THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

About the Zurara's power situation:

It's not just lights that still have power, from what I've seen in images. I haven't been there yet but my DBX can now clear near 50 lightyears so I'll be heading there now. (I stopped by the GenShip as I posted in the Canonn Thread.)
Compared to the GenShip, which had clearly failing power (Lights flickering, no windows lit up, but a definite "buzz" from parts of the ship, and a working transmitter) but still had some from some source, the Zurara still has a main reactor, just no Hyperspace. The Zurara also probably has solar panels like the GenShip. I'll be heading there soon, but it'll take a loooong trip, because I'll be scanning systems along the way. I'll try to follow the line as closely as possible until I get neart Heart and Soul and then base up in the Heart base before continuing.

Anchor wings, instance saturation, tactical interdictions…

The "fun" of inclusive gameplay.

I going to get flamed for this, but: that is exactly how to make an event exclusively for an inner circle of favored players. Nothing wrong with that, it's just the contrary of what the organizers are constantly claiming that they want to do.

Unless there is something more planed, but I doubt it. Mere mortals can stand on the sidelines and talk a bit about the event - that's fun too. (It really is, I'm enjoying it.)

To be fair, I don't think it's the organizers who are making the event exclusive - that seems to be more player-driven.
It's also pretty much unavoidable, given both the game architecture and human nature.

EDIT:
How about a "March against the cult of personality" in Sol (or whatever endpoint that Salomé event has).
Every protester comes with a Sidewinder or Hauler since we are all just normal CMDRs.

Let's peacefully protest
against secret organizations
against cult of personality
against the privileged not considering how their actions affect the masses

for information
for peace
for freedom

(drum circles and patchouli purely optional ;) )

Sounds good - although I'd prefer it if patchouli wasn't permitted.
Am I allowed to show up in an Adder?

I know of a group that aligns perfectly with your feelings.

“Citizens of the Empire, Peoples of the Federation, the Alliance and those from the Independent worlds. I call out to you at a time of great galactic turmoil.
Our great organisations have a bloody history, but we had achieved a relative peace; an understanding between the Empire, the Federation and the Alliance.
But now our leaders have fallen to fighting and squabbling over territory, waging petty wars, wasting lives and resources, setting sibling against sibling, parent against child… and for what? A few lines on a chart; gains and successes that are wiped out within days. Thousands have already died in the name of these Powers.
Surely humanity is better than this? Can we not build a stronger future, one that we can all be proud of? Can we not choose peace?
Our peoples all suffer under their leadership. I know there are many of you who desire peace and would take a stand against this infighting. Who no longer wish to be pawns in their game.
You know me. I was once a Senator of the Empire. I released my home-world from the blight of those that would subdue it, now I would see all people free from manipulation and exploitation.
I call for those who would resist the powers; the lone-wolf fighters, those who have lost their home-worlds, the disaffected, those just trying to make a living in the void and feel forced to take a side, those who see the false promises and futility of supporting these people and to all who have suffered at their deeds. Those who wished our history might unfold… another way.
Know there are those who care about your peril, that would show concern for your losses and who share your fears for the future.
Now is the time. Show the void there is an alternative to the constant Pyrrhic ‘victories’ we endure week after week as systems are taken and lost at the whim of those who care nothing for the plight of those affected.
Fight for freedom, fight for peace and fight for a stable and prosperous future for your children and your children’s children.
Join us. Become a child of Raxxla.”

Am I allowed to show up in an Adder?

Awww, Iceberg in the shop again?

I kinda really hope everyone's expectation for a Fox Hunt Gankfest gets a shock Sat at 18:00.

I released my home-world from the blight of those that would subdue it,

Abandoned her homeworld to Admiral Patreus, actually.
Still, at least she didn't nuke the 'blight' like her daddy did.

now I would see all people free from manipulation and exploitation.

Coming out against slavery?
That, I can actually get behind.

Fight for freedom, fight for peace and fight for a stable and prosperous future for your children and your children’s children.

It always comes down to fighting with Salome.
Anyone who claims to be 'fight for peace' is lying.

Show the void there is an alternative to the constant Pyrrhic ‘victories’

Somebody doesn't know what 'pyrrhic' means.

With regards to the generation ship, why all this talk of nukes? Is there not a perfectly good star in the middle of the system?

Her first draught of that speech went as follows: "It woz Patreus wot dun it. E's ded rotten E' iz. Peeps shud do im over dead proper like an den we wudn't ave any probs."
Evidently it has been revised somewhat. :D

You are probably right about the player-driven part.

Maybe we should restrict patchouli to ships with high-tech air filtering and mark ships with patchouli as "olfactory threat level 5".

You can join with an Adder, but be careful "They" might consider an Adder a threat. I don't want to give "Them" an excuse to open fire on peaceful protesters.

So, not Sol (or Achenar, Alioth, etc).
I'm still pinning my hopes on Ishtar - or at least somewhere with a Greek Myth theme.

Can't rep, so +1

I'm expecting somewhere close to Barnard's Loop. I had a quick jaunt to the asteroid bases in Witch head and Orion nebulae recently. The one in Orion has a shipyard and outfitting*, but Witch Head doesn't.

However, I did notice that. 46 Eridani is about as far from the bubble as it is the Orion Nebula.

*Shipping time is 3hr42 from Shinrarta and about 3hr12 from a system on the nearer edge of the bubble.

From the FAQ on Drew's site:

'will be attempting to reach an unconfirmed destination in the heart of the core worlds (the bubble)'

So, not Barnard's Loop.

There's that 'heart' again. Cor Caroli system it is.

The event will be like lottery, due to the instancing and limited number of players in one instance. Possible outcomes:

1. Instance full of Salome supporters, without opposition or small opposition.
2. Same as 1. but switched roles.
3. Balanced instance (probability nearing zero)
4. Disconnections everywhere due to the load on the servers.
5. All other instances - all hell will break loose. :)

In case of 1.or 2. and 4. the result will be very salty. ;)

Maybe there will be made some tweaks server side by FD, and for this event, the number of cmdrs in one instance will be increased.

So we still don't know where the event will be. That is kind of sad.

Well... I'll keep my Clipper on standby. Can't be too far from my position.

Are you starting a pool; What odds will you give for a bet of 10 million credits worth of gold on 4? :D

Oh, I'm sure Rebecca "took the long way round". The Reorte/Riedquat line doesn't necessarily indicate a route ... it points to the destination. She probably contrived the R/R line after having located the Zarura. If the Zarura had been located somewhere else she would probably have picked two different systems to point the way.

I was always hoping the Reorte/Riedquat line was more than a general direction to the Formidine Rift. Doing a little math, the Zurara less than 113.9 light years from the RR line. I updated an earlier plot to give some perspective.

First plot is looking at X-Z plane (Galactic plane)

Second plot is the X-Y plane

Dang I didn't even think about the servers. Bet they'll keel over on Saturday night like they did over Easter weekend. Maybe playing but avoiding the event isn't such a smart idea either. Maybe I might have to go outside! :(
