It is not a release. It is a beta!!!!

Sure. Beta've a laugh. Beta've an opportunity to get 'in the wild' feedback and bug reportage. Beta've a chance to get hands on with what's due in the update release. Beta've a surprise if it had rolled out on time if you ask me. Never mind, I shall continue swanning around Colonia figuring what's what. Boy what a drag. I have to continue enjoying myself. Sheesh.

Never seen a promise here. Whatever you are reading into it, it´s wrong. Last official information I heard was "We are aiming for Monday", which is in my view far away from being "a promise".

If Apple said in regard to their new iPhone "We are aiming for Monday", how many tens of thousands of people do you think would be lining up at their stores to buy it on Monday morning.

If you can't see a promise in that sentence then I sincerely hope that you never get into PR or have to manage anyone's expectations.

A double delay. Way to manage expectations Frontier.

How about just not saying anything rather than over promising and under delivering.

Because then people just whine that Frontier doesn't communicate enough.

They simply can't win. If they announce stuff and miss it, then whiners like you pour on the salt. If they do as you say, then other whiners pour on the salt about "not communicating with the community".

Give them a break, for heaven's sake!

Thanks for the update. Nothing to be sorry for. Had some fun reading the comments in the forum whilst F5ing. Thanks for trying and for your hard work (all at FD)
Hi everyone,

Despite our best efforts, unfortunately the 2.3 beta won't be available today. We're working hard to get it ready as soon as possible, and I'll let you know as soon as I have more information.

Sorry for any inconvenience... I'll keep you posted. You'll have new information as soon as we can get it to you (more info likely first thing tomorrow).

Thanks again for your continued patience.

Ed

Whoa.

Constantly developers are getting hammered for not communicating enough with users or not providing information for updates. This particular developer gives us estimates on when they want to do a release and then informs us when the date slips. And you want to on them for it.

"How about" just understanding that game/software development is mercurial. It is something with dozens of moving parts, and with multiple people working on each part simultaneously some unexpected behavior could be introduced that easily results in a delay.

Or maybe what was a small bug slated to be fixed for the patch seemed like an easy fix on the surface and by all estimates, but then ended up unraveling into something much larger as the engineer began tugging on the thread.

Communication is ALWAYS better than no communication. Even if their best estimate ends up being wrong for one of any number of reasons. If they were right, then we knew when the update would drop. If they were wrong then we knew what they were shooting for, know something is holding them up, and can be confident they will let us know when its straightened out.

Man, some people.

Blimey, some of you need to go get some other hobby or activity, something to while away the time instead of fretting over a beta (a beta no less!). I've been at work for the last 10+ hours and just sneakily just had a peek at this thread to see how FD are getting on.

I'm going home now, to eat and chill, I hope the guys at FD manage to do the same. It's just a beta, no one's going to die or get hurt, or lose a limb, or get fired if you need another day/week, it's, it's just a game!

If they don't do that, a million people will keep on asking "When is the beta date". Oh you are right, they would do that anyway, even if a date was announced. :)

Yes i'm god damn right, saying the facts about hype build up then it got destroyed twice.Easy solution for it don't make planned news until its ready.

Some people are disappointed because Frontier said that they "aimed" today, but i'm glad that they are communicating with us (by telling what they target). I did not take it as promise. They aimed today - sadly it is not ready, but i'm sure they are working really hard to get it ready. Fingers crossed for tomorrow (and if not tomorrow, then day after etc). Keep up good work :)

Perhaps people could respond to things like this with reasonableness and understanding, instead of throwing out rubbish about "broken promises" and then start slagging off the devs. Most of you "giving advice" on how fdev approach stuff haven't got the first clue what is going on behind the scenes, how stuff is done, checked and delivered. Not a single clue, but still bang on like a bunch of entitled 5 year olds throwing temper tantrums at people who are probably more disappointed than you at not being able to release the beta when they hoped, and that's another thing... how many of your lack the comprehension to understand that words like "we aim to" and "we hope to deliver" aren't stone set deadlines, and that sometimes things don't go according to plan.

Cut the devs and the community team a break! They tell you what their aims are, and then 9 times out of ten hit those targets dead on. Bemoan the fact the news was released late in the afternoon all you want but you understand that that means they were trying everything they could to get the beta up for today. Whatever has happened has prevented that, but use your brains. Have some understanding, some empathy, maybe take a moment and think about who has the most invested here. You? No, the team at FDev, those folks who keep on smiling and working hard EVEN THOUGH some of you still drop your snide comments, beratements or are just outright abusive.

Knock it off, grow up and if you've got nothing constructive to add, step away from the keyboard and anything else than infest these boards with your behaviour.

Ed, thanks for letting us know, thank the folks who have worked so hard today to try and get the beta out. Your hard work IS appreciated and your approach to informing us of how things are going is, and continues to be, great. Respect to you all.
