THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Unfortunately that's the remit that's been given. CoR are roleplayers and explorers, they rarely PVE (except when on terrorists duty :p), and PvP is something way down the list.... In fact it's not even on the list and is something the group has never been a part of. Yet on the 29th they've been asked to play a role and go up against massive organized groups who have 2 years of PVP experience behind them, and are probably all kitted out with G5 engineered ships.

Explorers and roleplayers vs CODE and SDC [knocked out]

CoR don't have a prayer unless others take an active role. But even if they stand alone against those odds, and it ends up being a PvP slaughter, that's how it'll play out in the story, and at least one group will try to put a story to it beyond a mere gankfest.

We'll PR it into a glorious defeat! :D

Have to ask,,did C.o.R. ever figure out who holfac'ed your super secret founding meeting and handed it and her to Petreus?
One thing we do know about C.o.R. is it's a honeypot for spies and traitors.

Attempt to retrace the Formidine Rift Beta/Gamma Expeditions. Day 8.
.
After the first leg of my journey today, I decided that if I was going to have a chance of crossing the Rift in time to take part in the Buckyball Racing Club event due to start tomorrow and also to prepare for the 29th April, then I would have to stop scanning so much and just make as much progress as possible. Fortunately, I had just about reached the half-way point and after a couple of long plots (at worst, 44 jumps for about 310LY) I made it through to where I could manage full distance again. I am now about 4800LY from the Abandoned Settlements and in about the direction I think the expeditions were travelling in. Tomorrow I will begin searching this region for Earth-like Worlds but I think I only have one day to spare for this, unfortunately, even though I can probably save myself some time on the return journey by using the Heisenberg Bridge.
.
Summary of today's findings:
  • One Earth-like World: HYPIAE AIM US-U C2-0 BC2 (previously discovered). No signs of beacons/*SS/orbital bombardment.
  • One Ammonia World: DRYAEA AIRG FW-E D11-12 6. No beacons/*SS, atmosphere too thick to observe signs of orbital bombardment.
Summary of my route:
The bookmarks to the upper and lower left mark the beginning and end of the Formidine Bridge. The cluster of bookmarks near the Heart and Soul nebulae are locations of Earth-like Worlds I visited on a previous trip. The lower-right bookmark (HYPOAE AESCS YE-R D4-2) is the end of the Heisenberg Bridge, the beginning of which is amongst the central cluster. As you can see, I missed finding this way across myself and came by a more circuitous route.
KNrwrAi.jpg

The yellow ellipse marks my estimate of where I think I might find traces of the Beta and Gamma Dynasty Expeditions. The bookmark to the right of the ellipse is the end of the Heisenberg Bridge.

I hope Salomé lives: I'd hate to depend on us finding the 'it' ourselves with no more clues! There are few first discovery tags now I'm on the far side of the Rift, though, so perhaps I am in the right place. There is still a huge region to cover.
Fly safe!

This in itself is a reason to assist. Code and SDC failing would amuse me no end.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

If you do not agree with Salome's decisions, but hate Code/SDC even more, that that's another reason to join in and help. The odds are against us, but we fly in the face of danger knowing this already, not JUST for Salome, Raan, Tsu & Yuri, but also for our fellow CoR brothers and sisters.

ANY help, regardless of motivation, is both needed and appreciated.

To my mind Miss Loren could make things a lot easier on herself by seeking safe harbour with the Alliance.

Of course given Raan Corson has been with her, who also came to the Alliance for safety and former junior Alliance operative Tsu Annabelle Singh (why former we don't know) has also been with her, she may have been there and did speak with the Alliance already. So what I don't understand is what is it she is going to do that she can't just broadcast? If she has proof of something so important then do a Snowden and give it all to major broadcasters, once it is out it will be everywhere and the Empire, Federation, Sirius, Wreaken or whoever will have no chance of putting it back in the box.

What is it that she must physically do, or go to?

When it comes down to some fighting at the 29th event I will be very disappointed. I am still hoping that they have something more sophisticated in store.

Haha, then let it be. Like the final scene of The Mission.

I have my exploration FDL kitted to lightweight combat build with 530 boost speed and whatnot, but even that will be melted in minutes. So i might RP it with my bubble dweller Cobra Mk4, that costs less to rebuy.

Err, answered none of my questions apart from the fact that yes a child will be found guilty for the sins of their parents in the Federation.

You seem to be ignoring that it was an illegal fed colony in imperial space so no Fed jurisdiction.

But just goes to show Fed justice is about as fair as imp judtice. Basically not at all.

As far as ships for the 29th go, I was going to go with my armed exploration Asp. But if things start kicking off it would not last very long.

I have however, two fully engineered Pythons in the bubble, and one in the Pleiades. All with 26+Ly ranges and 440+ boost speeds. One in particular would be handy as it has three Regeneration Sequence large beams. However using those to effect would require I be in a wing with Salomé herself, which would be exceptionally unlikely. To that end I will probably be in the 'Spear of Allioth' as it is the fastest, and also has the best shield and most aggressive offensive load-out.

(as an aside what I won't be doing is playing in VR. Trying to follow someone on the Gal map and having to do it in VR is a non-starter. By the time you have selected the star you want the event will be over)

I have many reasons to want Salomé to survive... even if it's just to force answers out of her :D. It's not just those groups either - the fact that the Empire wants her dead gives me reason to assist her. No, I don't actually like her character, but my reasons to want her alive do outweigh my reasons to want her dead.

I expect to be using my Python too. I'm not really experienced at PVP, and I don't really think a python is great for it, but I'm certainly not flying my FDL around the galaxy for this.

Additionally, I feel that the characters for the event should be allowed to carry an occupied escape pod that could be considered theirs. That would give them one final lifeline should the be able to eject it before destruction, and another player could scoop, and survive with it.

When it comes to tactics and loadouts, I strongly recommend you guys to check the official Discord before getting out there in your *insert expensive ship's name here*.

As far as I know, CMDRs are advised to buy a fast ship (iEagle, iCourier...), outfitted with enhanced performance thrusters and "chain-interdict" them without engaging. Rinse and repeat (and rebuy every now and then).

My fellow commanders, I have been thinking.

We face before us a situation which may have drastic consequences for the galaxy.

I, like many of you trust none of the protagonists involved.

Salome may have something genuine to reveal, or she may not. Whether what she has to reveal is true or not, her intention to reveal it may be purely altruistic or it may be for her own personal machinations.

Even if there is a truth to reveal and Salome intends to do so out of altruism, has she shown herself to have the wisdom to be able to decide whether revealing it is truly for the greater good? Does she believe that a truth should be revealed no matter the cost? What if the cost is several trillion lives? Has she shown the regard for life to be trusted with a decision of such potential magnitude? And is it fair for her to face the burden of the decision and its consequences alone?

The Children of Raxxla, for all the calibre of individuals involved, appear to be committed blindly to Salome regardless of whether she is truly worthy of such devotion.

And what of the other players? The Empire, the Federation, the Alliance, the Pilots Federation. Are any of them trustworthy? Some may balk at my mention of the Pilots Federation, but is it not that very same Pilots Federation that blocks us, the Pilots, from travelling to areas where we know they have allowed access to other organisations and people?

And what of the other, far less public, forces which I, along with many of you, suspect are at play behind the scenes?

I ask you my fellow commanders, who can we trust in this situation?

I say the only people we can trust are ourselves.

I propose that the only reasonable course of action is for us to form a Council. A Council of Independent Commanders.

We will form a round table. And we will bring to the table Salome and representatives of all the other parties involved. And we will hear what they have to say. And together we will decide what shall happen. And together we shall bear the consequences.

What say you, my fellow commanders?

/RP :

Your proposition is not without interest , however , we , house Saenevas Algir , remain loyal to the Empire and thus have to decline your offer. May I suggest you read the communique we sent to all imperial pilots and houses. You might find we have somewhat the same point of view on some matters regarding the upcoming "Truth". But on the other hand , CMDR Salomé has bounds to the Empire and as such , has to be interrogated again in order to be sure that imperial security is not undermined by some supporters.

Here is the communique:

This is a communique from the imperial House Saenevas Algir , reported by House Seanevas algir's spokesman Sacha Haleb Tolaref .

" To all noble imperial houses and honorable imperial pilots , on behalf of Ulrich Stanislas Saenevas Algir , patriarch of his House , I hereby give you our position on the Salomé matter , former Senator Kahina Tijani Loren.

As you all may know , the senate, through the voice of her highness, Senator and Princess Aisling Duval , has put several orders to shoot down CMDR Salomé on sight as a retribution for her crimes towards the Empire.

Senator Aisling Duval has caught the senate short by urging all imperial citizen to bring Salomé's life to an end for justice to be rendered. She made the call with all the passion which charaterizes her will, cutting grass under possible wiser analyses . To have seen this enemy of the state raised from the ashes might have been the cause of this harsh , yet passionate, decision.

If we don't contest the fact that the former and dismissed Senator may have a key role in the strike against Senator Patreus, and may also be involved in plots against our whole nation, we urge all of you to reconsider those kill on sight orders, at the light of the recent events around CMDR Salomé.

We understand the need for justice to be given , and in those terms , we aknowledge the call from Senator Aisling Duval . However we clearly think that a blind strike against CMDR Salomé would not serve the Empire and on the contrary , may put our future security in danger.

It is obvious that CMDR Salomé benefits from an efficient help from several dissident groups and perhaps from within imperial security . Their moto is to state that Salomé suffered injustice while on trial , and that she owns secrets that would free people from the hands of our "puppeted" leaders.

Not only we have no evidence that what they say is true or not , but above all , we don't know if such "truth" won't jeopardize the entire human civilizations by raising a wind of panic accross the human buble. Would you take the risk to put the worlds on fire just to bring out some mysteries that would inevitably unveil themselves in due time ?
Would you risk our fate by preventing our leaders to prepare what is to come ? Not all the truths are wise to be voiced aloud for all to hear.

We are all aware of the recent dicoveries across the galaxy. We all know that something might occur in a close future.Yet we need time and reason , cold blood and serenity to prepare for what may arise from the void, not blind panic spured by some self-proclaimed "Bearers of thruth".

In addition , killing CMDR Salomé right now would only create a martyr , a beacon for their cause and a justification for possible blood shedding riots. When all we need in those troubled times is unification and self control.

For those reasons, we beg all imperial pilots and lords to capture CMDR Salomé alive in order to bring her back in Empire juridiction , where we would be able to get intelligence from her. Intelligence about how deep are her connections and who are those who might help her from the inside . We don't want another Emperor's Dawn case.
Intelligence about what she pretend to know and how deep is the panic feeling that might have been instilled in those at her contact.

Death should be the last resort to prevent her to flee with her complices, yet we hope for this not to happen.

For the sake of the Empire we need to know her contacts, what are those groups' means of action and we urgely need to prevent the fear to spread.

We sent our conclusions to her Highness the Emperor , with the hope she might voice her wisdom on this case and endorse our cause.

Long live the Empire , all hail the Emperor.

Ulrich Stanislas Saenevas Algir, pair of the Empire, patriarch of House Saenevas Algir."

-Sacha Haleb Tolaref, official spokesman of the imperial House Saenevas Algir.

As you can see , we have a real imperial security matter here alongside serious doubt on the whole human buble stability.

Regards CMDR Thatchinho,

CMDR Leif Saenevas Algir, Algir space division CEO, heir of House Saenevas Algir.

I decided to take a look at two new asteroid bases. First the one in T Tauri (nice position between Maia and Col 70) and then Flaming Sector. Then i just said to myself: why not continue to the rift from there? Can make it there and back before the 29th anyway. So i am on my way again.

During the jumps a question came up for me, that you guys might know the answer about. As i understand, the drives of the Dynasty-Expedition took a long time for jumping. According to the logs, they spent 5 months inbound and had planned only 2 months dropping beacons at ELWs. And multiple were actually dropped. So here is the question:

How in randomious name did they now where to go? They basically had no time planned to search the sectors for ELWs. They just went there and got to work.

Just seems odd to me. :S

I am confused about those old jump drives. They say in the logs that they spend more time in witchspace as in normal space, yet everybody is telling me that those old drives took weeks to charge and then could jump a very long distance... [wacko]
