Can we turn off seeing Commander Ship Names..?

You make it sound like player names (and NPC names for that matter) are lore-abiding and believable. I don't see the difference when it comes to ship names.

This is a family game.

Family game about killing, drug dealership or trading slaves? uh... :O

To all:
In my opinion a shipname, even very stupid, will change nothing. And if you feel offended by someone shipname, then do not look at it and do not feel offended
Its your feeling, your problem, its not your ship, and not your business :)

If you all do not want stupid shipnames, then do not name your ship stupidly ;)

Funny you should mention that - I think I need to point out something to you and the other - 'Grow a pair' shouters.

The game has PEGI 3 rating - It could easily be adjusted to a higher age range but then Frontier would be faced with a huge amount of people who would be eligible for a refund...

I won't say anything else other than the above attitude is one of selfishness, it's not the viewers problem - rather it is the namers problem for being so immature but if people are that keen to show what a dork they can be then let them, as others have said - add them to the blocked list and deny them their childish lulz.

LOL!

Furore about not being able to see ship names....

and now

Furore about seeing ship names!

The adage about "pleasing all of the people some of the time" appears to have been broken - replace with "you can never please Elite Dangerous fans at any time!"

hardly a furore, you understand what that word means yes? i have no issue with frontier, and this isn't going of on something they are doing, or have failed to do, it is simply a small concern about an angle they may not have considered.. kinda simple really.

there are already a few really easy options for a player to deal with this.. the player ignore function, or going to a game mode where they wont be bothered by it.. which essentially means this will be an issue for open. why? because pvp players are inherently predisposed to pushing anything to an extreme, in seeking a win of any sort, and that clearly includes things like edgy naming.

ID Suppressor Module. £2 from the Frontier Store. ;)

And another module for suppressing "First discovered by" tags. That feature has been asked but never promised. Sells like hot cakes. :D

Meanwhile, I'll name my Orca "Majestic Vibrations". Maybe because I have massaging chairs there. Maybe not. :D

(And I continue playing in SOLO. Mostly.)

i'm guessing tongue in cheek, if not outright sarcasm dude? :D

but as its out there now, while i would totally disagree with frontier charging for something, to exclude something, they are charging to include (i hope that makes the same in writing as it did in thinking) i would be a liar, if i said i wouldn't buy it, if it was the only option*.

*not that i think for a second, frontier would go there.

Then you report them. Just include their ship type and name in the message.

This is a family game, so there's no reason to put up with childish idiocy. Wish we had George Carlin's rubber stickem dart guns in game.

Sure you want to bring up George Carlin in defense of complaints over people using nasty words to name their internet spaceship? :D

It is a parents problem to keep their childrens away from a game with things like drugs, slavery, killing and ... stupid naming.

Everyone can name a ship as he like (in the limits of eula of course). Do not say to others how they should play their game and how they should name their ship.
Its called:
selfishness

Game have pegi 7. In my opinion rating should be higher, for example to 16, and game more violent (with an option to block swearing, blood and players). The most players of ED are around 30.

P.S.
When i was 8 i got my first computer and games. Nobody cares at these times about pegi and whatever. My parents controlled what i am playing, thats all.

Wait I thought this thread was about an option to turn off the ship names. How the fraggle would that effect you?

I answered to Bran and wrote opinion about it.
This option is not necessary in my opinion for the game and it is waste of development time, because there is no problem with shipnames at all.

You may agree or not, like it or not. Its my opinion :)

O.K. as long as I know now to be against anything, even a small QOL feature that I feel was a waste of development time. I apparently have some threads to start.

Just put them on ignore, never see them again.

aye, that's definitely an option, but one of the best things about online gaming, is that it broadens boundaries, and reduces borders. the game environment and the ability to enjoy a game, is based more on a passion for the game, and the ability of an individual to play it properly and effectively, than it is about a group member being a male, a female, a particular species, or what peer group they belong too.

so i try to avoid ignore lists as much as possible, in this particular situation we are pretty much talking humour, which is very subjective, and very very peer group oriented, so i'd really prefer something less draconian than the ignore player function, something that will help account for 'peer group banter' without overly impacting the greater population interaction.

I do not exactly what you mean, but i am not started that thread, just i wrote my opinion in thread already started ;)

If Frontier doesn't oblige, I guess you could always put a sticker on your monitor where the ship name would be.
