Horizons Tedious Gring

I'm quitting this game. I've tried 4 times now to rank with an Assassination ranking mission, but I can't find the target. I've ranked b4 this way, but I now have 4 back to back mission failures. I scan Nav then head to where the target is expected. I scan every ship while in super-cruise, scan every signal source and no joy. The hostiles they say are coming after me show up, but not the mission target. Games are supposed to be fun not irritating and you off. I'M DONE

Humm...

The "Gring" (pun intended) stole Christmas?

We've all had mission fails. Sucks. Carry on.

Fly Safe. It's still worth it (even with the soul rending grinds).

The game was not made to be easy, many have threatened to quit because of one set back or another. I certainly felt that way when losing one ship or another when I started.

The funny thing about it is that once you get a little experience and success, it starts to snowball and gain momentum. You eventually get to a point where the game is quite nice and you get credits, ships and to access engineers.

It takes perseverance, a few hundred hours of play, you'll do fine.

But if you quit now, you'll never know.

Was there a certain time he was supposed to show up in-system?

I've found when I couldn't locate the target that just cruising around in SC until he shows works, maybe you weren't there long enough.

I've also had luck catching them by carrying 1T of any cargo and letting myself get interdicted by the target.

Don't give up CMDR!

Then you get to be like me, several weeks worth of play time and just cannot be bothered with the grind any more.

Or you can be like me w/ over 14 weeks of play and still playing. Now I'm planning to go for a Cutter, even though I have disdain for those effete Imperials;).

I would, I just can't see why? I'd be doing it just for the sake of it at this point. I'm waiting to see if Fdev add anything of substance before I reinstall it.

I play because rrobes is such a nice guy that if he doesn't like his cutter he might let me blow it up just for giggles.

The other 1200 odd hours of play I've done is just to fill in time till rrobes decides he doesn't want his cutter anymore.

PS: I think I've only had the game for 1200 odd hours.

Funny you should mention the Cutter, I just spent a few hours in Beta buying a Cutter and fitting it out to the nines and guess what? I am really at a loss to like it.

It is insane fast in a straight line, can carry A LOT of stuff, looks very sleek and will get 24ly in a jump.

But, it is a grind, or gring, (I am only a squire for the Imps) to buy. It is VERY expensive to top out in kit. Further, it is very loggy in hyperdrive when turning, even DD5's FA/Off doesn't make it turn with appreciable speed in normal space, the weapon convergence will take getting used to and the one Huge hardpoint leaves me wanting the two from the Corvette (no convergence issues there).

Don't try to speed into a station, it doesn't shed speed easily and in a CZ, TTK is longer because of the previous issues.

Ran into some heat issues w/ my loadout but something that could be adjusted I'm sure.

So, in short, Mike will have to wait because I'm postponing the Cutter Crusade for the foreseeable future.

Sorry Mike.

Did you scan the System Beacon/surface data point that it tells you to scan? I've always found my target within about 10 minutes of scanning the beacon.

I just go to the planet indicated and then drop my throttle to 0 - the target always appears within drop out range, then it's weapons hot...

One of the by-products of this game, is that if you don't already have it, ED teaches you patience. I hear of Commanders who want to rank to Admiral in a week, have millions of credits and the largest ship in the game. These are signs of the "I've got to have it right now" world we live in. The problem is, these people never reach satisfaction.

Theodore Roosevelt once said “Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.”

I spent the first several weeks in my little Sidewinder just trying to earn a few credits. Most of the time I was scared and/or very nervous. The added stress may have actually taken a couple of years off my life (remembering the first time I was interdicted). That being said, I wouldn't have traded that time for the world. The stress really help to "put me in the moment". If you don't see the beauty of the game, then it just isn't for you.

So some of you people don't even have the game installed but your on the Elite Dangerous forum...ahhhh...ummmm..whaaaa....

Well as I type this ive not played for getting on for two months and dont have the game installed.. Ok this is due to a recent reinstalling of Windows, and ill reinstall the game when 2.3 goes live

But even tho I dont have it installed and not playing at the moment does that mean I have no right to be on the games forums to voice my concerns or to share some love for it if its deserved. Im still very much intrested in ED but from time to time I leave it well alone.

As for the OP, seems a bit drastic to bail after this tbh
