I`d be prasing this gam,e a LOT more if it wasn`t for the nickel and diming, especially the paid Beta.

I'm consistently one one of the biggest complainers about this, lol. Shockingly, they haven't changed their business model. Just don't play beta, buy paint jobs, and don't bother to name your ships.

Seriously, I REALLY like this game. I like how it plays, I like it`s more mature ethos. I love seeing new and interesting planets, phenomenons, landing on planets. I like the varied jobs, the ships, how it all works. I think the whole space station stuff is excellent; the smooth rolling of the station as you request docking, Interdiction mechanic, the sounds, etc, etc, etc...

Just seriously be less so-obviously greedy with the penny pinching (especially the paid Beta for those of us who actually bought the whole thing) and the sslightly sour taste in my mouth would turn to sweet icecream.

You have already given them too much money, cut your loses and just quit today.

Don't really see the big deal myself.

Look at it this way: If you're not buying all the tat, the people who are buying it are probably subsidising you by generating revenue for Frontier.

I'd much rather FDev earned a few bob by selling cosmetic tat which doesn't give anybody an advantage rather than, say, selling engineered weapons and components instead.

Pay-to-look-nice is far more ethical than pay-to-win. [up]

If you dont buy a nameplate in the store when 2.3 hits no-one will be able to see your shipname. So one of the features of 2.3 is entirely dependent on your buying something in the store, if they go ahead as planned. Something to consider...

So my jump range, dps or cargo capacity is governed by the ability of other CMDRs to see the words "Millenium Falcon" stuck on the side of my ship?

Same goes for piercings/tattoos/strange lumps that they will sell for Holo-me customisation, how does that make my ship better?

I mentioned in another beta thread that the name plate IS a pay to win asset: As it adds protection to the hull, doesn't it?

Yeah the one that's cosmetic.

This subject again.

So it would be fine too if they locked the character creator behind an additional paywall too, right? Its just 'cosmetic'! Hey, why not lock anything above 640x480 resolution behind a paywall too, just cosmetic! You want to see the different station intereriors? Sure, if you buy the new HUD Enhancement Modifier for only $4,99! Who cares, its just cosmetic! Lasers looking differently from multi-cannons? Thats cosmetic, pay-up folks!

The whole 'cosmetic goes to store' is based on a poll which was about whether it was okay to have some paints in the store and whether they should allow P2W. Shipnaming was never supposed to be behind additional paywalls. Seriously dudes, don't try to out White-Knight me, you dont want to go there. :p

It is locked behind a paywall called Horizons, you have already paid for it, either by buying Horizons DLC or buying the lifetime pass thingy.

Exactly. Same goes for other new features, like ship naming which was generally assumed to be in Season 1. No problem, I'll pay another fifty bucks. But I'd rather not have to spend money to get a new feature I spend $50 on on top of the original $50 I gave them. I've got a truckload of ship kits, paintjobs, lasers and even bobbleheads for crap's sake. But if FD keeps this nonsense up that's gonna stop. I dont mind paying absurd amounts for poorly designed paintjobs that dont even match the mesh correctly, but you have to draw a line somehere...

Its ship naming, not spacelegs. :p

Oh, if you want glasses, tattoos, outfits etc: hello frontierstore. Your $50 wasnt enough. :)

So, FDev decides to add a cosmetic feature as part of an update and you're complaining because you think that means other cosmetic updates should be free as well?

Would you rather they'd stuck rigidly to their "official policy" and released 2.3 without Holo-Me and then put that in the store along with the ship-kits and paint-jobs?

"You're bundling one thing in with an update so I want other things bundled in with it too!!!"

All I am saying is that so far I have spend enough money on low-quality cosmetics to buy three AAA games. I didnt do that because the price/quality was so great, I did it to support FD. If they go ahead with locking ship-naming behind paywalls I might stop that. Its not about money, I'm not Bill Gates but I can easily throw them some cash and not notice it. But I dont like how they paywall basic functionality like ship naming. If they give the HUD naming for free (so everyone can see each others shipname) I'd have no problem throwing them some money for some random vanity-plate.

But if they seriously want to lock poor people, kids and those from not-so-prosperous regions out of the ship naming because of a couple thousands in extra income, they can go suck a lemon. And I've heared I am not the only one thinks that. To each his own ofcourse, so do as you wish.

BTW: avatar creator was a promised headline feature for Season 2. We all paid for it, legally speaking. They never, ever mentioned that part of it would be behind a paywall until after beta hit. Its as absurd as promising you can land on non-atmo planets in S2, but Icy Worlds cost extra "because 200 dudes barely voted in favor of cosmetics years ago".

Your arguments are based on incorrect statements and selfishness - ship names are visible without the cosmetic of having a decal on your ship. Horizons players get Holo-me. You are whinging about the need to have all cosmetic customisation within holo-me for free.

If you are quoting me, I made a mistake; sorry about that.

Setting aside the fact that they're not paywalling ship-naming, just like they're not paywalling character-creation, all you're doing is saying "Some stuff comes with the updates I paid for but I want even more" except that you're using many, many more words to say it.

The thing is, the one place most players won't see your ship name is on the side of your ship. Most of the time, your ship will be a few dozens of pixels on screen, flying past in a blur. Your ship name will be visible in the UI, where it's actually readable.

I don't understand why people are so upset about this. I've been playing for 2 years and never even considered naming my ship, until this beta. I've had plenty of occasions to use it: There's a spot in most expeditions for your ship name, but I've just left it blank.

I've named my Asp, but not my other 2 ships and I probably won't buy a nameplate, at least at first. I will probably buy one at some point, not because I actually care about it, but to support FD. After all, I bought purple lasers, even though my two main ships don't usually have weapons outfitted. (It just reduces my jump range and I'm not into combat.)

Guys, thats not true. Without ship plate, your ship name will NOT be visible in any way at all to anyone else. Its NOT just a cosmetic texture. The entire shipnaming function will NOT work without ship plates from the store. Its in the patch notes. I am in beta. I can name my ship. Noone can see it until shipplates are made available in the store.

Personally, I don't care whether anyone else can see my ship name. I'm not naming it for THEM, I'm naming it for ME.
