F22 Raptor, currently one of the most advanced aircraft ....

Vulcan 20mm cannon in a fixed mount.

I said depending on SIZE, as even the smallest ship is 4 times bigger than any modern aircraft...

Go watch giant Anaconda align itself to shoot guns, it's ridiculous.

I have been watching some SC combat gameplay and I would say Elites looks better and more realistic, from a how the ships look in the external view type of way. A lot of the anacondas weapons dont need allignment, they fire in all directions, the turret weapons,

Care to enlighten us on what vehicles those might be? Other than maybe tanks or Humvees most combat vehicles that come to mind have fixed weapons unless manned by someone other than the pilot. Attack jets and helicopters come to mind...

Apache helicopters have had this capability for years (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_AH-64_Apache#Avionics_and_targeting).

I'm not sure that a similar system should be implemented in Elite though, certainly not on the smaller ships.

I actually dislike games that portray larger ships being able to spin on a dime. That's the main reason I'm not a big fan of Limit Theory right now, as his ships don't seem to have a sense of mass.

But as most have pointed out, that's why turrets exist, in reality and in Elite, so you don't have to steer the larger ships to target the smaller annoyances.

But SC has perfectly reasonable weapon systems that can be moved around just like on every vehicle ever in real life.
Moving your entire ship like it's a part of a weapon that needs to be aligned with the target is just silly.

No mention of size there. You categorically said 'just like on every vehicle ever in real life'

My work here is done.

I wondered how long it would take for the OP to begin on how SC is better. ;)

I realize this guy is a troll and all...

But the fixed weapons are a genre conceit. This is a space opera dogfighter, the combat is loosely modeled on WW2 dogfights. Fixed weapons and flying by the seat of your pants are all part of the fun.

Actual space combat would probably depend on who gets targeted first and then splattered with a rail gun or directed energy weapon moving at speeds impossible to defend against or dodge.

Personally, I'm willing to suspend some disbelief in return for a heaping of good gameplay.

did you ever aim with a tank? some weapons have a slower turning rate.

Basic weapon - fixed mount - steer ship on target - design decision.

Maybe this is a job for the robot droid that has been showcased previously. During combat you deploy the droid which adjusts the fix mounts so they point in the direction of the target enemy. - I jest

Seriously though - if the biggest thing that is off about the game is that basic weaponry is too basic and the statement is made from a fan of Star Citizen then I think that is a huge compliment to FD and the design of ED.

Most airplane guns can NOT be moved around, you do indeed have to align the entire plane to shoot at someone. So you're just factually wrong here.

Also, "every vehicle"? I have a Volvo. There are no guns on it, fixed or flexible. So you're wrong on that count as well.

A10 Warthog comes to mind, a plane built around a gun.

OK, the biggest ship, Anaconda, does have the option of automated turrets, but as you can see in this video they are just for show, having the accuracy probably below 10%.

That might be an excellent opportunity to have an option of buying different tiers of targeting computers/algorithms but that doesn't seem to be the case.
