News Ship naming – transmission intercepted.

Well, very disappointed by what FDev said about name plates on the stream.

Not even being able to see player's ships in a scan is mean-spirited.

It's not mean spirited it's part of the funding model, which is pure facts of life, seriously.

We don't know how much yet for another thing but it's plainly a cosmetic, as well as being one that's actually probably more interesting, than your paintjob (many of which are given away for nothing) to transmit your name across wide distances in the game.

Enter some competitions? Chances are good I'd say that nameplates will get a similar treatment to paints and decals in prize packs.

No it's mean spirited and penny pinching.

Paywalling a feature off on a paid for game? Sod Frontier if that's their new model.

Not an g free to play game is it.

I'm going to reserve judgement on this until we see exactly what form it's going to take - i.e. whether a £5 nameplate can be used across all ships, or whether it is ship-specific and if you have multiple ships you have to buy multiple nameplates.

I'm certainly glad to see that all the NPCs have bought these cosmetics so I can see their ship names on my scans. Very generous of them.

Name plates for on hull visibility is one thing, but having zero ability with a scanner IS kinda mean. Many of us have been asking and waiting about ship names since gamma. It has been asked about for every release, beta and otherwise. This really should be a basic part of the game.

Yes because everyone wanted ship naming so they could have it hidden from everyone else.

Well, it's my opinion only but I think it's more interesting to have a mix of named/anonymous ships anyway, but for another because there's more personal investment in the name (plate), there should be fewer ships called the SS QRTY$£!LULZ ?? Have to see how it pans out sure.

Right, and the best way to go about that is to force people to pay? Listen to yourself for a minute man, and realize what you're defending. If we don't stop Frontier with these anti consumer tactics now, they will only continue to lock more features behind pay walls. Nobody in their right mind would want that, especially in a full priced game.

Yes, until the final feature drops with the live 2.3, it's hard to complain about a feature (that's very minimally activated in the beta so far as well). And there's different levels that they can decide to go with in the nameplate scenario, from modeled after the suits (basic for free, lots of varieties for more), or purchase required, but it's interchangable between ships, so you get the number that you want ships to be labeled at one time. Or worse case, each ship, each SIDE, requires its own bought plate.

Regardless of the nameplate result, the name on the scans showing tied to a nameplate is a bit much. That's not paying for artistic cost and time, that's hanging a feature that was a given since the beginning, all because they know many will go ahead and bite, even if it tastes bad.

Well they've said in the live stream in AngryMog's link, about 8 mins on...

- No included basic nameplate. No money, no nameplate.
- Your ship name will not appear in another person's HUD unless you pay money.

It's a paywalled feature, in a full priced paid for game.

F.F.S.: This was a PROMISED feature. And it is such an important and integral feature that i realy can not understand why they dont include a basic plate into the game paid game. This is realy infuriating me and might push me over the edge. I will have to reconsider my future investments carefully. And currently i do not see myself giving Fdev any more money if they continue to show this kind of attitude towards their customers.

.. it's a pay door, not a pay wall

I'll never understand how people like you defend this crap. We have wanted ship naming since the beginning and have just got it. Now we find out that we have to pay for it to even matter lmao. Frontier is very money hungry and terrible at meeting deadlines.

Should FD really implement the names of ships not shown on our huds unless we pay for it - well, thats one customer less here. This is not about the money, this is about principle. And one of my principles is not to support overly greedy companies.
I bet this will not be the last minor feature that we will be asked to pay for if we want to see it in the game should FD get through with this.
