So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

REMINDER:

Cmdr Zach's summary of the Dynasty Expedition Beacons can be read here:

When Hawkin's Gap Delta 2/4 says "...got our orders today, we're making for a zone called "Hawkin's Gap"; then five weeks later 4/4 says "cargo deployed." How could they get there so fast? It took the Formidine Rift mission five or six months to get to the site. Maybe it's like those old WWII submarine movies were the Captain can't tell the crew were their going until they are well underway. Lose lips sink ships.

Anaconda's that have been stripped down and prepped for long range travel move a lot faster than T9s loaded down with cargo. But yeah, I know. Not all the puzzle pieces seem to fit just right.

Probably a coincidence of no real significance. The six messages from the Formidine Rift Beta and Gamma sites all have the same time stamps.

What bugs me is that we haven't encountered any of the strange things mentioned in the logs in any of the 3 areas. I'm not aware of any hyperdictions, distress beacons, strange signals or heat sources in the Rift, Gap or Conflux. Where did all these things go?

Sorry. Until you pose that question on an Elite livestream "space legs" it is :(

In that case, it will be my mission to get that question asked on the next one!

That and finding out if Sandro was responsible for a Han Solo Dance off and where we'll have that kind of thing in 'Elite Feet'!

;)

lol. I only heard her voice. Didn't see her face :) She sounds a lot like Toby Longworth though ...

That's why it stinks so strongly of INRA. That would imply joint involvement of both the Federation and the Empire.

I asked Drew about the audiobook voice actors. He told me that the budget only allowed 1 voice actor (a guy) voice every character in the story. He was a talented guy of many voices, but there was no way to completely hide his gender when voicing Kahina and Octavia. The result was I kept picturing them in drag. It's too bad they couldn't hire 2 actors. Hopefully next time.

another thought to the message from alpha base -
"Stars thin out, you can see the whole galaxy just hanging there. ... The darkness grows. The galaxy is faint and dim behind us. I'm told this place has been nicknamed the Formidine Rift."
i was just in the formidine rift area - roughly the heisenberg bridge area - i did not see the galaxy to be so far away. I think this area is to close. you have to go much further.
but than you come to the outer arm. and the stars do not thin out than.
i flew almost to the outer egde of the outer arm - roughly the direction of heisenberg bridge- and there, when the stars thin out, i would say you get the impression to see the whole galaxy.
So maybe they were flying beyond the outer arm, but than the formidine rift would be beyond the outer arm? or they were flying more in direction of the outer arm vacuus ?

Octavia sounds like a khajiit from skyrim

Could be any relation between all the sites? The ones found are all in the Southern Hemisphere.

Formidine Rift Alpha Mission
I'm scared... help me someone... I can't bear another jump. The lights in witch-space are coming for me. The lights... always the lights... they're calling to me... a siren song... I must join them...

Formidine Rift Alpha Mission
AUTOMATED TELEMETRY REPORT: CANOPY BLAST BOLTS ACTIVATED. LIFE SUPPORT MALFUNCTION. CREW VITAL SIGNS TERMINATED. SHIP SYSTEMS ENGAGING STANDBY MODE. DISTRESS BEACON ACTIVATED.

Anybody else read this as suicide by ejection?

FYI:
This suggestion got Drew Rep - so no following the pretty lights you guys!

So that also ties in with this:

Hawkins Gap Alpha Mission 4/4
Expedition Log: 13/10/3270
"Still, it could be worse! I could have pulled the Formidine Rift gig. Rumour is they're having to double up on ships for that one as the crews are going void-mad and ejecting themselves into space becuase they've seen ghosts. Word is there's something out there."

Then there's this:

Hawkin's Gap Gamma Mission 4/4
Expedition Log: 01/10/3270
"I'm logging this, but I shouldn't be. Bunch of guys were talking about the beacons yesterday and then there was a mysterious accident in the airlock - they're all dead! Feeling aboard is mutinous. Just want to get back home. I ain't doing no top secret missions again, that's for sure."

Taken in isolation, the implication is that they were killed because they were discussing the beacons. However, it could be a continuation of the the 'suicide by ejection' theme.

I keep thinking of Edwin Odesseiron from Baldur's Gate 2...
.
I've been through the Conflux a few times but only once since 2.2 dropped. I don't remember anything about the hyperspace environment that stood out as odd but this would be a great way to let players know that they passing through a region that might be hosting a presence and to be on their guard. I'm thinking about a mini-tour after 2.3 to see if this is being done and, if so, to locate regions of potential activity. Depending on events (irl as well as in game), I might be a bit busy with other things, though.

Good spot! Worth checking out (sry, I'm in M67 for the next few days so I'm not able to look for it myself). What about the sites in Hawking's Gap?
