ED Launcher Loading times

Which is:

Sorry to resurrect this and it probably won't help the OP but...

I started suffering from unexplained "unresponsiveness" from the EDLaunch.exe process, nothing I tried cleared it up, (running with no AV etc) so I raised a ticket and got this response....

"................ I did notice that your launcher is the previous build and not the most up-to-date version. It is my understanding that we've had to turn off version checking in the previous build of the launcher for some reason, and as a result, the launcher does not notify players about the new version. I do apologise for the inconvenience caused by this! Could you please download and install the latest version from the Elite Dangerous website, once installed, the version should read 0.4.5912.0 at the bottom of the launcher."

So far, the newly installed "latest" launcher is working faultlessly {touch wood} ....

My point is:

Why have they turned off version checking?

Why does this mess up the loading and unloading (launcher hanging-up) process?

Has this been announced anywhere? If not (I have not found it) - why not?

miffed and pleased - oh, no emojie for that ...

(They can't all have both of us ignored at the same time, right? :D)

In the last week the launcher seems to be taking a much longer time to load than usual. Took nearly five minutes last night.

Hmmm... I have been having the same issue, and bug reported it here. Seems to have dropped off their radar.

My launcher is the version mentioned in MalcYorks post, so not that. Could be network related, but I think it may also be something to do with how it relates to Windows 10. The DXDiag that I submitted to QA showed a number of windows error reports regarding the launcher.

I'm using the current launcher, but I run it independently (even though I originally bought the game through Steam).

For reference: It takes about 8 seconds to fully load; the white box phase only lasts about 1 sec. I have a good internet connection, a decent CPU (not great), 16 GB ram, and an SSD.

The launcher (and beta) doesn't work for me with IPv6 enabled on my router, I have to dissable IPv6 support on the router to launch faster (same as pre-beta)

I have IPv6 with my ISP, so it's something on the routing to the server... or the server causing the long response times.

Elite doesn't support the IPv6. Maybe it's protocols battling each other on the way. :)

Elite on IPV6 works just fine for me

OK well, belay my last ye varlets. The stupid EDLaunch.exe being occasionally unresponsive is back again so the new launcher didn't sort it as we (ok, I) thought.

Hey guys, we have now seen other reports of the issue persisting with launcher version 0.4.5912.0. I should add that version 0.4.5912.0 has not been made a mandatory update and we expect 0.4.5499.0 to also work as normal.

We are trying to establish if the issue is occurring server-side or locally. The most logical cause of the issue is some kind of communication lag between the launcher and the server. Almost everything the launcher does at start is network dependent (logging user in, checking product availability, fetching up-to-date product list, loading web data for the UI, GalNet news etc). Based on the client logs I have seen so far these actions complete without errors, but everything seems to take a lot longer than usual. We have not been able to identify a root cause server-side, and we have not seen enough client-side information to draw conclusions. Could you please help us by performing some basic troubleshooting on your end:

1. Restart your router
2. Check if disabling your antivirus software affects the issue

It may also help to know what kind of antivirus software you are using, if you're happy to post it here, please let us know.

Well i just checked my AV, and it randomly consumes 25+% of my 8GB of ram. So that's that subscription canceled. Lol

It was Bit Defender btw, which i no longer recommend, due to the amount of hoops you need to jump through to cancel the subscription.

It could be the cause of my issues. Once it's expired, I'll remove it, and see how things go for a while before searching for a new AV.

Takes ages for me too.

Just a splash screen to confirm it heard me start it would be enough for me - I often sit wondering if I should open it again (which leads to a one client at a time error).

I am on rural BT 'broadband' so the problem will be that bottleneck.

Just to repeat myself -

Router restarted, no difference, factory reset, no difference (giganet wired network to 60Mb broadband).

AV enabled, disabled, uninstalled, alternate AV installed and enabled / disabled - no difference (AV's used Bitdefender, McAfee, Avast - one at a time obviously)

Symptoms persist - usually first attempt sees EDLunch.exe appear immediately in the TaskManager Processes list but then delay of between 1 and 2.5 mins before the window appears (and launcher appears in Applications list) - occasionally launcher appears with login / register options instead of the play options (once appeared with "install E D" but play Beta in the list).

Subsequent attempts to load E D result in occasional instant (well, very quick) appearance of launcher window and occasional delayed sequence as above.

Adopted solution - start E D launcher - go make a coffee ;)

I made a thread on this , but its buried in the usual garbage.
5 days ago I started having problems on login, and once in game with huge lag on shift or cut scenes. Oddly enough Beta was as smooth as ever. Evntually contacted FD with a ticket , the returned yesterday (Kudos FD, saturday!!) and encouraged to submit netlogs from both Beta and ordinary game + use Netalyzr to get netstats. Detailed instruction included in mail. Submitting those this evening.

I'm personally baffled as I had done nothing to my computer or intra net or router, I fail to understand that Beta works fine but ordinary game is a pain, even loging in can take 30 minuttes before Contact server accept you.
Hopes this may help others, and again FD Support: Bravo :)

Cheers Cmdr's
