Would you pay for....

If you took a level 10 character up against a lvl 20 character in any game there would only be a mess left of the lvl 10. But, that's to be expected. Now, what if you have to pay for an Expansion to reach lvl 20? The lvl 10's don't have to stop playing, or buy the expansion, they just have to live with their decision. This happens countless times a year, when a game expands or goes from version 1 to version 2.

This is the best way to consider how Horizons fits into Elite. It is just like WoW releasing a new expansion. No one truly believes all those players that are capped before an expansion should get access to the new content. That's what we have here.

Another contention is; Why is it less fair that an Engineered FdL can dominate an unEngineered one, while it's fine that a Vulture can devour an Adder? What about players with g5 upgrades throughout, compared to those with just g3? As far as I have seen, or read, FD have never made claims that one can be ensured of a fair fight. There will always be cases of imbalance between the accomplishments of one players vs. another. Horizons, and the Engineers is just another version of that same situation.

I Agree, ED is also a very skill based game. Just because you have an engineered ship its not a guarantee of victory.

To many players in ED follow the same route.... 'A rate my ship.... Engineer to class 5'..... 'NOW THE GAME WILL PLAY ITSELF FOR ME.... I CANT LOSE!!...'.....

Wrong.. Learn to play the game first, The engineer mods are just the cherry on top.

--

Engineers are just a feature and they have just as many setbacks as they do Buffs. Added Mass, Added heat, Added power drain, Lowered agility, etc...
Engineered mods are about customisation to your play style.... not guaranteed dominance and victory over every one you encounter.

Engineered mods are a Feature, not a Pay 2 Win hook.

Would anyone care for a way to clean your windows by any chance?

we do pay for ships already by buying the game and the seasons.

the suggestion that ships could be paid for is like suggesting world of warcraft charge you extra for having the ability to move around. ships are legs they are not mounts in the context of wow.

the paid for ships model would fail in elite for the simple reason it would wind up with people not able to get out of the sidewinder because it costs real money not credits to buy ships - and then they will say we dont need credits and rebuys should be free because i paid real £/$ for that ship and i shouldnt lose it because some idiot griefer killed me for no reason/npcs suddenly became OP after the latest update/gerbils switched on my pc and launched my game and i smashed into a planet etc.

What makes you say that? The ships under 2.4 should be included as part of the Horizons content which I've already paid for.

Dude, thats the point: you paid for it. So would you pay, after the season ended, for a 'ship dlc'? If you think its okay that paid-for seasons have ships included, then you dont mind having ships behind a paywall. Because that is exactly what it is.

I cant believe people have so much difficulty understanding the question...

I am fine with paint jobs but if they switch it over to ships I am quieting this game forever. I never want to see one ship up for sale on the store.

Horizons isn't "Ships behind a paywall", it's the remaining 2 thirds of the game. There's a difference between paying for a single ship, and paying because you don't want to be trapped in a version of Elite Dangerous Lite and you'd actually like to have content.

Cosmetics only. This isn't SC.

Well technically its just new hull. It look totally different, but has no stat change. It would still be cosmetic. They could take stats of cutter. make new hull/look and call it panther clipper and add it to store and it would be 100% cosmetic

You miss the point. Its not about buying an existent ship with real money. Its about funding the development of new ships with real mobey, and you still need to buy them in-game.

In that case, absolutely not.

I thought it was about people being able to shortcut getting regular ships by paying for them with real money. Even then, I would not like the idea, because as soon as in-game things become available for sale for real money, it suddenly becomes harder and harder to get them with game money. It would make for some amusing threads though :D

Did you buy Horixons? If so you did just that.

I don't think its the same thing. Not all people who purchased horizons got the Cobra IV. Only people who purchased 1.0 and pre-ordered Horiuzons before a certain date.

I see the Cobra IV as a reward for people who fronted their money in the game when it was still quite barebones (well, more barebones than now). I see it as a "thank you for believing in us" gesture, not as a money-making thing. I honestly doubt that anyone on the planet decided to buy horizons because of the Cobra IV.

If the game will be f2p, then I can pay for "extra" content. For now it's b2p with seasons with price like for new game. And everything what is added to the game in this season should be included with price for this season... not for another money in item shop like they doing now.

Uhm, no they're not doing that right now.
You pay for season two and all that is released belonging to season two.
The items in store are not conected specifically to season two with the exception to a couple paints for season two specific vehicles.
All the rest is optional vanity, free to purchase or not wether you have season two or not.

If you buy a car but after a while there are better looking rims available for that car then you wont get those for free because you bought the car, quite simple actualy.
Complaining because everything isn't given to you for free, isn't there a word for it?

I am more talking about Beluga/Dolphin. AFAIK they require Horizons, or not? If so, just because we got more than just that doesnt mean we also paid for ships. :)

Would I prefer they stuck with a season model for major content and only sold purely cosmetic items? Yes. Would I buy ships/SRVs/whatever if they started selling them separately? Yes.

Sheesh, I hope not, what happens if I'm in deep space, and switch to vanilla from horizons?
Hang on, what happens to my engineered ship when I switch to vanilla?

You're so right. In SC anything you buy in the store will be able to be obtained just by playing the game. In ED they charge you for an expansion and then hold back items which are only available on their store (like nameplates). Pretty sad really.

Why, if offered Horizons - assuming you enjoy the game and intend to continue playing it - would you not buy it?

It's like buying four chapters of a book knowing that it's a work in progress, then refusing to buy the next eight chapters.

Yeah, I have no idea. Maybe you keep your mods? Maybe you keep the beluga/dolphin if your account has horizons access? Maybe everyone has these ships? I googled it but couldnt find anything definitive.

You're dodging the question.
