PVP piracy - Destroyed three trader ships over 4t of cargo... help me understand

If the Pirate made a demand, I'd be open to haggling about it, as a true merchant would! :) Honestly, I'd probably try and get them on good terms so they can be my pirate in my back pocket.

Makes no sense. I enjoy a proper bit of piracy and will always donate even though I know I can get clean away.

You can't use engineer comm's as an excuse but maybe it was one of those gifts to unlock an engineer or mission specific stuff?

It was at a drop-cargo-CG. They didn't stop for a cargo scan. I was only interested in CG cargo and would have let them go otherwise.

I am kind of surprised you are surprised OP.
If someone tried to rob you and steal from you in any game (or real life for that matter) are you just going to roll over like a dead dog and give it up?

But we are in a game. Soooo....
1) They don't want to be stolen from.
2) They don't want to be stolen from and think they can get away.
3) They don't mind being blown up.
4) They don't want to be your content. But their in Open so I guess that negates that notion.

So #'s 1, 2, or 3. Take your pick.

Good summary. I think I was more surprised by the unlucky streak I had. Maybe it's because I was in a FAS this time rather than a smaller, less threatening ship.

I'd probably just run away, pirate or murderer, I'm not hanging around to find out. Lol

But, if I did notice a hail asking for Cargo, that I'm actually carrying (hate lazy pirates assuming I'm carrying something without checking!), then I will drop as much as they can carry.
Unless I believe can actually kill them. Lol

But I'll likely just run. I'll only surrender if I can't escape. (I won't log).

So here's a question for all you pirates:

Do you limit your piracy just to the actual trade ships (Type-6, Type-7, Type-9) or are you willing to take on Corvettes, Cutters and Anacondas as well? Granted, most folks (mis)using these for trade ships are going to be more bluster than substance, but I'm just curious.

I have pirated cutters in haulers for fun. If the bigger ship is equipped for trading then I may try but unless you can mass lock them they'll may just laugh and low wake out. One of the destroyed traders promised to come back in an Anaconda (he was in an ASP) but I couldn't find him later. I would have enjoyed that PVP encounter, maybe he would have as well.

Corvette is the only trade ship I still own. My Courier and FDL don't hold much cargo and my Clipper is in mothballs. I sold everything else.

Most 'actual' pirates ignore me because they know they aren't going to get anything, but the Corvette does attract all sorts of more overtly hostile attention from those who want a little action and a chance to cost someone a 30 million credit rebuy...which is sometimes annoying, but a perfectly legitimate way to play the game, as far as I am concerned.

What surprises me the most n the first place, is the fact that people still haven't high waked by the time a pirate sends his demands...

So I was pirating at the Parun CG last night and had 6, or so, customers. My demands were: drop 4t (four!) of cargo. I've stated demands before opening fire (and waited for a response) and then repeatedly while firing at the target. I let players go if they dropped cargo even if they tried to run first (other pirates may not).

But: Some players chose to be destroyed rather than dropping 4t. They are in Open with the chance of piracy and when someone comes along with very reasonable demands they seem to prefer losing their ship over it??

Help me understand.... Why?
Well if they can pay the rebuy, I can see plenty being annoyed enough not wanting to reward pirates for their behaviour.

That said, I still wonder why PvP piracy is the focus people take when they think piracy, PvE piracy is very viable, of course, you can't simply demand stuff by them, but rather you need to hatch break and such.

Because PvE piracy is boring?

You can't talk to AI and get a meaningful response... with players, you can. Remember, pirates don't pirate for money, we pirate for fun. Money is a side effect of that fun. It comes if we're good at it, and we enjoy it, but the fun is our meal.

Hey pal, try to shoot their thursters out... most people become very civil when they realise that they cant run or fight anymore.... the sucess rate of a piracy attack is 10% at the start of a interdiction,30% when you actually pull then to normal speed, and 70% when you remove their trhusters...

Believe me they do read those messages they just don't take you seriously.... So is up to you to show then that you are in power of their fate, FOR REAL....

I've yet to write some macro for this kind of situation, most times i like to write what com e into my head....

"Ok the fight is over, now prepare to hand over the cargo. 10 tones" or something like that , that both states that you'll not kill him but you want the cargo is very effective... most people just reply with "K" but that's fine... another detail, always ask for cargo drop BEFORE reboot, while is best to get all the cargo in the same place, asking for the cargo first means that you wont see any dirty trick...

if you'd like, we have a pirate discord where you'd be welcome to join:
