Robogo, old school!

If you miss the old fail on scan missions maybe you might enjoy the criminal passenger missions as well.
Very similar in process and risk profile. They also pay quite well , just like the smuggler runs.

A Solid YES vote from me!

Smuggling runs were truly intense fun.

A return of well-designed smuggling runs (with meaningful silent running) would be most welcome.

Excellent, tense action all the way:

Constantly vigilant for 16 jumps;
Sometimes no time to scoop so being concerned about that stretch of brown dwarfs ahead;
Figuring out whether to hide, fight or run;
Duping pursuers into slamming into the sun;
Planning routes to dump highest-paying missions first at the risk of carrying illegal cargo longer
(or vice versa);
Being ready to high wake right away when disengaging at the station;
Counting the cops for a quick risk assessment;
Blasting away from the station once you have get docking permission, and lining up once well clear
(provided no curious cop had followed you out to 14km from the station);
Sneaking in while trying to decide whether to run silent, boost, glide or abort last-minute;
and ending the run with a good payout (and a VERY good chance of striking out, just to keep the butt
cheeks clenched).

Top-shelf thriller-grade entertainment.

Yeah, those long range fail-on-scan smuggling missions were top-banana.

I remember having about 6 at once (worth a few mil - which was a big deal then) when I miss-aligned my approach to the slot on the first station and was struggling to avoid the toast rack and line up again when I heard the dreaded "Scan Detected".

Cue me boosting through the mail-slot at point-blank range as I was sailing vertically past it yet again, then frantically trying to lose the speed before my asp belly-flopped against the far wall. Finally managed to touch down with about half my hull left.

Hope they make a come-back some day.

Said the really, really old and bitter man.... :D

But, yeah.
Those smuggler runs out of Robigo was fun.
Could be quite intense. [yesnod]

It's more a question of mentality than age, or at least that's how I meant it. Note though, I've been this bitter since my late teens.

Now, less of your cheek sonny! *clips Infidel Deity round the ear* :D

Those were great! I will never forget, dragging to the final military outpost, been beaten from intedictions with a few % hull left and no shields. Anaconda infront of the station turning on me... I boost inside and smash into some small ship.. Rebuy screen... Best game ever.
Felt like in Das Boot movie.

I know, there were players mastered in sllent running and that was to easy for them, but my opinion is that the reward was adequate to the the effort.

I too was thinking about the old Robigo runs just yesterday morning when the Illicit Cargo icon lit up after scooping some Ancient Artifacts in a USS.

Yes, Robigo was good times!

Dropping out of SC at a station, hoping to be lined up semi-accurately....
4 pips to engines and full throttle....
Request docking and blast thru the slot at insane speeds....
Then hit the DC and let it find your pad while breathing a sigh of relief for making another successful delivery.

Yep, good times were had back then!

I am soooo glad Belugia's didn't exist back then! ;)

We used to do them properly. Turn off life support before jumping into the system. Minimal modules. Disable FSD on arrival, shutdown engines, have only sensors running. Request docking, turn off ALL systems. Engage thrusters, heat sink, turn off thrusters.
Glide in, unheard and unseen.

Good times :D

For wonderful 1.5m cr

Yes, those missions were great. I really miss them myself. Han Solo gameplay par exellence. Did them in a Cobra III build for speed. The 450 boost version (this was before engineers). Running shieldless with chaffs and point defense. Going silent.

Good times indeed.

Yes I to miss those days when I had enough of trading I would jump in my asp head over to Robigo and do two or three runs any more than that I would know I would get scanned because of losing my concentration it can be very tiring but great fun.

The Robigo smuggling missions are still there..

what FDEV need to do is remove the black market from the Robigo Mines, this would stop the exploit, as it would be more profitable to actually do the missions than to just abandon them and sell the stolen cargo, on a different page in the same station.

Making 7m Cr from one delivery is a nice feeling.. (also sharpens up your high speed mailslot delivery skills :eek: )

They were great fun to do when you were learning how to do them, but after when you realised that you didn't need chaff, heat-sinks or silent running to avoid the scans, they were pretty straight-forward, and then became a bit boring. The trick with the military outposts was to get chased by a pirate before you dropped out there. He would drop out a few seconds later4 and start shooting you. As soon as a shot landed, all the feds came charging out to deal with him, leaving a clear path for you to land.

Having said all that, it was an interesting activity for a while. We need more such things in the game. We nearly had it with the dodgy passenger missions, but ignorance caused too many problems. they should have just labeled them "smuggle passenger" to avoid any misunderstanding.

I miss delivering shadows. It was, by far, the most dynamic activity in this game. They should have built on them, as they were a great start to a good mission system.

Unfortunately, fun was detected. It had to go.

Oh YESSSssssssssssssssssss!

Those were the days when Cmdrs where Cmdrs and sheep were scared! the good ole days. Insta interdictions, the discussion about which way was best to avoid the scan,....

then a few phlebs spoilt it, winge winge, and winge enough and FD will change it. Not only did i enjoy these mission they got me the Corvette in Fed Rank and the Cr to buy it fit it (And lose it a few times :( )

Oh FD bring them back Purleese FD?

Thanks OP for bring up the good time memories!

Sorry StiTch, I missed that!
Defer to StiTch ninja god, please follow the above link and take a look. It would appear we are definitely not the only ones!
Lets bump his thread.
Come on FD,lets have some more!

No apologies needed, the search function here is notoriously terrible...I was apologising for being "that one" to put a link to his own thread in somewhere, not that you'd nicked my idea ;)

But yeah, well on board. I never believed I would say this but taking smuggling out may as well have taken an entire playstyle out.
