coming home

Unfortunately you can only get friendly with superpowers by selling data, but for permits you need to rank up - i.e. do stuff for them.

Plan about 15 mils of data for Farseer and Martuuk each, both provide very useful upgrades including lvl5 FSD!
Also, you may want to get friendly with Sirius Corp. controlled systems and with the blue (?) mafia to get a head start at other enginner - check out INARA. And don'"t be afraid of the engineers, getting them is fun and takes requires you to try most aspects of the game!

As for the rest, I left my exploration data at the Iridium Wing to honor their service of escorting in explorers. :)

gratz, 18 Months sounds impressive but you made only 21k systems in that time?

My Board computer tells me I visited almost 5k within 2W 4D. How much "approximate time played" does yours show in 18months?

I'll have to look at that when I get home.
However you must remember that I scan a lot.
I do play everyday but some days i can only put in a couple of hours.

The only time I've really made an effort to move fast was when I was meeting commander Miepit AKA Tom the Keelback. I flew 6700 ly's that day.

Edit to add : according to my spreadsheet I'm averaging 266 systems per week

Eh?

I got most of my permits by selling exploration data. Just have to check that the station where you sell is controlled by the minor faction you want to get allied with. ;)

Then there are of course those superpower rank -locked systems. You can use the exploration data to ally yourself with several affiliated minor factions, so they give you more & better missions which helps in gaining rep & rank with the superpower.

Good to know, thanks Optimal. Must spread rep around.

I'm thinking that's what Optimal meant. Powerplay stuff.
I'm looking at strictly permits. So yeah I'll be hitting those minor factions.

Thanks again!

Sell your data asap, and fly safe Commander!

"Coming Home"

When I stand before you shining in the early morning sun
When I feel the engines roar and I think of what we've done
Oh the bittersweet reflection as we kiss the earth goodbye
As the waves and echoes of the towns become the ghosts of time

Over borders that divide the earthbound tribes
No creed and no religion just a hundred winged souls
We will ride this thunderbird, silver shadows on the earth
A thousand leagues away, our land of birth

To Albion's land
Coming home when I see the runway lights
In the misty dawn the night is fading fast
Coming home, far away as their vapor trails align
Where I've been tonight, you know I will not stay

Curving on the edge of daylight til it slips into the void
Waited in the long night, dreaming til the sun is born again
Stretched the fingers of my hand, covered countries with my span
Just a lonely satellite, speck of dust and cosmic sand

Over borders that divide the earthbound tribes
Through the dark Atlantic; over mounting stormy waves
We will ride this thunderbird, silver shadows on the earth
A thousand leagues away, our land of birth

To Albion's land
Coming home when I see the runway lights
In the misty dawn the night is fading fast
Coming home, far away as their vapor trails align
Where I've been tonight, you know I will not stay

To Albion's land

That would only be an average of 10k per system.
Exploration payouts must have been badly nerfed for it to be that bad.

Does anyone have a list of current payouts?

According to my spreadsheet as of Jan 21st I've scanned 20,408 High metal content planets alone... Not to mention all of the rest of the body's I've scanned.
I have 112 ELW's and ~1200 Water Worlds and at least half of those are TC..
And I'm at 1457 Neutron stars & 260 Black holes..

Anyways it's not really about the credits (well kind of hehe)

I've done 6 months, 12k systems on DWE and got some 270 mil or so (or was it 240? I'm too lazy to check atm :D), if memory serves, and I don't exactly scan every rock - I always scan primaries, HMC's that seem to be in the habitable zone and are potentially TC's, all WW's and ELW's, gas giants only if they're close when I've jumped in or if I think they might be water / helium giants. I also grab anything that's in scanning range right after I've jumped in. But ice balls, rocky ice, hmc's and gg's way out in the system, I tend to skip. So, given your described scanning regime I'd be shocked if you got less than 500-600 mil - possibly more, it's really hard to estimate. It's still change compared to bubble money (can make like a billion in cz's doing massacre mission in like a week or so), but it will afford you a wide selection of ships for your next trip.

Sounds like my scanning regime to a tee Newman. I'll drive pretty far for a Water world especially if it's in a Goldilocks zone and I'll go any distance for an ELW.
but that's about it. I will grab rock body moons of metal planets though since they are generally in scan range anyways. Also if one hi-met is TC there's a good chance the next one over is too.
Gas giants only the close ones except class 2 which i will fly to if it's a reasonable distance.
I scan a lot but I'm not crazy with it.

Wow...18 months! I thought my expeditions are long :) But this is just amazing.
On money topic, i got exactly 210 million from my 6 months journey. So probably you will get a lot more. Good luck coming home safe :)

Thanks Pirin!
Much respect to you. I've seen you out there (discoveries)

It's not been a week but this thread and the responses have inspired me to move with a new purpose.
I'm pushing hard but flying safe. 80 systems between yesterday and tonight. {that's a lot for my style}
No ELW's though dammmit [down]

I'll not annoy you all with this, after all I have 3 months to go as of tomorrow.

I'll put up some screenies sunday.

Root for me!

Osser,

First of all, hat's off to you. I went to beagle point with distant worlds and it took me months to get the willpower to come home. In any case, here are a few of the lessons I can pass on.

1. Get a nice episode of something on netflix to watch while selling data. It will take you a while. I pretty much honk scoop jumped about 10,000 systems on that trip and it took a loooooooong time to sell it all and it sounds like I had a fraction of your haul.

2. Do not come back in solo. Come back in a private group with someone you trust who can escort you around while you sell data. Trust me, you want to make the most out of that benefit.

3. Use 10 million data to rank to 5 with farseer, martuk and any other engineer who accepts exploration data. Farseer accepts it right off the bat as does martuk, but others need a payment of some other commoddity first. Use your buddy to guard you while you haul and they can also haul some commodities along with you and double your unlock rate. Just go to inara.cz and look at the engineers data to see who needs what.

4. Use this time on your way back to roadmap your engineer path to completion. I've been back for several months but only just yesterday did I finish fully equipping my Trade-Cutter, PVE Corvette, and Exploraconda. This could have been sped up considerably if I'd watched youtube vids on engineering on the way back and started making a plan instead of just winging most of it. Side note, 58 LY jumps with a well equipped conda will alter your view of distance in the galaxy. I trip to sag-a is a weekend affair now.

5. Also, if you havent gotten duke and rear admiral yet, save some exploration data to get to allied with whatever the system de jour is for the rank grind there as well. It will still take you forever, but at least you can start with allied ranked missions.

In short, have a plan on how you're going to sell off all that data. if you sell most of it at one station your are wrong (its what I did and it slowed down my progression significantly.) And I don't know how hard core you are on role playing, but if your ship is in danger before you sell all that data, do what I did when I flew into a binary star....sqeal.....slap the off button on your computer as hard as you can, log back in and continue on with your return home.

Congrats again and let us know how we can help.

Thanks pilotbugs! let me reply:
1 & 3- My data selling is going to be an intense adventure. I plan on getting multiple permits and max faction with empire & fed. along with both engineers. This will take me ~ a week to do my way.
2 - I trust only myself. This has to be done alone. I play in a private PVE group so I'll be ok.
Once I'm docked I'll repair; buy and sell some stuff (not data) to get my super fast Cobra ready to go.
4 - A conda doesn't interest me. sure the jump range can be great but it's not the end all be all.. and I'm not wanting a slow turner type ship. I scan a lot and I need to be agile.
5 - I'll have plenty of data to spread around. the biggest part of my adventure will be navigating the bubble and selling for rankings.

Ahh yes the old brown under-pants moments... been there & done that many times. not a concern.

It's getting closer everyday.

I am currently 17300 LY's from this station.
I've encountered a vast field of Neutron stars. encrypted coordinates :
(BSER&(^&@^%&&)
There are also many varieties of White Dwarf Stars.
I must also report a great number of Carbon Stars in this area.
However a noticeable absence of Black Holes is mysterious. This will be something to study.
Due to the violent nature of these systems I've explored relatively few. Neutron & White Dwarf systems can be quite unpredictable and dangerous.
Image of a violent example is being sent.

Thank you for the estimates of paint repairs and other paint options. The costs seem very reasonable.
I am currently 10,918 LYs from planed landing.
Things are progressing nicely.
19386 systems logged.
Several amazing Carbon stars.
Overheated a bit on a close binary but escaped with minimal damage.
This ship has served us well. However it will need some repairs and serious upgrades to its systems.
To that point:
I've noted on my deep mapping certain systems I've been unable to reach.
Fascinating systems. For instance:
A Heribig primary star with a black hole secondary.
A beautiful nebula surrounding what appears to be a WR star.
We need to reach these. No debate or cost is in question.
We must upgrade this ships range ability. It was good when we started but times change.
So be prepared for my return. My data should easily finance this. But I want a detailed plan of action in place. you have 42 days to do this.
I'm willing to do what is needed to accomplish this.
