Mass Effect 4

No I do not believe it has anything to do with bad or good taste.
I am not even sure something like 'good or bad taste' exists at all.
We all have thresholds for what we feel is acceptable and it varies widely among people for all kinds of reasons, and is not even consistent in one and the same person.

Perfectly agreeable statement. Totally agree.

Seems a shame the media near universally went with the same conclusions and ratings.

The biggest mistake the negative reviewers always make is nitpicking on the little stuff. Gameplay is what every game is about, that's all any good game is about. This game is a winner. 600fps, 4k texture, perfect animations and facial movement, exotic armor and BABES and HUNKS don't mean much if the game play sucks.
This game ROCKS. Art critics are usually failed artists with no imagination or talent, but then again. I thought Fallout 4, ME trilogy, Bioshock trilogy, Deus Ex trilogy and DAI were the best of all. Go figger. What do I know. I do know I don't listen to fan based or professional reviewers. So don't listen me . :) LOL HAHAHA

I've always played BioWare games for the story and the atmosphere. Not the texture sizes or the FPS. To be perfectly honest I'd pay full money for a remastered KotOR with a bit of extra content.

Mass Effect: Andromeda was clearly a mistake. Shipping a game in this state was a mistake. Getting rid of most of the writers behind BioWares other games while getting in graphics people was a massive mistake. Mass Effect 3, the ending, was the big mistake, as it locked out further games in the Mass Effect series in the universe we were familiar with.

Dragon Age: Inquisition worked in large part because of the continuity with the other games. Seeing all the other characters, seeing what happened to them etc, was a big draw and added a lot to the game. When Liliana fought the monsters coming into Redcliff it actually meant something.

How cool would it have been to met Garrus or Wrex or Tali again? All not possible in this game.

Either BioWare are such an altered company that they've forgotten what made their games so fantastic, or they've lost so many of their people they've lost the ability to make such games anymore.

I wouldn't, but I'd like them to make games based on the mechanics of their early games. Not the mindless action clones that everyone else also makes. Nothing wrong with new worlds, characters and story. Everything wrong with departing from the original gameplay principles that made the franchise popular in a vain attempt to "capture a bigger (presumably sexier) market".

First night playing...5 in the morning best 50 quid Ive spent in a long time. Came here...salt and negative reviews based on a couple hours watching youtube clips.

Second night playing...4in the morning and only fell asleep because I had near overdosed on pain meds.

Tonight? I'm estimating 2 or 3 in the morning and that's only cos I gotta drive my daughter to school at half 8 in the morning.

Been a long time since a game inspired me to do all nighters so...hate all ye want, Im off to Andromeda ^

I love tali and garrus.
The story and lore in ME:A is great. the point of ME:A was to go away from the original trilogy.
That being said... you do ''meet'' (audiologs , old vidcoms etc) some old chars. not going to say much but its done in a clever way that links everything.

The ending of ME3 is why we can not go back. sadly , all the flaws the franchise has and will have seem to come from ME3's endings.
At least not yet.

The main goal of the initiative is three fold. one of them secret , the other two public
-(Secret)
-Build a ''bridge'' between the two galaxies and re-conect with the council (to me that sounds like a massive plot point , but could be nothing)
-Colonise and learn about a new galaxy and meet new aliens

ME:A lets you fall in love with all new characters and discover a new world.
At some point , like I said it sounds like we will be going back. or bridging the gap but not soon.

A few of the authors of ME1 and 2 are on ME:A and the ones they got for ME:A are talented.
ME1 and 2 will never fade away , but give ME:A a chance , its great.

I loved KOTOR... its not canon , so a remake of it within the new canon would be ace.

But I will be honest and I say , I hated the old gameplay. I found it mindless.
You have the awesome building of your char. true. but there was no gameplay. you clicked and just hoped that the dice roled in your favor. if you built your char right then you never loosed. (unless luck ran out)

The new gameplay makes more sense IMO. I would like the old stats screen back. but I dont think that will happen.
That being said ME:A has more char building than ME2 or 3

100% agree.
ME1 was an all night game
ME2 was as well
ME3 was a game I liked but I never stayed up late to finish it. I just played it a bit every afternoon.

But ME:A is back to the good old days.

You know whats funny? everyone is being negative to ME:A. yet ME:A has less issues than ME3 did on day 1.
True the animations in ME:A are bad.
But in ME3 we had
-Turian ship flying backwards (it got fixed in a mod)
-swaping guns for the avanger randomly
-Heads spining around
-Guns hovering around your hand instead of ''in it''
-Tali is just miss england... IN A FOREST ! (how , why and when) Like quarians are ment to be like greys... anyway I dont dislike the new quarian look , but its not as good as greys. (look at the book ''the art of MassEffect , well worth it)
-Half the game was cut for time (maybe not half , but at least 9 missions)
-some lines are terrible. and this is from me , a massive fanboy.

I like ME3. but I saw all the bugs at the time.
ME:A has only animations bugs and a few odd lines and yet everyone is claiming its the worst thing ever.

Its flawed , but its still a gem.

I hope its not the end of MassEffect.

However Mass Effect Andromeda's gameplay sucks.

Metacritic of pro reviews is 75%, which is far from the ragefest some here claim it is...
And if you look at the ''user'' reviews. you will see a near 50/50 of love/hate.
A lot of the 0s are made up crap about ''SJW'' and listing flaws with the game , most of what are made up. (apart from the animations)

I love it.
Its dynamic and hard when it needs to be.

Best TPS I have played in years. best RPG as well. because yes , the game features a lot of conversations and options

User reviews are poinless anyway, just 10 vs 1 ratings. :p

15 hours in, still working on activating the 3 monoliths on Eos. Playing on insanity and absolutely loving the game so far [up] :D [up]

I had decided to skip this one. But after watching TB's excellent (and lengthy) W T F I decided to give it a try, and I have no regretted it so far.

What is currently bothering me is, we have a character like Niam - his model and textures are great, animations too, and next to him someone like Cora. She looks like a mannequin and her facial expressions spooks me lol
Next Peebe - she is not a beauty queen but also very interesting looking Asari, with lots of character to her face. And then doctor Lexi - your copy paste Asari in Frostbite. She has the same plummy face model every single Asari NPC has.
This is your core crew, with today's hi graphics things like that stands out to the point people will moan about it.
and btw - Dragon Age Inquisition has non of this weird issues, same engine, pretty much similar ppl working on it. Almost all characters looks very good there.

As far as "gameplay sucks" - my only issues are over complicated UI and excessive loading cutscenes. Why my ship has to take off every time I`m entering it just to access mod station??? Other than that its your pretty standard run boost jump shoot Frostbite expiriance.

Glad you like. The game is really very good.

have to admit its growing on me. Still dont get why the beginning dialogue is so bad, or why they decided to start with the most bland environment. But after the three monoliths are activated the visuals get more interesting, and dialogue picks up from there as well.

Gotta spread a bit more love around but agree...me1 and 2 were classic skive days off work to play, including all night long. Me3 fer me was good but it was the multiplayer where I found my addiction level...right up till the point where I was attempting gold maps solo.

Funny thing being I never touch the mp until I've played the campaign through on hardcore twice...that's my usual way of playing games I like and while its a bit touch and go at the start, it does open up a lot more after the first few missions.

Its certainly not perfect, although a previous mass effect experience certainly helps. The ai is a bit dumb and does odd things now and then...Im guessing a small hotfix would deal with that. Its only just released and there are a few rough edges...this is to be expected with just about every game made ever. The core gameplay however is mass effect, but a slightly different style to the combat. Purists will take a little longer to adjust to the somewhat more gritty pace, but underneath the fluff, its still mass effect...but its 2017 and the core gameplay of 2007 has had to mature and change slightly in ten years, so there are subtle differences which some will hate...although personally, Im loving it.

I genuinely hope this isn't the end of the mass effect series. Me3 shot itself in the foot by making a sequel literally impossible, but wth this storyline, there is some scope fer a continuation and rebirth of the series.

Not saying the game is fer everyone because at its heart, its still basically a first person shooter style gameplay with all the upgrade trees that usually accompany the mass effect games, although this one is fairly complex in comparison to the upgrade branches in me3...not overly difficult to learn, but complex enough to wanna spend half an hour just exploring the possibilities.

I could be a much harsher critic as there are a few sins and bugs lurking around, but they aren't game breaking...not even close with most of them being simply bad facial expressions, or lack of as is the case. But the core gameplay has ye wearing a helmet with facials merely being eye candy designed to move a story along. The story itself...hardly an original concept, but a fresh direction in the mass effect universe. Its all well and good fighting reapers and geth and Cerberus again, but...well we been fighting those same enemies in 3 games now and deep down, I think most of us are happy that we have a new set of enemies and a new background in a new galaxy.

Regardless whether the game is fer you or not, and I mean that in general terms, it is my own opinion that the salty critiques aren't worth the paper they wrote on. At best, they cherry pick minor issues which have little to do with the core gameplay and more to do with aesthetics. I find this to be misleading salt to those who do take notice of reviews...its moaning simply fer the sake of moaning and most of those I know who are playing would agree. The game is a lot better than the usual youtube watching trolls would have ye believe ^

I love all MassEffect games. I love most MassEffect things. the only ones I dont like are some of the comics and... paragon lost. I hate paragon lost. it nearly killed MassEffect for me. ultimatly it did not , but I did give away my copy of the movie because it was just bad the movie opens with an alliance officer sexualy harassing another soldier...
It then gives us another gem... biotics recharge via pills you put in your armour (what?!)
Collectors being 3 times taller than humans
Vega being N7 in training pre mass effect
Vega acts like a child and holds a ''normandy for ever'' badge in the intro... right yeah... respecting shepard is not the same as being a 12yrs old fan
At the end the citadel is orbiting a planet and there is no nebula.

I hate paragon lost. to the point I dont even see it as canon and will not see it as such. and I think bioware does as well. I never found any reference to it in outside of what vega tells us in ME3.
So thats good.

About ME:A however. its important to note one of the lies thats going around is that it gets the lore wrong (I have been told on twitter so many times it gets everything wrong)
But the fact is , it actualy fixes plot holes from the comics. such as the presence of the Mako in the first contact war. in ME:A they say that the one seen in ME1 is a varient , and that there are older ones.

I even have all the mass effect ship replicas , I love mass effect. I love andromeda and I love the original trilogy. if I ever say anything critical about mass effect its out of love for the franchise.
ME:A has been the best game I have purchased in a long time. its up there with the original mass effects , Elite dangerous , X2 and the elder scrolls.

Given your avatar I had the feeling you did not like the peebs.
I have to say.... she my n1 asari.
She looks cute , I would argue she is the most attractive asari I have seen.

That being said , I wish tali was pale skined with no hair as I felt that if they made her ''ugly'' it would make the story of her love even nicer.
But then , I hate ME3 ash and miranda. (for ash its such a shame ! she was intresting in ME1 and 2... and they made her miranda 2.0)

I am wierd I gues... because I found default sara ryder to be pritty. she looked like a real life human went into a video game , rather than a ''top'' model.

As for why the animations are bad?
I think they tried to add too many areas that could move and animate EVERYTHING by hand.
But then they ran out of time...

I wish they just did what they did in the old games , have a bunch of pre made animations and use them in creative ways.
Thats why some bits in the game feel amazing and well animated , and others... like a 2003 game.

But it does not do any damage to me , because it could have all been text like in morrowind and I would have still loved it.

Anyway heads up to anyone who cares , the 4th april bioware will tell us what they are going to do with the game (to ''fix'' it I mean)

No I like her - what I meant is I have no problem with her face being little bit awkward, it fits her character quite well.
But copy paste NPC look that Lexi has? Almost scary Cora? You did great Dragon Age characters, I know you can do better than this Bioware...
