Right... I'm not entirely sure what to say anymore... I'm starting to feel like I might have done something out of line completely and that was never my intent

Don't stress it - not everyone is going to agree with you.

If you think you were out of line (I don't btw) a mod will certainly let you know - they're always chatting to me about my posts :O

At least you didn't add a poll :D

I do have a dark side, Dark.

Your a joke, you're by far the most aggressive person in this thread. But feel free to continue.

So lets recap, yes it would have been nice to have the hair option but you dont like the op's tone.
you dont like that i thought it was a bit lazy.

So i think we all got that now.

Now because i have nothing new to add i'll leave it at that. would'nt want to sound like a broken record.

Think about it. The helmet pops up automatically from your collar and covers your head when your canopy pops in a split second. How would this be animated with long hair? Add to this the fact that ED are clearly going for a realistic graphic style for the haracters and how difficult it is to realistically animate long hair. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why the long hair option was omitted. To say that frontier were lazy to make this design decision is just plain ignorant. What is your proposed solution to the helmet issue? And don't talk about women in space in real life or motorcycle helmets cause astronouts in real life don't get their helmet automatically put on in a split second and your hair can hang out of a motorcycle helmet which clearly cannot be the case in a space suit which needs to be air tight.
I can think up 2 solutions already:
1) The hair gets sucked up and into the helmet as it closes. You wouldn't need to code in complex physics of the hair actually taking up space inside the helmet. Just an animation of the hair being blown up and sucked in towards the head as the helmet closes.

2) The hair gets vacuum wrapped into a very thin pony tail-like tube that is attached to the helmet. It would look like a cable hanging from the back of the helmet. Much simpler animation of the hair being compressed into a thin line and 'zipped' up in the material of the suit.

Anyone arguing realism for Elite Dangerous needs to be thrown out the window. We all know that is a nonsense argument.

Its a game. Let there be long hair . These pics of astronauts? The hair doesnt float around like that, they ruffle it up for the pic and then it floats around. So more absurd arguments.

The helmet argument? Well there is select mode for helmet on, off, on only in emergency etc. So thats moot too. Besides im an independent commercial space pilot. Not in the military. I can have whatever the grok hair i want.

Just imagine if all bikers had only short hair?

And another thing. Its. A. Game.

I say. Long hair. For both sexes please. Im not a sexist pig.

Such an awesome character creator... and no long hair. Thats daft. Cmon FD. Stop being Hairist...

Dont stress there is good and bad in everything your opinion is valid as is the topic, this is why fdev gave us the ignore option. If you remove that one anomalous person from the thread even though many still disagree the whole thing reads a lot better. [wink]

Meh, I wouldn't get upset.....some people just have a hard time accepting the fact that others may not think the same way that they do. You've a right to your opinion as much as anyone else......

I agree with most of what you posted for what it's worth. They did a fantastic job with what they have shown but I don't think that asking FD to consider adding this down the line is too out of line. I also thought the lack of body customization was a bit odd.....no muscular physiques or overweight people. Apparently only slim and athletic people are allowed into the pilot's federation......so much for playing a fat pirate or one that looks like Johnny Depp or John Travolta from Battlefield Earth (yes now get that memory of that movie out of your head hahahaha) or a female one with longer hair for that matter.

Uuh i'm totally with you Momoka
As male with long hair (and i mean REALLY looooong hair) i know this problem very good. Where was it possible to give male characters long hair in games? :(
I wanna have my long hair, even if i have to abandon this helmet and emergency life support. I'd rather die than cutting my hair :D

You're right it can be done with some additional animations and handled with some extra space suit tech. I suspect that most space pilots however would take the practical route and just cut their hair instead of investing in said tech. It looks like FD didn't think this was a priority and I can see why.

I'm not against FD adding it. They certainly can, it's their game. It's pretty easy to understand why it was omitted though and I don't really see how it's a big deal considering all the options they are including.

I wouldn't like to die in the cold of space only because my helmet couldn't lock in properly thanks to my hair getting in the way ;)

I guess it wouldn't hurt to get longer hairstyles... But if you're really into Role playing, as many of us are, you surely want the game to be coherent right ?

After all this is a minor concern and if the community really want it, why not ?

But why would you be thanking the hair for getting in the way, you should be thanking the three people that wanted the hair to be there in the first place... :p

I find it amusing they are arguing the logic of short hair in a game environment that features non-natural hair colors, cybernetic eyes and faster-than-light travel.

I can't see the reason here. Might as well let it have the aesthetics and jump the logic so it looks cool.
