Best Graphics Card

Yeah, i'll most likely be using a GTX 750 Ti, as i'm into low power usage (plus decent performance) unless the new Maxwell versions are as good in the thermals, and if so i'll probably be using one of the faster models.

Hopefully we'll see competition over efficiency with graphics cards. There is a rumour of a more efficient AMD card for next month.

Graphics & Setups

I am about to get a new system which has:

*Nvidia GTX 650 (1GB)
*16MB Corsair DDR3 1600MHz
*AMD FX6300 6 Core processor (Over clocked to 4.1GHz) 8MB Level 3 Cache, 6MB Level 2 Cache
* Asus M5A78L-M Motherboard
* Seagate 1TB SATA HDD At 7200RPM Transferring At 6GB/s
* Blaupunkt 39" Full HD 1080P TV

I cannot change this setup, but will this run ED at a decent level of graphics setting ??

nice, but... think twice :)

I came myself across the new pc question, and finally upgraded to an i4820K (Watercooled) on an Asus MB with 64GbRam (1866), TitanBlack, SSD disks...

Why think twice? I was to buy a 6 core too.... but... most games need heavy graphcard support, there won't be much more fps just because of more cores on the cpu: gpu counts and will do even more for future coming titles! Now the 64Gb ram was intended to boost disk access times for swap and temp files (works well with a RamDrive!), and also because I'm heavy working with premiere pro & after effects, very heavy on RAM. (so my needs are varied... and now fully covered)

If you can easely afford a 6Core cpu, go for it, of course.... but if you have to make choices, then go for a 4Core cpu, and at least a 7xx series from nvidia, with at least 4Gb ram (think future coming titles, not only ED)...

So my advice, if you're obliged to choose because of little money: get a 4Core cpu and way better graphcard! I'm very happy with my TitanBlack... I guess my rig should last 2 years w/o problems.

Oh, just saw you're to get a HDD... this also would be very wise to get an SSD drive, you'd be amazed how fast it boosts your pc booting and loading times!!!

I have a gtx670 and it runs perfectly smooth unless I'm near a planet with an asteroid belt in supercruise. Then it becomes a bit messy.

Thanks Blacky75, Unfortunately everything listed has been bought and delivered (just putting it together today. I am disabled and this was a present. As I did not have a say in the build options (as it would ruin the surprise) I cannot change the setup without upsetting a family member.. :) So with what I have, I just wanted to know if I could run the game without having to set 'minimum graphics' setting in the options..

The graphics card lets it down a bit, but everything is above minimum. Maybe you could sneak another one in.

I believe that card cost around £70 what would you advise I change it to for around the same cost or tiny bit more?

That is as good as you can get for £70. Unless you are going alot more than I wouldnt bother changing it at all. A decent graphics card are at least 3 times that.

Maybe upgrade in 6 months. It should still run the game, maybe at medium.

If possible I'd save up for a bit longer and get a minimum of something around the R9 270 / 760 say about £125 to 175 range, I know it's a lot more and may be a bit high for ED but it does give you a buffer zone.

PS Or maybe a 750Ti around £100?

Ok well it will take me a while to save that sort of money (into the 3 hundreds), as I do not work due to my disability.... I will just have to use what I have. but thank you all for your input. :)

Im currently using a gtx 660 superclocked. And once in a while ill drop down to low fps for a seco d or two. I have everything maxxed out and there are no problems on my dual 23 inch monitors. If your really having issues which I do t think you will. Get a second card and run a sli setup. Though I do agree to just save and get a better single card as I dont forsee terrible performance with that setup.

So you are building it today, does that mean you could be playing elite by the end of the day? Cos you'll soon see if you need a new graphics card or not.

You will probably find your very happy with how it works. Its just being PC elitest really, counting pixels an fps you cant even really see :)

It may do you well till the DLC comes, which could be next year, so theres no rush, and £200 would probably suffice, if you bother at all. But you might be happy with it as it is.

I have been playing for a while now, I am in the premium beta (where I started) and have currently worked my way up to a cobra mk III, with 300,000cr in the bank, but I have been playing on my laptop, at the lowest minimal settings. The laptop developed a fault which caused the change to the new desktop. and with the change I was just looking forward to have a bit of detail, and not have to be on minimal settings again.

That's of course then, first: a very NICE surprise, and second: can't be changed so fast, w/o offense the member :) Now, as a gift, it's a really nice one already! As said above, you might have to change in 6 month the graphcard, that's all :)

So, when you're in game later on, after building your rig, tell us how it goes and how you feel it ;) ;) ;)

Well, as it happens, I will have my new big screen on the wall, that will have the game, I have the laptop (which currently has a battery fault which the battery will be replaced so can only be used with an AC adapter currently) which I can put a live stream of the formula one ,via the internet, and I can get the forum on my kindle fire HD or Iphone...
