THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

If i could, i would rep you a hundred times, over and over again.

I'm sorry, but in a story, that is "kind of" (actually, only) driven by role play and lore out of the game, crying about role play that is absolutely on track with the thread is just...well, i have no "nice" word for it. It's beyond stupid. Especially if you have already quit the game and apparently just came here, to spread some self indulging misery. Just get lost and let people make the story without you.

Indeed is such the case, the only concern I have is that, where is it proper for FDEV to determine how far along a story may progress, or what boundaries they may push, and where is it proper for a player to do the same thing.

(thats excluding the concern about using roleplay, in conjunction with a mechanic thats entirely randomized based off seed generation.)
Edit: (thats also excluding the concern about Private Group/Solo and Open Play also existing in a game heavily dominated by role playing and player interaction then forcing your hand on those very players who may not play in the same server with you.)

Why do PG/Solo/Open exclude each other, if the story is part out of game? I actually like it that way, because it gives players a unique opportunity.

Also, the Formidine Rift arc was spanned by Drew Wagar.

Ah. Hostility and insult from kidults who like to Roleplay and pollute the Rifter thread with it.

Welp, as one of the early Rifters from a while back - I'm out. Signature changed to suit.

Enjoy your little games, kids! o7

That seems a bit... extreme...

Especially considering everything about the Rift mystery is story/RP driven to a degree. We are following clues and ramblings given to us in lore and from fictional characters. Drew himself even said to look at it from a writers perspective, and not a game programmers perspective. Adding a small bit of intrigue and excitement into a story arc that has more or less slowed right down or stalled isn't necessarily a bad thing. We will get the details of this new base within a few days or so anyways. I'm not sure if i'm for or against this development just yet myself, I'm not against other people having a bit of fun. It depends if it gets dragged out to the point of being annoying. But I have a bit of patience to see how it turns out. It's a bit of a break from the usual, something that's developing in real-time (as long as it doesn't last beyond a few days or so). Isn't complaining and ranting about it adding even MORE noise anyways?

Either way if you are not interested, there's nothing stopping you from scrolling on past...

I'll admit that RPing is not something I really get so I need to ask:
Does any of this really matter in the grand scheme? I mean if this pirate guy can no more destroy the data and the site than can one destroy any other planetary base then how does this even make sense from a RP standpoint?

Ransom only works when you have something of value. In this case all he really has is a location which, while a pain in the to find, its not impossible to re-find. We know the system, we know the planet, and we can see that its in a mountainous region. If I were RPing I'd tell Goliat to go ahead and kill him now because he's got nothing we can't get on our own and they more than likely they are in this together. The ransom is also curious. A ransom demand needs to be something with a lot of value that's relatively quick for the payer to attain. Time isn't on the side of the hijacker its on the side of the people moving against him. Any decent pirate would know this. So 3 days to mine 50t of the most rare item in ED? C'mon man. He has no intention of releasing the info or his partner with a demand like that.

In all seriousness, am I missing something?

it doesn't give players a unique opportunity, it gives them an opportunity to avoid hostility in open space from pilots with a conscience and not scripts. (but lets save that discussion for a more proper place) sure it allows them to impact the story regardless, but it doesn't allow opposition.

thank you for understanding my point about using a ransom with a mechanic thats entirely seed generated(aka random) is asking for failure.

I always find anyone talking about RP or not RP in games odd.

If you are playing in a game, you are, to a degree RPing. You are pretending to be someone else in another place and another time doing something. You don't have to make up dialogue, or speak like a crap Shakespearian actor or add anything outside of going through the motions of playing the game. You are still RPing.

It makes my laugh when people go out of there way to say they are not. Like they are worried someone is going to point at them in the street and laugh or something. I'm not an RPer / I'm not RPing i'm just* No. You are. But your won't shrink or drop of because of it.

Ooohhh... Nice. I've done a few Meridian set up's in my time. Absolute PITA to set up, but wow, such a clean sound. Would be very good for the fine details that most consumer stuff (and a lot of allegedly "high end gear") misses.

Totally agree re tools..

Z...

Beyond a pain to set up. Arcane, in fact.

Well reading between the lines with that, if I don't misunderstand....

Good luck !

Hopefully CMDR Baton makes it out but obviously the settlement logs are the priority! [haha]

OPN COM REQ - Conflux Hostage - Children of Raxxla DARK is GO with Icewatch - RSP CHARLIE

So - come again about not being able to make an opposition in the storyline with RP...?

Also, especially in Elite: Dangerous, there are COUNTLESS examples, that it is indeed possible to change the way, a story was intended. CoR are the best example for that - unfortunately they are now labeled terrorists.

Obviously the most important thing is to get the settlement-logs out to the public. More evidence that might exonerate Salomé. This CMDR Goliath is willingly withholding it from the public for selfish reasons. So we are obliged to do something...

If you have not engineered for L5 FSD upgrades, I'd go back to the bubble. It'll make future trips much easier. I can nor. ally do a run from the bubble to H&S in 3 hours in my AspX (50Ly).

Z...

I have a 50LY Asp. But I only have 1-2 hours per week of game time.

You are and i wholeheartedly support the CoR. Anything i can help with, i'm willing and standing by.

Two things need to be done:

1. locate the base as quickly at possible.
2. rescue CMDR Baton, who has found the Gap Delta-Base and thus helped a lot to solve this mystery.

If you have a good explo-ship head out to PRU AESCS NC-M D7-192 A3A and join us.
