EDProfiler - A New Display Switcher/Robust Settings Profiler/Switcher/Detector!

I have a 916SP which Ive owned for 20yrs due to that fella. He pretty much made me a Ducati obsessed freak. I shall own that till I die. :)

Oddly enough Ive never been into bike racing games. Cars yes, but bikes no. However with VR that may change. The possibilities are staggering. I can only imagine the possibilities the future holds for VR. The yoof of today are gonna get it good. Lucky bleeders.

]I suspect my card is naff. Its an AMD R390X 8Gb. If anyone is also using this card please reply with your findings/settings etc.

I have that card (MSI version) and have no issues (unless you count it doubling up as a heater :)) The settings I am currently using:

HMD Image Quality 1.5 [makes the UI much sharper]
SS 1.0
AA Off [having it on makes the cockpit text blurry]
Model Draw Distance 3 steps to right [need to play with this more as I never notice any difference]
Texture Quality High
Shadows Off [only because they are buggy unless set to Ultra]
Reflections High
Ambient Occlusion Off
Env Quality Medium
FX Quality Low
Material Quality Low
DOF Off

I can tell that ATW is working hard when in the hangar but overall the card copes fairly well in VR. Usually get 90FPS in space.

Turn your HUD Brightness to zero and it almost entirely goes away.

Indeed and turning down Gamma as much as possible also helps with god-rays as this affects the whole image including station services menu. Oh and and set Bloom to Off.

Actually I found that High was OK (i.e. my ship's shadow when I'm landing at a planetary base actually looks like my ship rather than a weird vague flickering blob). Mind you, going from Medium to High still hits my framerate but I like shadows so I took the hit and downgraded my SS to 0.75 while keeping HMD quality at 1.5).

I used to have that - it was because when I upgraded from Win7 to Win10 I was still using the old 'XP' custom scaling but when I cleared that and used the regular Win10 scaling setting EDProfiler and a few other apps then displayed correctly (though the text on some apps can still be slightly fuzzy, EDProfiler included).

Yep that was it. Many thanks (and to Dr Kaii too).

Another quick hotfix to 2.2.1.7

1. Fixed the issue when creating a new profile, you get two entries in the profiles list
2. Fixed the message showing "profile saved" when you bring up the overwrite profile dialogue but close without making any change
3. Added a validation in case you pick the wrong ED install location (for the defaults) or the wrong program for the launcher
4. Added a rough auto-detect for the ED Launcher

Decided to have a dig thru the code, re: horizontal resizing, bit bigger than I thought. Quite tidy though ;)

Lol you lie. Try not to look at how many Try / Catches I use inappropriately. Also, please don't make public

Where, other than the exe file properties, can the exact version number of EDprofiler be found? Also, it complained my settings file was corrupted, I let it delete it (made a backup) and it recreated the exact same contents (as I inputted my own HUD colors in EDprofiler).
Also, if I click on "VR High" I get "Could not find a part of the path 'd:\steam\SteamApps\Common\Elite Dangerous\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1002\OptionDefaults\vrhigh.fxcfg'" exception.
My ED is not installed in Steam.
I have shown it where the launcher is and it still happens. It's not critical, just to let you know...

You can't find the exact version without the exe I'm afraid. For the VR High thing, go to your Documents\EDProfiler\Defaults\paths.xml file, delete the path it has for your game install, and then click the VR High button again and locate it.

Make sure you have the latest version so it has the validation happening. Click to check for updates and let it update.

EDProfiler is the latest version as I've just installed it today. Never had it installed before. Does it attempt to autodetect the game path on first run? I ask because I did have and Elite Dangerous folder among the steam games (on drive D: to boot) so it may have found on automatic.
Did the paths.xml edit and it's fine now. Thanks.

My install seems stuck on the preparing application setting. Been like this for a while now. Great work on it though. Thanks!

Have you tried force closing it and trying again?

Yeah, I did. I uninstalled it and it failed when reinstalling. I managed to install after a boot. The prepraing eventually went away, after several minutes. But it will not launch in my system. At least I can not see it :) PM me if you want to keep troubleshooting and errors off the thread :p

edit: cannot see anything in task manager after double clicking icon

Uninstall, go to %localappdata%\apps and rename the folder 2.0 to something else. Also clear any files from temp. Install again from Internet Explorer (not chrome or ff etc). If still not working email me: kaii@dr.com

Ah, ok do me a favour. Click through all of the profiles one by one. When you do that, it updates them with the new settings. Then you can save stuff to them. Thanks for pointing it out, I need to figure out how to handle that

Thanks doc, that did the trick. BTW, on a different topic... I've tried using your hud colours and several other no20 versions, and while I do like how they look in the hud, I've noticed (at least on the ones I've tried which are generally blues) that objects in space change colours somewhat as well, getting a bit of a brownish-red tint. E.g., orbit lines look orangish with default hud config, and darker brown/red with your config (as well as the other no2o ones); the "clouds" in space also take on a bit this tinting as well.

Have you noticed this? I wouldn't have expected the hud colours to affect anything outside the ship, but it's definitely noticeable.
