For what it's worth, I watched the spinning spherish scannerish thingy on the Gamma base rotate a few times and did not notice it stopping in any direction, any visual or audio cues that it might be sending or receiving data. Unless something happens with it depending on time, like the beacons, I think it's just there as scenery.

Did Salome find the lurking evil, or did she find these bases, read the logs, and realise that this was a special ops mission with some high-level Fed/Imp backing. But at the moment it seems like it was all Federation so how was the Empire involved?

Keeping in mind the jump technology of 3270, it would have to be within 15 lightyears, 20 at most. But probably much closer than that.

This heat source is either a fixed object, like a base or something on a planet surface, or a ship. Right now, I'm leaning toward ship which means it's probably moved in the last 30 years. That also makes me wonder if what we're looking for is mobile, making it harder to find?

Looks like I drew a short straw somewhere along the line. These long range missions pay well, but it's a year out in the void. A year ! We're out far beyond the frontier. The boys call this place the "Formidine Rift". Apparently that means "terror" in some old earth language. Nice. Just looks like more space to me.

Finally arrived in place after five months of hyperspace travel. Now we have two months of laying a bunch of beacons before another five months travel back home. At least I'll have enough credits to retire by then.

Supposedly there are a bunch of other ships out here doing the same job as us, but no comms allowed. All a bit strange. it's vast and lonely out here, pretty much the whole galaxy is behind us. It's getting to some of the crew.

We picked up some kind of bizarre signal yesterday. Whatever it was wasn't human. At least, that's the scuttlebutt going around the decks. Everyone is looking out of the canopies now. We're seeing some strange lights during hyperspace transits. Terror ? Yeah, we got some of that ...

More strange lights. We've got equipment malfunctions, scanners dropping in and out, systems restarting. Ship is limping on. Everyone wants to turn about, but if we don't complete the mission we don't get paid. No one wants to give up those credits either. You expect to turn around and see ...

We're done and we're heading home. We picked up some heat signature in the last system. Definitely something there and it wasn't any profile I had seen before. Something was watching us. There's something evil out here, and it doesn't like compagny !

Unfortunately no $ beacon here but found some materials around base.

Re beacons, yea I was thinking that just before the CG ended, so I went on the hunt, not knowing they'd shut off the beacons because of the ctd :(. So yea, worth investigating, although I'm going to help in the search on the last rift planet for now.

I'm going to pull out of searching GL-Y E2 6 now. I've suffered a fairly bad ding to my ship, and am at 54% hull. I don't fancy playing around with the 1.34G's at the moment. I'll do some searching around nearby systems instead.

Yea fair enough, & that would be handy too, pity I can't directly share my local gal map to you so we don't scan the same systems. (Unless we can via EDDi?).

I Seriously flew right over that exact spot a few days ago and apparently missed it :(
This was before being told t turn shadows off, etc... or must have been distracted for a minute who knows...
Once again proves that planet exploration mechanics need serious improvement.

If you have shadows turned on in the graphics settings you would not even see it.

How ridiculous is that? This is what we have to deal with. It's hard enough as it is.

The amount of time we are being asked to search such huge areas and you literally won't see it if you have shadows on.

Think about that, if you've spent hours upon hours searching, like many of us have, you might have flown right over it but missed it because shadows were on.

I was just going to mention something about blue poi circles, but realized they do not appear for these bases or for the ruins.
which is frankly ridiculous
