What a bad night !

Spend a few hours this evening in the Hauler topping up my trading credits to 131K, was doing my last run with 16 pro cells which would've meant a nice enough balance of nearly 150K and was got to upgrade to the Cobra.

Leave the station ... greifer appears, I can't shake him, I'm dead, 96K worth of cells down the swanny all because there's no protection / policing around the station yet.

Then to top it all in my depression and anger hit the wrong button, when going to use buy back insurance ...

Since there's no police protection around the stations i really wish they had at least put something in place to protect your credits when this sort of thing happens ... I'm trying to upgrade to each ship to test them but this is just frustrating!

rant over !

It's happened to all of us :)

Don't worry about losing any "progress" - everything will be wiped out soon enough.

Just enjoy the testing experience as it goes.

Lesson to learn from this.. don't put all your eggs in one basket - keep a reserve ;) Its probably worth us all considering that when we are getting ready for the game proper.

I know mate :) I think it stung so much because it was my last run and I was going to be able to fly the Cobra and slap some weapons on it ... I was then going to leave the trading for awhile and give fighting a good test instead.

ah well ... I hope the griefer comes out off a hyper-jump into the middle of a burning hot sun, right after he's just upgraded his smelly pirate ship !!!!! :D

Look on the bright side - at least you are getting the chance to practice flying, some of us have got to wait another 3 weeks or so of watching clips of others flying. Take a deep breath and relax, put your feet up and have fun tomorrow instead.

Out of the ships you have flown, which is your favourite and what weapon would you recommend ?

BTw.. if you PM me and ask nicely and agree not to broadcast my Cmdr name, I can try to meet you in game and drop you some gold to get you on your way again - always good to make new friends ;) I'll do this on the proviso we dont use the G word anymore :D

Worse luck mate, hopefully the next beta will sort out the station griefers. There definitely needs to be a confirmation when selecting not to pay your insurance, done it once and it is the only time I have been happy to see ED crash. :D

Truly I feel your pain same happened to me only I was foolish enough to load up another cargo hold and let him do it to me again, hopefully the police will push these dock campers away and force them to learn how to be real pirates :)

Got any fish? Apparently there's been quite a lot found floating in deep space.

I feel your pain, man. I've just had one of those nights myself. Anaconda at Freeport, then two cobras in resource extraction, followed by no fewer than four sideys at once when I decided to see what the fed distress beacon was like these days.

Should have run from all of them, and I'm sure I will in the final release. So at least I can console myself with the knowledge that it's totally my own fault.

Tagged a couple of them though. So probably worth it.

Always remember, wipe coming for beta 1. No need to get too attached to stuff.

Aw man, test or no test that sucks ball OP.

Hopefully grouping and friends list (in addition to revamped security) can help with that. I recently paired up with a friend ( trial and error until we got into the same sever) where he flew his Hauler and I flew my Eagle. We went together to an extraction site and he collected lose canisters while I escorted him and popped the occasional "wanted" around.

It was great fun.

there a few area that has floating Canisters that might help you. Just don't pick up the toxic canisters.

OP - For the future (although probably not for long!):

After you die, if you shut down the client (using task manager) before choosing either of the insurance options. Then when you re-start you will be in the same instance that you died in, only you won't be dead and you will have all your cargo!

I'm sure this will be fixed in the final release (and I hope it is). But until then, I know how grindy the beta can be so I hope this helps you out. If it doesn't offend your sense of honor (I have none :) )

Thanks for all the posts guys, the night got infinitely better thanks to Cosmos, cheers buddy it was a pleasure chatting with you and your generous container drops helped a guy in need.

You know, in reflection I'm actually really glad it happened now, because thru that little station incident the guy that got the better of me got his reward for some superior fighting skills and I got to meet a new space buddy ... win win :D

In fact now that I think about it, if this new Elite Universe is to survive and expand it needs all the elements of space exploration ... trading, exploring, fighting, even stealing when necessary, it's all part of the 'elite experience' and I now realise more than ever that Elite Dangerous has the potential to be absolutely awesome as long as all elements are met.

What a great night it turned out to be .... I wasn't thinking that a few hours ago haha!

Happy to help - was an interesting experience for me too dropping off stuff, like a bombing run, in between taking out my attackers. Indeed, I hope we'll see some great stories and experiences of close calls and new friendships made in the heat of battle of those in need when comms and grouping come in.

For that to mean something we need to be put in harms way. ;)
