Newsletter #30 now out.

So are the paintjobs actual skins or small decals on the ship somewhere ?
Look way to detailed to be a decal surely ?

That was a great newsletter! So excited to just blast off in space and finding my own path. The idea of being out in space far away and that you can actually meet someone is just so awesome. Do a quick voice com to wish them safe travels and off we go! ED best game ever!

I really hope they are not entire ship decals. I like the militaristic uniformity of ships in ED and would hate to see a multicolored mishmash of different colored skin jobs. It would make the gameworld look cheap and tacky.

Yes to a small motif painted on the side of your ship, but please no to complete paint jobs unless there's an option to turn them off in preferences.

Just remember when you're out in the middle of no where that famous line... "In space, no one can hear you scream... except the guy blowing seven bells out of you!"

They are entire ship decals. And they are good looking. They look anything but cheap.

To be frank, ship painting was big topic in last spring - FD plans to have different colors for different fractions and utilities. People need to look up old newsletters to understand context of this.

Well I hope there is an option in preferences to turn skin jobs off so my client never renders them. I've seen older games have that option so it shouldn't be a big issue for FD to implement it.

Because people in ships that are different to each other is scary.
FWIW, there is no difference between whole ship decal and a tiny little decal somewhere on the ship.

Gimmie whole ship paint jobs. Lots of colour and variety FTW.

Hopefully they'll just put an option in to setups to enable/disable them?

I hope we can select our own colors, maybe a pattern and then the colors in it. After all, I am rather biased in favor of the color purple.

Errr no, its about preference

I prefer a more lived in gritty industrial gameworld, militaristic in nature. Some obviously prefer a multicolored psychedelic appearance. That's fine as long as its a preference that one can choose to have rendered or not.

I hope so :)

Have a closer look at the two eagles on the right in the 2nd row down. They have different engine designs to all the rest.

Good spot. Does the first one on the third row have different weapons or just different colour weapons? Presumably it reflects an installed engine module. Very cool if you could spot someone's configuration and that could influence your decisions.

How many NPCs will have custom paint jobs do you think?

Edit - BTW I've read people in the forum link the paint jobs up to the Beta. I don't read anywhere where it says this is for the Beta.

As ever, I favour choice! :p I would stick with showing all of FD's creations but if they ever allow user creations (I hope they don't, unless they charge a decent amount to vet and fix them) then I think I'd want to turn them off.

It's like hats and cloaks in WoW innit - you don't have to see other people's if you don't want to.

Most likely there will be both. After all, they plan to have paints and decals show wear and tear after a while. So there might be a ZeePee Hauler painted like a 60's Flower Power VW Van flying around, but the decal will be chipped off at the edges and burn marks around the thrusters.

LOL. If they ever allowed custom skins without an option to turn them off I'd be off into singleplayer forever the moment I saw my first bright pink Cobra :D
