Medals and ribbons for the Commanders in E.D and achievements.

Since we now have commander avatars I propose that we can be able to decorate these with special faction related uniforms and medals. Medals for participating in community goals, medals/ribbons/patches for doing some sort of faction missions. Special uniforms which we can buy on the store. Very much alike the skins for the ships. Ranks is showed as shoulder marks and epaulettes. Pirate helms, sidearms, tattoos and clothes in all kind of variants. And achivements which gives gold or special rewards from the different factions if you finish them. This will create a lot of goals and content to the game which players can enjoy.

Now we need rewards, special clothes, and trophies for playing the game? Will telepresence hugs be next? How about achieving the goal be enough for a change? You shouldn't need an award for participating in community goals. playing the game is your reward.

I feel like it would be best to save medals, patches, aiguillettes and similar for when the naval career system goes in. Patches would make sense for major community events as well.

Community goals and normal faction missions are just too common and (usually) devoid of lasting meaning to avoid devaluing them. In six months everybody would end up looking like a tinpot dictator.

That's an actual, valid suggestion. Different coloured space suits (analogous to paint jobs) should be coming soon, so medals/ribbons/patches would be analogous to ship kits.

I'm somewhat positive to the idea and would by some if they were available, but wouldn't fret if they weren't.

If the idea does get a green light though, expect a thousand "this stuff should be free!"* and "what a waste of time"* posts in these forums however.

* Edit: Looks like it's already started!

Medals for actual worthy effort done I don`t mind. But keep `em rare.

Achievements, bleh! Childish snowflake nonsense that`s not done our society`s children any good at all. Should be got rid of from all games.

I wish I could rep this more than once.

This is apparently turning in a dress up nightmare, no more game development , just uniforms and medals...

I think I will hand over my account to my 10 - 12 year old daughters.

Cheers Cmdr's

As you probably know, the Frontier store already sells real-world faction badges and Elite wings. Forget the avatar, I'm awarding myself real-world decoration when I've earned it! :D

This dates back to the original game, where it was only upon achieving the rank of Elite that you became eligible to obtain your real-world Elite wings. Those wings were consequently quite rare and are now collectors items (and obviously very expensive ...if you could find any source willing to sell!)

There is no-longer any enforced barrier to obtaining the current wings (so they're not rare), but having acquired them, I choose to use them according to established protocol :)

Man, that´s what I am talking about. And when you don´t wear the medals you can have the excess stuff in a medal box or container ready to display. Well, spaceships are never the same on computers when you see them in real life. Although i´m still a huge sci fi fan and Elite fan. I just fell totally for the build stuff in ARK and Conan, well not totally but it just pulls tings together when you can build a base anywhere you want. Just look at all the videos on You tube and streams on Twitch. People like to build stuff :) Then actually people would use all their cash for that extra base out into the void. Maybe they can get a medal for it to, building the first base on the other side of the galaxy. I´m just dreaming, it seems that´s what we most of all is doing down here along with creating an unique experience :)

I remember getting medals & ribbons for doing military missions in Elite II & Elite III....it was the little things that were so cool. With commander creator coming in, this seems even more worthwhile now.

Oh yeah, I am so gunning for those Long Service Medals ;).

^^this Achievements/Trophies are one of the worst thing to come to gaming in the past 30 years, especially for modern gamers as it stops them thinking for themselves and programs them to purely follow some pointless "checklist" the devs set out.

Ban them!

I`ve watched kids care more about Devs `fixing` vacuous achievements in a game rather than the actual broken parts of it - and Devs have wasted time doing it. that`s how addicted they`ve become to getting a little achievement for every little ridicuolus thing that isn`t important.

It wasn`t until I checked out schools (they have stupid childish achivements for people who should know better) then saw how they now react to anything that doesn`t go their way in life that I realised how achievements was just part of a greater problem. They can`t even function in a job when fresh from College without a pat on the head every 2 seconds.

Sorry to be so real about it, but it`s a problem that`s deeper than just games; but modern games and baby `achievements` are definitely a part of the social issues which younger people are suffering today.
