature in many of the novels written during kickstarter.
Out of the Darkness by T. James is almost exclusively about a run in with Thargoids and is set in 3275 so only 28 years ago (in Game time).
I'm pretty sure it mentions the earlier Thargoid/human 'war' and the peace treaty that was signed by both sides.
Humans and Thargoids are currently in a state of peace.
If i remember correct Polaris is also a locked permit star and that's because i believe the peace treaty negotiations were held there? Someone might be able to correct me on this info.

There is a quote somewhere from the Devs that the general populous don't really know about them because the war happened on the fringes of the bubble and was more raids than capital ships/fleets, so for the majority they are sort of a myth.

The message found along with all that Hex code mentions the Ferent System? Is that a place?

Could be different system with the dif cut off since there's fragmented text. As if they ended up in a different system than they planned

I was thinking the same thing myself at first.

Before you get too invested in trying to solve this, just a little reminder that the station message those hex numbers are from was from June so over half a year ago. Unless they planned all of this puzzle back then.

Well lets hope this works:

A lot of people (17) at the ruins tonight in Mobius. Took a couple of shots:

The final image in particular when I came into land (I wasn't just taking action shots!) -The area of land between the Pyramid feature to the right of the main large circular feature (Which mean people think is some sort of launch pad) is very flat on my ship's radar/scanner image as I came in - distinctly so, and in triangular shape. Do we think this is significant in any way, or just an artifact of how the game engine renders the scanner image?

I'm guessing the latter but doesn't hurt to ask. The actual terrain in game certainly isn't that flat at all.

Given that the ruins have been edited by forces unknown in this update.. I did a reconnoitre of the area around the ruins to see if anything new had been added. The fact that there are only 4 pillars when everything else is in 5s just doesn't sit right with me. I reckoned that plenty of Cmdrs would have landed just outside the ruins, so confined the search to uneven areas where ships wouldn't be able to land.

Found thus far: nothing. Nada. Bupkis.

I was thinking of doing that too once the sun came up. A beacon tower would only look like a pile of rocks from the air. Easy to miss. It could be in some of the nearby canyons too.

I do agree most likely the remaining combos will be found at other sites. Still, a search for a small "mode switch" might be worthwhile.

Also I'm a bit bored with the ruins. There are only a couple of combos I'm missing and waiting around for the right beacon to light up is not especially entertaining.

Moving to decimal does expose some oddities.
The 6th to 11th numbers all have 222 or 4222 and have a similar feel
the 10th and 11th are very very similar, with just a few digits changed in various locations.
There's not a single zero (0) in the whole set, which makes me wonder whether this decodes to an image, not a string...
...but if it is a string I'd guess that 222 translates to " " {space}

Sorry just dumping thoughts.

seeing as all five data types that we're getting start at 7 and go to 12~16, I think there are two more ruin sites left to be found
so.... everyone go start looking!
