Who Needs Fuel Rats???

Well, I almost did. Cut it close enough that I looked up their contact info just in case. :D

It's a point of pride that I've never needed them, but it's nice to know they are there if I do.

Hip hip hurrah for the Fuel Rats.

When I did my 5500+ LY journey for Palin I hit a stretch where I was about to look them up also, but found a star just close enough to reach to refuel, was under a 3 ly jump and good thing as 3+ and I would have called for their help. The trip back (went a slightly different route to get scan data), I was a bit more careful and no close calls. Like many I am glad the fuel rats are out there ready to help.

Needed them once in my 11 LY Corvette which dried out one jump before HEL (CG at that time) and there was no scoopable star nearby. Since synthesis wasn't a thing bsck then I relaxed and cooled down my Vette so at some point that small DBE would refill my huge Vette. :p

Thank you again. :)

I went out exploring a bit in my Sidey. Only 750ly.

Somehow I ended up in a system I couldn't scoop from. I had enough fuel for a single jump, less than 3ly.
I left my ship in SC as I browsed the GalMap, trying to fix my filtering. Got it fixed, found a scoopable star and tried to jump.
Failed. No fuel. 15min in SC and two bars of fuel were used up.
I went back to the main menu and reset my save game in utter disgust.
I only had like 250k credits as it was basically a fresh save, so I didn't lose much.

I would love to know though how my population filter got adjusted (I certainly didn't change it) and how my filter which was ALWAYS set to scoopable-only systems somehow managed to route me to a T-class system.

Anyway, the game hates me when I try to explore. [haha]

When you plot a route by filter in elite, if you do AFTER you have already plotted your course initially then it will stick to the filter until it runs out of your stars selected but will then add a random nearest star to your filter preferences in route. Ie; you set only f types and your in a field of Y type stars. it will look for the nearest F type and plot a course through those Y type stars to it.

I was moving contraband in my Python. Ran out of stars to jump to.
Fuel Rats saved the day.
Thought: hang on, I got out here why can't I get back?
Then I realised I had my population slider up too high and that's why I couldn't find scoopables!
Thankfully Fuel Rats even help numptys!

When I managed to reset my filters to what it was, I was surrounded by scoopables for hundreds of light years.

From the time I left my starting point ( some station in the bubble ), until my untimely demise, my filter was set to scoopable only with a min population at it's lowest.
I then logged out in space, and returned a day or two later to find that something had gone horribly wrong; my pop limit was set to it's default value it seems.

So yeah, things just went wrong, lol. I'm over it now, will start from scratch - still, very frustrating.

I've had to get someone to refuel me on at least three separate occasions, but I have yet to use the Fuel Rats service.

Well, I almost did.

You had a solid 20+ minutes of SC and 35+ minutes of normal flight left there! You may even have been able to manage a useful jump.

I was once in a CZ when I realized I had about 90 seconds of fuel left and had to shut off everything except life support as I drifted from the battle and waited for assistance.

Running out of fuel in a battle is harsh. Glad you got out of it.

Luckily, I've never needed them. But as Riverside said, I'm glad they're out there.

It's good to know that even in a cutthroat galaxy, there are people out there willing to help.

I'm one fo the inglorious few that have called on them twice. The service was so good the first time I just had to go back for more! (or i'm a bit of a numpty who didn't learn from his first mistake!

long live the Rats!

Here we go again: More blatant promotion and advertising for the biggest private enterprise in the game. These guys are making credits hand over fist, they pay no taxes and get pages and pages of free advertising. Now apparently they have adverts in stations, whatever next I wonder, logos for their ships no doubt?

They no have any scruples about who they deal with, or what faction you may belong too, clean or wanted, they just don't care. They will go to the ends of the Galaxy, just to help any commander in distress and they don't even ask any questions, or keep accounts. I mean, there should be forms, filled in in triplicate and filed with the appropriate authorities and complete vetting of clients. Just a bunch of reckless publicity seeking commanders who increase their power base, with every so called rescue. I have heard that they even have station staff making holes in fuel tanks, just to increase their business interests.

I have never needed them myself and don't believe that I ever will; I mean, who can't read a fuel gauge? Well me; almost!

The other day while returning to Cubeo from Maia, I had made seven jumps and wondering why I had not found any scoop-able stars, when I remembered I was testing the module enforcement module and my fuel scoop was still in storage at Maia. With not enough fuel to retrace my steps; I was really cursing my numerous unflattering posts towards this wonderful organization. Only after persistent scanning the galaxy map for one small place to re-fuel in the void that surrounds the Maia system, did I managed to avoid having to prostrate myself and humbly ask for their assistance.
