Petition: Save Arena (CQC)!

No thanks.

Abomination by itself - FD should have been devoting resources to ED.

How was CQC a waste? They were making smart uses of their resources by having it designed in parallel with the main game. All the structures and SLFs from it have ended up in the main game.

I respectfully disagree with OP.

Time, money and energy not spent on CQC can only benefit the main game.
In my opinion 'layers' like powerplay, engineers and CQC should be abandoned and core aspects of the main game should be expanded in their stead.

They're not going to abandon anything in the main game, but dropping CQC is possible as it was only built so they could get their foot in the door with Xbox (Microsoft wanted a unique feature to allow it on to the platform if I remember correctly).

I'd prefer FDev didn't spend any more resources on CQC, it's so unpopular. It would require many hundreds of man-hours to make it worthwhile for most players.

It should be a lesson to FDev not to go crazy with niche sub-games/ideas that were not in the DDF...

Guys, if you don't like CQC, just don't play it. You don't have to hate it. Other people may find this game mode even more fun than the main game :p

CQC is a thing that is separated from the main game. It has different game mechanics and different ways to balance them.
As I said, it's meant to be a proper skill based fast paced action PVP game. Thing that is really far away from what the main game is.

This is the biggest issue it's NOT separated from the main game because they chose to add the rank for it in the cockpit! remove that from the cockpit and I do not care what they do with it!

Signed!

Although, I didn't put my real name or address.

Too many people here want me murdered. :p

Damn it! Almost had you that time! :D
Not that I want any harm to come to you or anyone else! ;)

CQC? Bring it into the main game so when I am docked at a station waiting for the mission board to update I can have a game without having to log out and back in again - perfect place to do it plus with this new fangled holographic teleporter stuff it can now make sense as to how we suddenly find ourselves in a system far from where we actually are. This might actually get quite a lot of CMDR's playing it.

They should introduce NPCs/Bots after say 3 mins of waiting time. I'm not a fan but CQC does appeal to some and at times when I feel in a shoot them up mode it could be the go to game.

Keep it, add fighter cosmetics and massive cash prizes for CQC (league) winners ..
These players should be the sports stars of 3303, imo.

You state that the player-base in Arena has become scarce, due to the lack of features and the outdated matchmaking system.

It might also be the case that fewer people play Arena, because little about it aligns closely with the nature of ED being a persistent world in which you can change things. The player-base might be scarce in Arena because other than the initial "lets have a look at the new feature", if players want skill-based PvP, there are other games that provide more options.

For my money, I'm happier with development on the primary game, although if enough people are interested in Arena, I'm sure it will get some love.

Not much love for CQC here. It's genuinely good, well-made, well-thought out and fun. It taught me more about pips and staying cool in combat than, erm, combat.
I became a much better fighter after spending some time in CQC. I'm quite good at it.

But I haven't played it for months. If I have time to play CQC, I have time to play Elite.

I love Arena. I play it as often as I can. I stream it when possible.
I really want it to take off as an in game sport.

But I am afraid I can't agree with any of the suggestions in the OP.
I don't believe those options are the answer.

And that's the only reason why I didn't recomment CQC be nuked from orbit. ;)

Nope, drop it like a rock and take that rank out of the main game.

It was only put in as an attempt to placate all the complaining from some of the community about commander killing in the main game. The idea was to ring fence some of the PvP action....but guess what....many PvP Cmdrs dont want an equal fight so they stayed in game picking targets they know they can destroy without much effort.

FD should have put the effort into an effective crime, punishment and bounty system instead as many pointed out at the time, and still point out.

Hopefully the next item to be removed will be powerplay...the half hearted place holder to make the galaxy look alive in some way.

Completely false, it's more like 'Everyone has the same ship so your engineered PvP ship is wasted.' let alone the queue times.
