Well Done Frontier, you knocked this one out of the park

I must say, I'm liking your take on it. And that's as a CMDR who doesn't care about multicrew at all.

Not a word about how you'd make more in a wing, how you'd need credit incentives in a game where credits are too easy to come by anyway. Just enjoying the gameplay a new feature provides.

Too often people act as if the new thing just has to be more efficient than the old thing. Why would I play multicrew when I can make more in wings? Well, because of the experience, because of fun, because of the enjoyment of playing the game. Not because you'll see an mostly irrelevant and already large number go up a tiny little bit faster.

Cheers.

Well, I don't think I'll use multicrew as it's intended, and I'm not as excited about that. But that doesn't matter. I know some people will love the feature, and I'm pleased for them. It does open up new opportunities for cooperative play, and some people will just adore that. Didn't they say in the Live stream that it was intended as a fun feature? ED needs fun things as well as simulation. Not sure it's going to be Chess from Checkers quantum shift that Ziljan says. But if it is for him - great, I say.

I'm just purring that SRV Scanner is fixed.

But you guys are missing a trick.

With multicrew you get to be...A FORUM GROUPIE.

Thanks to multicrew, yes you YOU can:

Fly the Go Ahead Eagle with Ziggy.
Swan around deep canyons (albeit not as deep as they used to be) with Obsidian Ant.
Pull off a daring rescue with Chiggy von Richthoffen! Ricterhoffn Richterastley Chiggy.
Be involved with the gank of ganks with ***** ******!
And who wouldn't want to be in Braben's Asp as he flies into Shinrarta D?

Nuts to this, I'm off to be a roving reporter! :D

Get invited to Sir Anuraniums proud Conda and backseat drive all the way :D
"Watch out for that ridge!", "Easy on the thrusters man", "Mind the pedestrians!"

And as cheerleader of course.

"So Edward C Lewis, you just made Elite in Exploration, how do you feel about it and when are you going to grow those stubbles into a real man's beard?"

Not sure it's going to be Chess from Checkers quantum shift that Ziljan says. But if it is for him - great, I say.

I learned a long time ago, Elite is much deeper and richer than even most of the veteran player base realizes, including some of the devs! It's really just far too complex and sweeping for most individuals to grasp every facet. I've been playing for 2 years, I know quite a bit more than the average veteran, and I am still doing daily experiments to learn new things.

All of this complexity and layering means that Frontier's is a different kind of sandbox. It's the kind that is designed to accessible by all kinds and yes it certainly caters to casual and inexpert play as well. However, you can still get out of it whatever you put into it. So some people will play it like checkers (which is absolutely fine), but others who have been a little further down the rabbit hole, can also play it like chess.

Now the chess level isn't necessary to succeed or enjoy the game, but it sure is a lot more fun and engaging IMHO. Multicrew adds another layer that causes many of the other layers of mechanics to converge in interesting and dynamic ways. So while some people think that wings are inherently better or stronger than multicrews, they are missing some key bits of info that even the score, at least in terms of PVE effectiveness. And to a certain extent, PvP as well.

On the lighter more comical side..... did anyone else nearly fall out of their chair laughing at the sheer amount of ugly in the male/female presets?

Never mind fall out of my chair, I nearly hid behind my chair a couple of times!

Doctor Who flashbacks...

I mean it was just 50 presets of "my puppy died, I have not slept in 3 days and I hit every branch on the way down". I thought it would get better as I kept clicking but no! Just 50 shades of ugly. Given the appearance of most of the mission board npcs I guess we shouldn't be surprised.

It'll be a great update when I hear about a fix for the bland 2.3 Anaconda bridge.

I like it in a kind of Ford Fiesta 80s sort of way. It's a little too plastic looking though...

You were expecting supermodels in space? :D

Played all day, and Caveat: I had some issues with framerate dropping to 17FPS and getting stuck there when in the first person cockpit mode. But besides this almost game stopping issue cropping up twice for 30 min at a time, I had an AMAZING first day in 2.3. Multicrew is a resounding success, seeing other players, being on their bridge, inviting people to mine, and then teaming up to smash NPCs (and the occasional kerfuffle with other players)... oh man. THIS is what this game was meant to be, and I am looking very much forward to seeing where Frontier takes things from here.

So thank you Frontier!! I celebrated by purchasing a slew of stuff from the store. Outfits and ship nametags etc. Really looking forward to that FDL shipkit.

I quite like multi-crew too. Although lots of connection issues, when it works though its cool. I'm guessing there will be lots of bug fixes going on shortly.

Well, i'm very happy with is so far, but what surprises me the most is Ziljan being positive about this despite the warts! Hell, if Ziljan can be positive despite the bugs, FD must have done something right! :D

I really like what they did with the CMDR creator.

Can really pull some old west space cowboy faces with it. One of the best
avatar creator I got to play with I must say.

And man, those asteroid bases. Distilled awesomness, especially the one in hing nebula, which
was already one of my favorite place ^^

Too bad there is not more of them in the bubble space though.

Bugs don't normally vex me, because Frontier is very good a squishing them, especially random mysterious FPS-drop related bugs.

The only things that really annoy me are designed imbalances that funnel players into a faction or mode of play. Apart from the ongoing combat centric development, Frontier have actually cut down on these imbalances this patch, and as long as they appear to be moving in the right direction, and giving players viable options to choose from, I'm very content. They've even granted my heart's desire to be an effective Professional small ship pilot with 3 viable and very different fighters to choose from.

So no, no serious complains here. I've even decided to be relieved by the lack of massive hull buff. :)

Be careful though. There is apparently a bug where engineered modules disappear from storage, so don't mess around with outfitting until they patch it in a day or two.

so it's a confirmed bug?

i was baffled yesterday to discover that my finely modded c4 beam wasn't in my storage. i was convinced i had put it there, but then just assumed i had screwed up somehow.

frontier, this already happened in 2.2 ... [where is it][down]

hear hear !

I bought loads of new stuff too, a guilty pleasure.

It's a good update from what I see so far. It's a better game experience. Credit where it's due.

Now the aesthetic side has been dealt with, I hope the quest will be for that fabled thing: content.
That's what I've been waiting for release after release :(

I've sort of give up with season 2, so now hoping season 3/v3 gives us something actually more interesting/involved to do than simply re-offering the same two year old RES farming mini-game gameplay as something supposedly challenging, involved and meaningful...

So yes multi-crew lets you do stuff togethor in a new way, but in truth you're generally just doing less of the same stuff you've been doing for 2+ years basically...

Note: Asteroid bases underline your point perfectly. Do they offer absolutely anything new, for example new gameplay/depth for piracy? No they're just pretty reskinned new stations.

The Commander Creator is very good. I don't share your excitement for MC however. There's nothing new about this except for the silly third person view and the fact that the previously automatic turrets are now controlled by another player. There's no actual new multicrew functionality other than that single pip you can put into another system.

You'll be having fun with this for a few weeks, but then it'll be stale.

I agree, 2.3 is a fantastic update.

I love the "headline" features; Holo-Me, Camera Suite and Multi-Crew - but even the small things which aren't headline make this update worthwhile. Bugs aside, this is a solid update and it went live on time and I had a fun evening on 2.3 without any issues.

Thanks and well done Frontier!
