Elite Dangerous New Zealand Community Thread

Welcome new commanders and a Happy New Year to everyone for 3301.

I think I am correct in saying we have 31 kiwi cmdrs on this thread to-date.

Christchurch Commander here.
If players are looking for others to play with, The 19th Battalion is recruiting. We're an Oceanic gaming community that is actively seeking fellow Australian and New Zealand commanders to join us in dominating space.

The 19th Battalion has been around for years, and actively play a variety of games, from DayZ and ARMA3, to Diablo and War Thunder. We have our own Team Speak, site, DayZ and ARMA servers.

The 19th Battalion has aligned itself with The Federation, but this is a very loose alignment. Members are still free to do whatever they want, pirate, work for other factions. Our focus is on profiteering, making money and having fun. It basically means we will try to align ourselves with The Federation with regards to the story. When events are planned (and they are coming), they will revolve around getting into events backing The Federation. For instance we may choose to spend a night in conflict zones siding with The Federation backed faction.

If your interested in joining our community, visit us at 19thbattalion . com (Sorry, had to add spaces for the spam filter) and submit an application, jump in our Team Speak and introduce yourself. From there we will get you into the group and you can start flying with us.

Anyone else here think it's a bit odd that we have a kiwi thread in the "International Discussions" section, which is described as being for non-English language discussions? :D

Anyone want to converse in Te Reo?? (If so, I won't be following, I'm afraid - don't know any Maori beyond bits of the national anthem!!!)

Since this is my first post here, I'll do a quick intro...I'm Mark, from Whitby in Wellington...originally played Elite in '84 on the Commodore 64, as well as on a mate's BBC Micro. Also had it on my Amiga and various PCs since. Also played all the sequels, and even got into Oolite for a while not so long ago...

Time zone friendly?

Hey guys, I am an Aussie (Sydney) but I tend to game late at night (AEST) which fits more into your prime time than hours. Hope to see you around. :)

Good to see a few more wellingtonians around.

This week I'll be dropping off the full hardback set of Fantastic Books Elite Fiction at the main wellington library as a donation for their collection.

Thats And Here The Wheel, Mostly Harmless, Reclamation, Lave Revolution and the Tales beyond the Frontier. Hopefully some of you get to enjoy the set :)

Welcome new Kiwi Kommanders.

Well done with the books Thargoid, will see about picking up a kindle copy or 2 or 3.

I was thinking about what I would have as a paint-job, if I could have anything, and thought something to celebrate being a NZer would be quite fun. Non kiwi players may not get it but I am okay with that. A kiwiana icon stamped on my hull perhaps, buzzy bee, tomato-shaped sauce bottle, jandal ... Possibly a new flag design, since that is going around the traps at the moment (again). Maybe some Maori symbolism, would have to tread carefully there, don't want to be insensitive. Anyone else with some ideas? :)

Hope to see EVERYONE out there.

Kia ora koutou!

Reporting in from Hamiltron, city of the future. Playing in a private group with a mate so I won't be seeing you out there, at least not for a while (until I get a decently equipped ship and learn how to survive PvP in it).

Played Elite on a friends BBC and then Frontier (which I still have a PC version) and FFE on Amiga. Played the X series for a bit, but this is the game I have been waiting on.

Hello fellow Kiwi Commanders!
I've been flying in Elite since Beta in October last year, but only today realised there is a NZ page.

I'm stationed at the Mt Eden outpost in the Auckland system. I first played Elite on my ZX Spectrum way back in 84 or 85, but I was then in my system of origin, being the Leiden outpost in the Netherlands system.

Couple of questions:

Are the Kiwis most active on here or on the Facebook group?

Does anyone here happen to have, or have access to, an Oculus Rift? I'm DYING to try it out! I'm looking at the TradeMe listing etc but no joy so far. I know there is a place renting them from Wellington but I know I want it for longer than just a week so so it's not worth it.

Fly safe, Commanders, and I'll see you in the black.

Just in case anyone has missed it
Angeli Imperial started as an OZ/NZ time zone group and we have a good core of Australians, and New Zealanders as well as Cmdrs from the US and Europe, so if you are in Imperial Space or want to be and are looking for a group, drop us a line.

And if there are any other groups that want to arrange some joint activity I am sure we would be keen there too.

Hey quick question for a friend who's looking to buy this game from New Zealand, How bad of a ping and lag is he looking at if gets this game. Figured I'd ask here since I know everyone else in the thread is from New Zealand. Any help would be appreciated.

Hope all our Christchurch and surrounds commanders are faring well after todays quake and battery of aftershocks

A message to all those commanders who experienced the big (7.8) shake on 14 Nov 2016, (upper S.I. & Wgtn districts).

I am sure others will echo my hope that you and those close to you are safe & well.

May you once again fly the black.
