THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

What choice??

I'm assuming that the choice will be to support Kahina (a spoiled brat imperial ex-senator who abdicated her responsibilities to go vacationing to Beagle Point) or support the Imperial hounds who want her dead after obviously railroading her and accusing her of a crime she (possibly) did not commit.

We in the Earth Defense Fleet don't have a dog in that particular show ... but we still consider Raan Corsen to be an ally in our dispute against Sirius Corporation's purchase of Metadrive. That investigation is still ongoing and we'll likely be on hand to provide support, not to Salome, but to Raan.

If 'All must make a choice' means all players, I guess this is not really about Salome.

In the broader sense, I think the choices will be something like:

1) Support Feds and Imps to once again battle the Thargoids.

2) Support the Alliance and Team Salome in helping and curing the Thargoids, in the hope that they will assist us against an even bigger threat.

3) Sabotage either of the to first choices, in the hope of ending the misery of human civilization by helping 'the third race'.

4) Eat popcorn, watch the fire and steal what you can from the wrecks.

Something for everyone. :)

Finally back home from my first trip to the Rift!

Took one week for getting there, stay 3 days and then return home. Given that i usually need 1,5-2 hours for 20 jumps (I scan everything that looks remotely interesting) this was work. :D

Snip

Than there was the strange moon i already mentioned. Did not have a loading-time like that for the rest of the trip. But who knows. Maybe just networking stuff.

I hope 2.3 drops soon, so i can get this nice Sensor-mod and head back out again.

At least i did not go space-crazy. :)

Congratulations, it is a nice feeling to get first discovered by on parts of the ED galaxy.

There is still frequent internet problem with ED, but not as bad as during the Guardians ruins investigations, or you could have found something..might want to check that out on your next trip.

2.3 sensor engineer? Yes, but s/he will probably be in a permit locked system and the permit will be "in a cellar with no steps in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.”" (Still smarting after wasting best part of a week, and some discomfort from arthritic thumbs, to get to Dangerous only to find Lori Jameson resides in Shinrarta Dezra-what warped alien logic is there in that FD?????)

And protestations of lack of space madness is one very clear symptom! ;)

But where's the option with her telephone number??
I want to report to her a rumour that Cmdr Baton is carrying 100t of MA, but may also be an Imp bounty hunter...;)
And I have a red rose and some dark chocolate for her (if she likes older men). :)

Oh, and being an Independent a spot of all four options could be an interesting play style. :D

#4 sounds awesome. I'll get the popcorn...

If this was going to be the case then on first glance it would already be over, with option 1 winning hands down simple due to the number of Imp and Fed aligned players.

That said it might not be the case as the majority of those just want to pew pew in belts and don't care about arr pee, as was shown in the CoR CG. So maybe there is hope of a less jar head outcome.

'All must make a choice"

Intresting...ALL - not everyone, not everybody - ALL. A pedant might say that ALL might refer to 'things' that are not necessarily players. Presumably it may also refer to NPC's such as the Powers? Presumably if we mean ALL, then we are excluding NOTHING.

'Must' - by legal definition - also not a choice - you MUST abide by the LAW. You MUST choose.

Make a choice - so we are assuming at least 2 potential options - otherwise there is no choice - a bit like Putin - 'its me, or well me'! No choice. Presumably even with a single choice one has the choice of refusing to make a choice - refusal being the choice of course (go popcorn). We can arguably assume it isn't aliens then because only a madman or madwoman would choose total annihilation by an alien race over their own species surely...

So we can assume its a human choice or a choice between two human groups, or more than two groups.

So we have ALL (maybe players but not likely because FDev aren't mad enough to force their players to do anything), so more likely Powers (?) have to choose between... being nice or being not nice. And I imagine the players will get roped into this 'choice' by either choosing to take part (for some benefit Fdev...?) or staying out of it (popcorn).

You might be overthinking it.

We all make choices all the time. Choosing not to get involved is making a choice. Choosing to watch how things play out from the sideline is making a choice as well. Everyone must make a choice ... even if that choice is to ignore April 29th altogether.

HOPEFULLY we'll get a few more hints leading up to "the big event" to help us understand where we need to be and what we need to be doing. Should I head out to the Rift? COL 70? Prism? Do I need a ship outfit for PvP or extremely long jump range? I work on the 29th ... is this going to be something worth using a vacation day for? Will whatever goes down on the 29th already be over before folks in the USA are waking up?

If there is one thing I'm 100% sure of, it's that the choice will not be between nice and not nice. There will not be any nice options.

You've been reading Frontier's secret developer notes, haven't you? Frontier makes it incredibly difficult to play this video game and feel like you walk away as "the good guy" or "the hero".

Side with the Federation and you side with a society that is willingly oppressed by corporate greed.

Side with the Empire and you side with a caste society who's lowest members are often disposable sources of labor.

Side with the Alliance and you may or may not be allied with traitors to the human race.

Think that you can outrun this madness by staying independent? Just means you are unwilling to take a stand.

Players are finally given a chance to create a power of our own to oppose these injustices and what do we choose instead? Yuri Grom.

Choose? Go ahead. Pick your poison.

I agree with you with regards to the Feds.

You are probably right with the Imps too, however Imperial law would contest 'disposable' in strong terms. However we know from Reclamation that what Imperial law says, and what happens might not be the same thing.

The Alliance is the interesting one. Define 'traitors'. To my knowledge that comes from a tongue in cheek remark from Michael Brooks which he then said should not be taken seriously. Of course others have suggested he may have then been backtracking, but I tend to take him at his word.

Would trying to sort out the mess left by the Feds and Imps joint INRA actions, and thus saving Humanity from being royally wtfpwnd by the Thargoids in a very final way, be classed as treason? Or saving the Feds and Imps sorry asses despite themselves?

If aliens had arrived at Earth during WW2 and the Allies accepted their help to defeat the 'very bad political party in Germany in the 30s and 40s whose name it would seem is blocked', would that make them traitors to humanity?

EDIT: I think the danger here is adopting a very old fashioned, us and them attitude, based on appearance (race, colour, nation or in this case species), as opposed to taking a (quite literally in this case) Cosmopolitan (the true meaning: citizen of the cosmos), view and seeing sides based on there actions and principles not the shape of their mouth parts.
