THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

160m cr is roughly where you get Elite. It varies a tad, it seems, but you should have hit Elite by 160.m I got it at about 154m, from memory.

Z...

That sounds about right to me. I'm on 79% Pioneer and have 137.2m credits from exploration (9543 systems visited, 366,705Ly travelled and a max distance of 16,317Ly).

Nah, as it was unreadable i didn't bother, if it's not just decoration you'll need a higher resolution to see it, my screen is 1680x1050 btw,, iirc

When I was in the Conflux I took several screen shots of writing on many assets. Some which I Posted earlier in this thread. I was going to write then all down and list them out, but figured they were likely standard graphics that will be on all sites everywhere.

Difficult to find though. After seeing Assimilator1's post I checked via this & Canonn front pages without success, then googled but all I found was a couple of Youtube vids that showed little detail. We really need a better way of recording results, with links to albums/original posts. Hope the moderators have sorted something out ready for the new Canonnthread, which I guess will be started when 2.3 drops.

Edit: the Wikia gives approximate costs for each rank & agrees with the 1MCr/%ge point, see http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Explorer

Guess your right thought I have sold more data then what I have.

I've not done a passenger mission yet. When they changed it so that the overall payout effected exploration rank, it seemed like cheating.

It's funny - I've done a bit of tourism but I just got back from a proper exploration trip to the Veil nebula which has left me 98% of the way towards Pioneer. Damned if I'm going to earn the last 2% ferrying terrorists and supermodels around some beauty spots - so no more tourism for me until I hit Pioneer the good old fashioned way.

Yup. I'm currently planning to head back out once 2.3 is live. I still have a boat load of things on my bucket list, including Colonia, Seg A* and the Great Annihilator, but I think it is going to be back across to the far side of the rift again. This time to cover a broad area, looking for patterns in system compositions (many systems in an area full of stars and lots of belts but no planets, that sort of thing).

Edit: thinking about some of the things Drew has said, and some of the clues, I'm now thinking what I will be looking for is several systems, perhaps dozens, as described above, and like this very rough and ready hatchet job I knocked out in Photoshop

This would have been easy to do in the beta, would use in game assets at that time, and if it is a whole area of previously populated systems would be easier to find with a group of people looking, and people may have seen some already, but not recognised them for what they are. It would also suggest a fair bit of possible trouble.

Please note: Tourist missions count towards exploration rank, but do not show as explo data sold.
I made Elite with 'just' 140mn or so of profits from exploration data, and with the final 13% of Pioneer via sightseeing missions.

This might explain the delta in your case as well.
Some courier missions also count towards your exploration rating (although some count instead towards trade rating). If a mission specifies an exploration rating requirement/recommendation, then the reward will count towards the exploration rating.

Hmm, has there been any discussion of the characteristics of the belts in this scenario? One tell-tale sign would presumably be that the belt has just one cluster.

Okay, so I'm back on the outskirts of the EAFOTS sector. My journey through the Rift has turned up 5 Earth-Like Worlds, which I have investigated for beacons and lights, and I've honked near every one. Nothing has turned up at this time.

Unrelated, but I did find a potato moon that was only 150km radius, a size I've never seen before... Was rather interesting to fly around it, because it was also a metal rich body that was not bland and beige.

An interesting moon :), I bet it's gravity is low! Escape velocity in an SRV? ;) lol
So what were the system names of the ELW? (Or were they untagged & you want to keep them secret?)

The tiny moon was 0.04G, and shaped like a rugby ball:

3 of the ELWs I'll reveal once I've sold the data. Two were already tagged and they were:

Schee Hypue PC-M C10-0 2
Myoidee AL-M C21-0 6

I'm going to stick around EAFOTS for a little while and help searching for more ELWs then head back to the bubble.

you have to be in solo. ALT+F10 for the hi res screen shot.

Lol, cool.

No probs on the untagged ELWs, do you know how far the others ones were from Eafotos EU-R C4-1?

Erm, one was all the way across the Rift, so that's a good few thousand lightyears. The others were nearer, but not by much, maybe 2-3KLY.

Ok no probs.

On another note, does anyone know if the red lights flashing on 2 of the 4 pods at the base of the tower have any significance? (Rift Gamma site). Or are they just power indicators etc?
