Oops... just crashed 10KLY from Beagle Point

Glad to hear your drive to reach BP hasn't been dampened! You should jump past my current position in about 30,000 light years!

You're still only 10k from BP? Did Chiggy fly out there and rescue you from being stuck only for you to decide you weren't leaving anyway? :p

By far the worst thing I've done since playing Elite is crash into a high gravity planet while trying to land. I'd been out exploring the California Nebula on my first big trip and had a heck of a lot of data for sale. Saw a fine vista and was desperate for a new background pic so tried to land. Realised at the last second I was coming in too hot.... Shields offline, BANG. Lost the lot.

I nearly quit the game, but put it down as a learning curve. Paid the insurance on my Asp and renamed her (The Sansa Stark) and am now 3KLY from Jacques.

I just had something similar happen to me. I was going into a look for a nice view on a planet near a crater and I had to walk away so I zeroed my throttle and leveled with the horizon but I must not have looked at the gravity and it may have been higher than I expected. So I come back and see the planet and no ship then the ship destroyed window.

Worse thing was is I left the bubble with the distant worlds expedition and had made it to beagle point and about 7k light years back towards Jacques. And since that had come up since I've been gone I was looking forward to selling all my data there and staying there for a while since I've been out for almost a year now(I know I'm a slow flyer). I really wish I could get my ship back some how but I doubt that frontier will give it back to me.

Good to see you're not too upset by the mishap cmdr...

I myself face-planted my sidey (the Grass Hopper) into a crater about 30,000LY from SOL...just hopped straight back in Grass Hopper II and headed back out. I eventually made it to BP with a lot of help from my friends.

I was quite upset, I really wanted to return with all the data. I don't know if I will do it again ever, but if I do I was just thinking I could make it there faster now with all the game developments like the engineers and I may try it if I ever get an anaconda engineered for jumping. Or start from the beginning again.

The ability to land on planets is one of the biggest dangers out there in the Cold Dark... :)

The furthest away from Sol I have died was just about 800LYs or so.. I was trying to mine in peace, and couldn't figure out why fleets of pirates kept finding me even this far out... At the time I hadn't realised the attraction Engineer commodities had on pirates... lost 800LY data, the commodities and some mined metals when I finally thought I had found a safe ring, only to be jumped by a Python and a Clipper....

I once bounced my unshielded DBE off an asteroid about 18kLYs from Sol.. but made it back with 23% hull remaining that time.. :)

As for botched High G landings, my "proudest" moment was when I left a Cobra Mk III shaped impact scar on some 2g world within the bubble that had promising levels of Vanadium... :)

This running countdown is just making me imagine "15.2KLY ... 11.9KLY ... Oh for %&^"! not again!" :D

I'm sure that won't happen.
