SDC Presents: Operation Healies4Feelies

I simply cannot fathom what would possess anyone to put the sort of time and effort required into do something like this. It serves no real purpose.

Couple things...

SDC engages in a lot of PvP and I assume they have encountered this heal beam thing and feel it compromises their gameplay

SDC believes that things don't get attention unless there is a lot of drama around it...probably right about that

I think that is enough motive to put this little demonstration together...really, it couldn't have taken that much effort.

as there is absolutely no legitimate reason to engage weapons fire within the confines of a station

Sure there is, what if the station involved is the home station of of a rival group that you're attacking and you wish to invade them on their home turf. Such things happen between PVP groups and it's all jolly fun.

Ok SDC you have made your point. Now please, PLEASE stop with the yodeling :p

Seriously though: yeah healing beams look pretty broken. I hope your protest works as well as it did the last time..

If anything, it illustrates a good reason for each station to be outfitted with such healing beams, and to lock them on to every ship as they enter, until they've landed, making this sort of behavior even more pointless than it already is. OR, force-deactivate ships' weapons systems once they enter the mail slot. Not a hard feat of programming, as there is absolutely no legitimate reason to engage weapons fire within the confines of a station.

Ha ha, that would be fun.
If anybody fires inside the station or even within the no-fire zone.
The ship computer takes over and initiates an automatic docking process. The station fires healing lasers to keep the ship alive. This happens for both - the attacker and the attacked.
The attacked ship docks safely. The attacker ship docks safely and the CMDR has to pay a very hefty fine.

It would be hilarious.

That's the first one of my forum bingo boxes crossed. Anyone care to declare 'This is why i fly in Mobius', so I can get a line?

"This is why I fly in Mobius". Happy now? Can we go on discussing the topic now? Thanks.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but this is being fixed in 2.3:

"A fix for both these issues - regeneration sequence healing effectiveness and station turret strength - is already planned for 2.3 and is scheduled to be introduced during the Beta. :)
CMDR Sticks"

https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDange...c_presents_operation_healies4feelies/de40vnm/

If it's present in the first version of the beta, I'll believe they actually planned it. If it isn't, it will definitely feel like damage control.

Well.... if anything there's something to be tested on the upcoming Beta, right?

PS.
I remember testing "going bad" during the last Beta and specifically tested Outpost Defenses as well.
Well what can I say - recently saw some Traffic making an Outpost angry (rare sight). And quickly realized the formerly-known-as-a-joke Outpost defenses apparently got something like a Factor 25 boost to their Weapons power :D

It's because this is one of a long list of broken mechanics introduced by 2.1 that have so diminished PvP in this game.

In this instance, skilled PvP groups like Smiling Dog Crew and Adle's Armada find themselves unable to damage chain-healing wings in real fights.

They're not fighting their rivals inside stations. They're showing, via the medium of being inside a station, how broken PvP in normal space is.

In other words, they're saying, "Look, if even the station can't kill two FdL's chain-healing, how are we supposed to kill four FdL's chain healing, let alone four Cutters?"

Good effort chaps. Condolences to those who died in the name of progress; Heroes one and all......return them to the sea of salt.

Cheers!

Its a very good point being raised, youre quite right. The idea using 'healies' you can out tank a station shows problems with balance, brought on by tacking concepts onto the original model without thinking how these new concepts will interact with each other.

And before everyone gets their pitchforks out yelling "this isn't the right way to do it, you should give FDev a chance to fix it first!", let me direct your attention to this thread started by me during the last beta on 12/12/16.

I'm not FDEV, but this has been brought to their attention and I happen to know that there will be various things done for

1) Interior station weaponry

2) Regeneration beam strength

This information comes from high authority.

I was going to keep schtum about it until it came to light in either the beta or when 2.3 goes live, but seeing as SDC are thinking they are important somehow by playing the forum/Reddit meta-game, then my hand has been forced :D

Another question I had was I noticed when you are outside the station, the station has massive multi cannons with some shield gen attack effect on them. Why wouldn't they implement this inside the station? That is probably going to be the solution to this.

See my post right above yours (you were probably typing your message when I was submitting mine).
