Community Event / Creation Buckyball Racing Club Presents: Heavy Metal

A quick shout-out and thank you to Stern Winter for joining me in a multicrew as I ran in Open in my T9. o/
It was an uneventful trip, whilst my other runs today have had pirates declaring an interest in my cargo, although none have managed to get in an interdiction attempt, except for a Deadly-ranked Clipper but that was only because the station instance was taking a long time to load and it did not prevent me from making my normal approach to the station and docking. The supercruise transitions have been a bit longer for me today but I was in Open without the frame rate drop, so at least that was something. Somehow I managed an improved time, perhaps due to having that Clipper on my six.
Fly fast! o7

A full set of shock mine launchers and a heat sink does help a lot when interdicted. While the FSD cools, I pop the sink and launch as many mines as I can while I'm boosting and then I jump out as soon as the drive is ready.

I'm well off the pace in this event and now I know why. Not enough background music. My next attempt will rectify that.

The heavier the metal the faster the time. It's science!

Speaking of which, I LOVE the new raider flight suits, they look ragged enough for a buckyballer to wear! And if I get the red one I'll go faster.

Hi EZ!
Just a question... Is valid to make an intra-system trade? (4 jumps but 5 trades).
I'm planning the run, but don't know if I will be able to run it with my 1997 Sidewinder Joystick.
Way to blow the secret strategy! :p

I'm curious about this too, though I haven't used it yet.

Hey Onane! Long time no see! :) Intersystem trades, eh? Well, let me ask The Rules.

The Rules said:
Your Flight Plan will look like this:
Banapityas -> U Carinae -> Banapityas -> Sounti -> Banapityas
OR Banapityas -> Sounti -> Banapityas -> U Carinae -> Banapityas

Well, I tried but you know how The Rules are. No buneo. Gotta be out and back for each trade run. The original plan was to include an in system trade run (Treschov to one of the mining stations being an obvious one) but when I tried it out it actually slowed the flow of the race. So sorry, this super secret strategy has been shot down.

BTW tonight's update will likely be after midnight Texas time/0600 GST, but hold onto your seat belts because as the race draws to an end I will be including PPS in the results.

The numbers were promissory.... but if Bucky says no...
(I'm mostly out of the circuit until July, cos I'm transferred across the Atlantic, and I'm spending my time trying to organize the move of the family and the container (& the rig & the decent HOTAS) from Colombia to Morocco).

If it's any comfort, I've tested it and found it loses to a four trade route by 60ish pps.

Heavy Metal is on the home stretch, less than two days to go before a winner is crowned and the legal fees are settled. To celebrate, the Heavy Metal leaderboard now proudly displays each CMDR's PPS rating: Profit Per Second, a handy-dandy measurement of the pilot's profit for the run divided by the time in seconds. This is the gold (or palladium) standard by which we are measured. And now, you can each figure out how far ahead or behind you are from the competition as it draws to a close. The Big Ledger of Record closes at 23:59, 23 April so get those last runs in soon!

First off, in the Nines...

Uh oh. After receiving word that CMDR Polly's 500-ton capacity Nos Subisto De Somethingorther had snatched first place from his grasp, CMDR Bruski did what any Buckyballer would have done. Damn the shields, full speed through the slot. The Oversized Coffee Machine, uh, excuse me Delectens Meum Cafeum (you scamps and your poorly translated latin names) was not going to be denied. But treachery was afoot! Someone, and we don't know who, dropped a dime on Bruski and the telemetry of his leaderboard-topping run was confiscated by port authorities at Banapityas on a trumped up musical copyright claim. Though it's impossible to determine who it was who snitched Bruski out to the Recording Industry Association of Achenar, without evidence to the contrary we must conclude it was Senator Denton Petraeus. That guy can suck it.

Unfortunately, that means Bruski's time is listed as "Under Review" as he locates data from his backup flight recorder, but as Bruski's reputation with the Club is impeccable (and he has great taste in music) there's little doubt he'll be able to come up with the necessary data.

Meanwhile, CMDR Stern Winter engaged in a tug of war with CMDR Aken B., with the Majestic Møøse Cøw engaged in a life-or-third-pace struggle with the Graceful Betty. In spite of a clean, uninterrupted run and higher profit by Stern, Aken B managed a better time on the clock and Betty leads by a nose.

CMDR <-lightspeed-> made his debut in the Golden Ticket, earning a solid 6th space finish, and CMDR Edelgard von Rhein in the Extra Zero battled interdictions, cantankerous hyperspace jumps and a foreshortened cargo bay to stay out of reach of the Type-7s nipping at his thrusters.

The Sevens saw a little bit of action, with CMDR Alec Turner pushing his throttle and trade skills to propel the Size of a Cow to first place in the Type-7 class. But as with the Nines, first place is fleeting, and Aken B. pulled into Treschov in the Holy Cow with a buzzer-beater to sneak in for the lead. Still, with two days left, it's anybody's race. It's just a question of who wants it.

No movement in the Sixes, so for now Samwell Drakhyr's Deep Blue Yonder sits in the front row. But will it last?

CMDR Jak still dominates the illegal Nerve Gas trade. With only two days left, has he already clinched a first-place finish?

And finally, I'm hearing a lot of talk about Cookiehole. Whispered fears of ungodly speed and inhuman piloting skills, of iron-clad first place times going up in a puff of heavenly, fresh-baked oven made cookie scented goodness. But we just haven't seen it in this race. All I know is that I'm in 8th place, and Cookiehole is languishing down in pre-flight staging, taking up three whole spaces. Anyone afraid of the big bad Cookie is just haulin' biowaste. Yep, a whoooole lot of talk, not a lot of action... 'Tis a shame. :D

Welp, guess there's nothing left for me to do but to crack this whole thing wide open. 7th place or bust. Furrycat, I'm coming for you!

For the record, at 19:30:30 yesterday I broke the 1000 s time limit in the T9-class. Unfortunately I got 6.36 pps lower than Bruski's new time, so it may not be submitted.
But I'm in a desperate need of something to brag about right now.

Edit: It looks like the profit on my route is beginning to drop. Not good.

Moooooo!!! The mid-table position is mine once again. I can sleep easy in my bed.

Errrr, so all this competing in your own race thing .... that's acceptable now in 3303 is it? Honestly, in this day and age I find it hard to keep up with what's allowed and what isn't. :p

P.S. Candlelight club was ace! Turns out, after 3 cocktails, anyone can do the Charleston. Not sure what they'd have made of Bruski's music back in 1920 tho!
