Frontier need to wake up and smell that they are shovelling.

Let's talk about the Sirius permit, you know, the one you need to unlock an engineer. I get to the Sirius faction at Davy Dock, and for three days, all I get are courier missions paying about 40K so it takes forever to reach cordial status. Today I get one mission to deliver some Algae, do the delivery, return to Davy Dock and there are no missions for Sirius Corp. Pop over to Cormack Station, no missions. So I head out to collect exploration data to sell to them, return one hour later, STILL NO MISSIONS.

I tell you, if Frontiers goal is to make players frustrated then they are doing a great job. If you set a goal, the player needs a way to reach that goal, without having to log between open and solo just to get missions.

Now if you will excuse me, I have a settlement to build in Fallout 4, heck I might even have some FUN.

Edit, frustration causes anger, hence the thread title should read WHAT they are shovelling.

how about a completely different approach to the "problem"? there are many ways you can increase REP with a minor faction, not only mission running. A fast method is with bounty hunting.

so check the galaxy map, look where sirius is leading faction (there are quite a few systems), check for RES and go! .... cash in a bit of sirius bounty, your REP raises quick and you get your access.

same with trade or exploration (sirius owned stations)

so basically this

Do something else for a while instead of ramming your forehead into something repeatedly, maybe?

I get your point, and I have been going back to my home system to do some Rez hunting, still don't think that should be a requirement though. Mission system seems well out of whack to me.

Yeah it's pretty ridiculous but you can turn in about 3-5 million worth of bounties and instantly get to allied from neutral

IMHO it is the consistency that is the problem - not seeking to irritate you but I breezed through the Sirius/ Qwent scenario almost accidentally with my day to day running....and I think that is part of the problem, just like those who seem to suffer mass interdictions where others (like myself) have (or used to have) almost none......

This for sure and what I noticed is that once I engaged these other avenues the bgs starts to reveal itself in ways I didn't see before hand. The genius of the bgs thing creeps up on you and one day it stands dead in front staring you in the eyes.

I also noticed that its these frustrating bottlenecking chokes that end up pseudo forcing one to glance sideways at these other avenues (once we stop raging that is) and that's when we take a quantum step fwd in more potent game actions and options

It's the same for a lot of stuff.

The Marco invite is another huge PITA. AND I DIDN'T EVEN WANT TO TALK TO HIM. I just wanted Palin. Then it's MATs hunting. I understand having to work for something, I have a Cutter and a Corvette ( I can grind with the best ). It's the not knowing that's the frustrating part. Are you missing something ? <check invites list again > Did you do it correctly ? <check forums> Is there a timer ? <Check forums again, plus google> Should you menu log and mode switch ? <How many times ? is 50 enough ?> Is this the right system ? <Forum Check again, plus Google, plus Reddit>. Before long you're half crazy and 3 days have passed. You'd like to take your G5-DD equipped FDL out for a spin.. but you can't. Before you log in, you're asking Is Today the Day ? Is there a system you could check ?

Remember all the havoc before we got the little 'bars' to show rank progression ? This is the same frustration.

Sometimes I think FDev is running a huge social experiment on masochism and we're the monkeys.

It's like the conversation I had with the wife a long while back. < Paraphrased over a few days >

Her : If you hate mining, why are you doing it ?
Me : The engineer won't talk to me until I do 500 tons, and then they want 10 tons of a mineral you can ONLY get from mining.
Her : OK. Then she talks to you. What will she give you ?
Me : The engineer ? Nothing. I don't want anything from her.
Her : So why are you doing it again ?
Me: So I can up my rep with her, so she'll give me the name of the other engineer..
Her : And that one will give you what you want ?
Me : Well, if I have the right stuff. This new ship doesn't have the firepower I..
Her : The one you just bought ? The super ultra ship you worked weeks for ? That one ?
Me : Yeah, I just need a bunch of work done.
Her : So your new ship is broken ?
Me : Well, no. But it doesn't work as well as it could.
Her : The new one ?
Me : Yes.
Her : So, you're doing something you don't like, to talk to someone you don't want to, to fix a ship you just bought.. so it works.
Me : Uumm. YES. that is correct.
Her : And then it will work ?
Me : Well, if I get good rolls..
Her : Rolls ?
Me : Yea, it's random, so I might have to roll a lot to get good stats.
Her : And how much does that cost ?
Me : It's free, if I have the right materials..
Her : And how much do those cost ?
Me : Nothing, but you have to find them, and some are pretty rare. So you have to do missions to get most of them, or you can mine and prospect..
Her : Which you hate..
Me : Well..
Her : And this will make you happy ?
Me : It should. unless they NERF it like they did my last one..
Her : Nerf ?
Me : Yeah, they decide something is too good, and change the game so it isn't..
Her : So this might not even work ?
Me : It will.. or should. At least for a while. Probably.
Her : Why do you play this game again ?

1. Find a station where the Sirius Corp. is the controlling faction...

2. Any profitable activity, such as selling exploration data, mining and selling it at that station and trading AT A PROFIT that you have at those stations that is not mission related will increase your reputation faster than just doing missions alone.

I use these types of activities when the mission boards are empty... Which happens a lot. It also helps moderate any grind that you are doing by adding activities that you enjoy instead of endless data missions and the like.

BTW... I'm adding this one to my desktop... I the last 2 weeks I posted versions of it at least 3 times... Does anybody actually search for information before ranting on the forums? No... Didn't think so.

+1rep to your wife :D

Missions can be unreliable sometimes. As others have suggested, try bounty hunting in a system controlled by Sirius Corp, or go on an exploration trip and sell the data at a station controlled by them. You can also try trading with stations they control.

I agree that mission generation could be made a bit more accommodating in certain situations.

In ED, if you fixate on doing one thing, like getting a permit or finding a certain material, the game very often tends to say "Nope, not happening!"
And then when you don't want the permit or don't need the mats you get them.

A little bit more clarity would help a lot.

That would require at least some thought being directed at the problem; much easier to start a new pity party in the forums, that seems to be the trend around here lately.

Agreed.

Set a goal to "engineer" something. Better hope RNG favors you.

Set a goal to make Duke: can't get missions, even in Allied systems, because...RNG.

Honestly, it's a great flight model in a crap game.

This sums up why I have all but given up. NMS is the better game for exploration by far now. If they ever get a good flight model with HOT AS and Trackir support, good riddance forever Elite: Grindous

Is that you Veruca Salt??

Sirius Corp at Sothis and Ceos are handing out a ridiculous amount of courier missions right now. They couldn't possibly pump them out any faster. FWIW
