General / Off-Topic is scotland leaving the UK?

Yeah, we're talking at cross purposes. GDP per head is irrelevant is the specific context of what I was saying (although I acknowledge that it shows Scotland can be quite prosperous on it's own).

Yes, it shows that Scotland will be quiet fine after independence just like the numerous other European countries of comparable size. If they start exploiting the large oil find to their west when the oil price increases again then they could be leaving a few of us in the dust. An oil fund akin to Norway should be implemented.

so, it's easier to ask here than go to google... why does Scotland want to leave? thought you guys were all chummy?
is the feeling bilateral? what's the general consensus on this in other parts of the kingdom?

and how is this even possible? we dealt with something similar about 150 years ago, and pretty much resolved that you just can't separate from the country ... any part of the kingdom can just up and leave by referendum?

Scotland is a country, joined to the rest of the UK in a union. It's not a single country breaking up, it's one country wanting to end a union with another country.

Honestly, I really hope that oil stays where it is. We have to cut down on oil use fast, and that stuff is too good to burn for energy anyway. Scotland's prosperity will not depend on the "Devil's Tears", I don't think.

For example HS2 and trident liabilities are counted as Scottish liabilities and factored into the deficit etc. In an indy Scotland these would be a non issue and as such irrelevant to deficit calculations.
So will we annex the trident base, like the russians did the Crimea?

Ideally, the stick on hairy chest that is trident would be relocated to a location in England, but previously there had been talk of a deal for the base to remain in Scotland.

Err.... Scotland does not need the oil. Given the freedom, it could become energy stable with in 10 years. It is building tidal powered generators, that are massive and cutting edge, between islands with some of the strongest tides on the planet.

SNP is anti-trident, but the place employs a lot of people and so they have to tread carefully around election time.

Actually Ireland has tidal energy a plenty but the Atlantic can move chunks of rock the size of buses on the West coast during a winter storm, the problem is equipment survivability. Offshore wind has the same problem, on a windy day (which is regular) Ireland can generate 60% of its electricity needs from onshore wind, and is world leading in relation to wind energy/grid integration.

During last Election it was made Clear to the SNP the Military, ALL. that is the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Marines commandos and Royal Airforce will be pulled down south as they belong to the Queen. SNP know this and admit 10,000 jobs are at risk and they claim as in last election they could replace these jobs. They were told they would also be kicked out of NATO and have to rejoin, considering they will have no effective military and they want Trident out and they will hace to pay a yearly fee that most EU countries can npt addord and fail to keep up with, NATO doubt Scotland could afford the memership so would be booted out for ever.

Also no currecny union witht the rest of the UK, Scotland can have their pound but they will be refused currency union with the rest of the UK as the Bank of England has stated , A Scotland that failed going it alone would mean the Ebglish and the rest of the UK will have to bail them out. Well simply we in the south will never tolerate that. The currency was one of the main issues that the SNP failed to convince the voters on and this will be another concern next election as a country without a currency is screwed. But the SNP dont care their main aim is to get out at all costs and jump into bed with the EU, where Scotland know from seeing Greece will be bailed out if they fail.

If the allowed the English to vote we would kick them out, for it is the rest of the UK,60 million of us, that is propping Scotlands 5 million popualation up with 100s of million pf pounds a year, after the oil collapse their revenue is dire so they rely on English tax payers to help them out .

Scotland North Sea oil revenues collapse by nearly 100%

Scotland runs up £15bn deficit twice size of UK's and survives on the rest of UK tax payers helping them

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/nicola-sturgeon/12189037/Scotland-runs-up-15bn-deficit-twice-size-of-UKs.html

Now the SNP do claim they can survive it alone, that is great and good luck to them if they can, but they failed to provide the Scots and convince them all they are telling the truth and so this is the result now..............
Majority of Scots do not want another independence vote in near future, survey shows
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/scottish-independence-referendum-not-wanted-snp-survey-sunday-times-a7552161.html

SNP are in power only because the Scotls don't like Tories and now dislike Labour and so want to run their own house, problem is for them it means having referendums every year as that is the main policy of the SNP in politics and most people who vote SNP do not want to be out of the UK and that result was clear in the last referendum result.

Voting SNP is like voting UKIP to get us out of the EU and have Brexit, we voted UKIP into Brussels, but we wont vote them into no 10 to run the country, alone. Hence the SNP lost their majority last election becaue majority of Scots do not trust them and so far they have lied about their economy in the last two years and were caught out by the Scottish parliament. SNP Lies is every where to be found.

SNP economist admits Alex Salmond LIED about independence oil 'bonus' claim

Scotland’s finances were exposed as the worst in Europe which the SNP lied about and tried to cover up
http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/651319/Scotland-Europe-financial-deficit-SNP

Now i have said before and will repeat, if the SNP allowed the English to vote we would happily kick them out and we would save 100's of millions every year. But the SNP refuse , question is why?

Petition started to let the rest of the UK vote on throwing Scotland out of the union

It doesn't employ as many people as the vote no people were claiming. Their claims were anything from five or six thousand to what sometimes felt like eighty kajillion, but the actual figure is less than 600. In any event, it's a very expensive job creation scheme! For the money it's costing, every single employee could be paid a million pounds to stand by the road waving to tourists, or something, and we'd still be saving a fortune.

Also, there was of course the trident test in 2016 that the government tried to cover up until it was exposed this year. The missile, not carrying a warhead, flew off in the wrong direction..... and was self-destructed at the push of a button by the Americans.

Something like 60% of Scottish power was from renewables in 2015, and the target is for 100% by 2020. The oil is a bonus, as we don't need it either in terms of energy or economically.

Really really? ;)....Yep Americans could stop maintenance of said Tridents and bring in other factors to bring Trident to a halt, but point am making is the British government has of now the decision making in launching the missiles, we could do the tos and fros of hypothetical situations where that could change, but RIGHT NOW the UK has the authority to launch.

PS am Scottish and hope to stay in the Union, love the UK as it is :)

and where is this going? perhaps they could, i was just saying Britain dosnt need authority from anyone else to launch the missiles, i hope it never happens anyway!

And once more.
This is misleading rubbish.

I told you several times now. (Albeit I am not surprised you dont listen as you tend to just life in your own little world and ignore anything you dislike anyways)

1.
Scotland only Collects a Part of the Total Taxes in Scotland. As certain Taxable Areas are done by the UK Central Government.
Meaning they are Counted towards the UK not Scotland.
But these will be Added to Scotland if they Leave.

2.
Scotland is 8.1% of the UKs GDP and 8.6% of its Population.
But it only gets 4.9% of the Budget.

Notice something ?
Funny that 8.6% of the UKs Population which Produce 8.1% of the UKs Economy only get 4.9% of the Budget isnt it ? :)

The Reason for that is Pretty Simple.
Alot of the Taxes Produced in Scotland.
Is not actually Set or Managed by Scotland. But by the UKs Government in Westminster.
This is especially True for the Bigger Companies which are Based in London or other UK Cities and get Taxed in these Areas while their actual Production etc is in Scotland.

These Taxes are counted towards the UKs Taxes and not as Scotlands Revenue.
They are the Share of Taxes which are also Spend on Military and other UK Controlled things.

Thing is.
The moment Scotland is Independent. It will be Collecting these Taxes themselves.

An Exact Number is Impossible to come by of course.
But you can Expect that Scotlands Revenue will increase by roughly over 10-15% after leaving the UK.
The Increase in the Spending of Scotland will of course also happen.
After all Scotland will then Require its own Military etc and has to Pay for that themselves.

But here is exactly the Cracking Point.
Because unlike the UK which keeps an Massively oversized Military for their Country.
Which is Incredible Expensive (In Fact the Military Budget is higher than the Budget of Scotland) and mostly useless as the UK is Sitting pretty Secure in the Northern Sea of Europe.

Scotland does not need to have such an Massive Military.
Meaning they can keep a much smaller Military and thus can Cut down massively on the Budget Costs.
