Decisions decisions, advice needed.

Hi all,I find myself with a little bit of quandary. I have a hangar full of ships, all of which are specific to purpose. FDL for surgical killing at speed, Warvette for brassing up large quantities of things while making some onionhead infused popcorn, Anaconda for general armed transporting of "things" and an AspX for honking stuff. The issue comes in that I also have a Python and a Clipper. One of which I will turn into a miner and the other a pirate ship. SO my question is this:Which one is best for each role?TIA

Both ships could do either role if fitted for them, but I'd say Python for mining (can sell to outposts) and Clipper for piracy (speeed)

Honestly i think the clipper is better for both. But given the choice, Python for mining, Clipper for pirating.

Clipper is faster, more agile, and mass locks people harder hence the pirate choice.

I also suggest you use the Python for mining, as it has better internals for the refinery and such. The clipper is faster and it holds a lot of cargo for that speed, but it can also pack quite the punch

I mined the 500t / 10t of painite in my retrofitted Python - quite relaxing really (apart from the occasional enthusiast who wanted some of my refined commodities).

Being an avid hater of the Clipper, and a Python worshipper, my opinion is slightly biased. :D

Sell the evil iPhone Clipper, buy a second Python. :D
One for mining, one for piracy.

Why? Because it's better? No.
Because the Clipper is a crosseyed, poor shielded, drifting monstrosity, with a crap jump range. Lol

But!
That said, i use my Anaconda as a miner.
Or used too, until i found a way to make it fun to fly. (Dirty drives 5!)
Now it's my murder-death-kill machine. That can also carry 250t of cargo.
And an SRV.
And a fighter.
And a fuel scoop.

:D

I had the Python set up for mining previously and it was great in that role, plus it could defend itself if needing to. Then I bought the Clipper for "reasons" and noticed it was great for speed and such. I had already set up the Python for a go at pirating NPCs and was enjoying it, but even with G3 Dirty drives the Python can get left behind by quite a lot of my intended targets, plus it has better internal for lobbing out collectors etc. I love both ships, so I won't be getting rid of one of them, but I think you guys have answered my question the way I thought it would be, Clipper for Piracy, Python for mining. Thanks all, much appreciated. :)

I see your point, and I like it! Your Kung fu is strong! However, I do like the Clipper (never thought I would to be fair, just got it because........well I had the cash and folk raved about it), so I won't get rid of it. Python was my original "Must have one" ship when I first started this journey 2 years ago and it has never, and will never leave my hangar!

I TOTALLY disagree!! Python is meta monotonous, less fun to fly and "everyone has it".

Clipper is something dif, pretty, fast, agile, and you can get 25ly fully laden with her when engineered.

And i'd argue for the extra 30mil+ just to buy the ship, let alone equipment cost, you don't get 30mil of extra ship.

All very valid points! I like both ships, they both have their upsides and downsides for sure.

Yeah if we being honest your question already indicates you have them both so :p.

TBH given that you have both ships and you want to use 1 for each role i think the vast majority are going to say mining python, pirate clipper :).

The answer is:Whichever allows you to perform said task successfully. It's never the ship, it's always the pilot.
Agreed, and I think that is largely the opinion on here so far. I like the hit and run ability of the Clipper, which speaks to the pirate role for me and as the Python, she carries about the same cargo as the Clipper when set up for mining, but can chuck our more collectors.

Today, I have a Clipper outfitted for mining--I especially like its gun positions for the mining lasers (on the nose). Pad size can be worked around as long as you have a capable shuttlecraft available to take harvested material to their final destination.

I've toyed with making my Python a miner, but it rocks at doing delivery missions thanks to its capable payload, pad size requirements, and heck, you can mount three plasmas on the front of it just for fun. But, if missions aren't your thing, definitely try the Python as a miner. Methinks I'm just gonna have to buy another one.

Clipper dosent have a hardpoint on the nose :S

And how do you transfer over a cargo load of minerals to another ship?

Python is always my choice for piracy (PvP & PvE) as it has more firepower, better shields and better internals than a Clipper. It can also be engineered to be pretty fast if needed. Mine does 440 m/s boost. It can also mass-lock a T9 where as the Clipper cannot.

Clipper is good for running away from things.

Second time i have answered this type of question today, piracy maybe be abundant this weekend ...YESSSsssss!

Clipper does me proud as my Pirate ship. Nowt much can out run it, has all the insides to have what a Pirate needs, and hits what it needs to hit to either get the cargo or kill t'other ship.........And if all hell breaks loose has the feet of a classy roadrunner to escape wylie coyote ;)

(you forgot the signature exit of any pro clipper post so i'll add it for you :))

And looks good doing it!

iClipper as pirate. It shouldn't even be a question.

Speed is of the essence to a good pirate. This thing is basically the quintessential pirate ship.

On the other hand, python = better miner, and not particularly because of the slightly better capacity - instead it gains substantial advantage through the C7 distributor and the convenience of medium landing pads.
