Promising start... growly vocals begin. Nope. Closed.

For how to do it right, see Hammerfall, Judas Priest, Iron Maidern...

We clearly have different tastes.

You should hear some of the REAL black metal I listen to.

Amon Amarth is, hmm, cute, compared to some of my other favourites.

I wouldn't use the word "cute" and expect to live, face to face. :D
How about... hmmm.... "Relatively temperate"?

It's one of those bands that are obsessed with certain themes, like Running Wild (pirates) and Manowar (Conan the barbarian style), or simply "sword music" as my brother used to call them. Funny how a New York band like Manowar caught more traction in Europe than NA, I think it's more suitable for singalongs which we like over here.

LOVE IT.

I do like a bit of thematic metal.
Try Battle Beast, their 1st 2 albums (Steel & Battle Beast) at least, what I've heard of the latest one is a bit too pop-like IMO) :)

Sorry, I don't see the point. I want vocals worthy of the name, not somebody growling / shouting hoarsely over the often well played instruments. It's the most bizarre and overrated genre of music I know, and I've got quite a wide taste.

Heck, I'm 32 and can't grow a full beard. I can grow a solid looking goatee, but then I'd have a goatee :(

There are only about half a dozen ethnic origins I'd need to trace down before I could blame my ancestry.

A lot of what I listen to is rather, well... I don't know what it is. But I find the nature of black metal to be very, well, believe it or not, soothing.

It's the atmosphere or mood created by use of keyboards if we're talking about early stuff from Dimmu Borgir and Emperor. Some bands like Darkthrone didn't and you have fans arguing if it's "kvlt" enough. Silly people if you ask me, too hung up on genre and what defines it, either you like it or don't. So it's hard for me to explain what music I like because it could be anything from Vangelis to 1349.

Russian metal from 1860.

This was the combat music in Frontier Elite 2, used to drive me nuts.
