#support3rdparty - Why we temporarily shut down our sites.

Dear Fdev

- don't seem like these guys are asking for much here, and they certainly provide a lot of us with extremely useful resources for playing Elite Dangerous or enhancing the playing experience.

  • I use eddb.io probably 10-20 times during a day of playing Elite - as a Fuelrat I even use this for many of my client to locate nearby places they can obtain fuel scoop or similar.
  • I use Inara.cz at least a couple of times daily, usually for engineers related information.
  • I use Coriolis at least daily, for sharing ship builds with my fellow cmdr's. or to quickly look up some module capacity of a certain ship.
  • I use the EDDB/EDSM services via ED Discovery 100% of the time I'm in Elite, which greatly enhanced my game experience on so many fronts.

Without your 3rd party developers - Elite Dangerous is missing out! - support them! Please!

An API was promised by FD at the beginning, and there were threads asking what people would like implemented. Then it was quietly dropped and I haven't seen anything about it since.

I fully support the stance of the third-party developers. I have used several of the sites before, and they have helped me. While not a daily user, I'd hate to see these sites disappear; it would make the E: D universe feel a lot smaller.

And here I thought we were getting somewhere

Just popping in to add my small voice of support. The scale of this game is too large to do without the invaluable work of 3rd party tools. What depth the game has is hard enough to find with our enthousiastic 3rd party developers, without them I'd surely give up. Too bad this started on rare day of leisure time, I'll probably have to find some other game to pass my day [where is it]...

I hope frontier listens and is able to step up to the plate!

I use a lot of third party apps and do think FDev should support third party devs more but I'm not sure if a general strike is going to do anything. That being said, I do hope you guys get a better line of communication open.

so your trying to get something from frontier, and in order to get it your taking away from the people that use your services so they become your voice.

im thinking this was the plan from the beggining

As a new player a must admit that all those tools are really necessary.

Every time I need to do something in game, I have to go to those external webs. It are a "you must" to play this game.

I'm really lost without them. Particurally about finding modules to buy, new faction players to join, what is the most welthy trading route, what stations have the service I need or what systems have the government and population I'm looking for... among others.

I'm really thankful to these people who make the game much more accesible to all of us.

Frontier, you should hear them.

I respectfully support this action. The tools are invaluable in making Elite a great experience for the players.

Replace the docking computer (1 ton... are they from 1956?)

In September 1956 IBM launched the 305 RAMAC, the first computer with a hard disk drive (HDD). The HDD weighed over a ton and stored 5MB of data.

Our ships should be able to maintain all the information we collect from each station visited, system scanned, aliened probed or traded with other commanders. Frontier shouldn't be forced to allow third parties access, they should provide the tools within the game GUI. Re-purpose the Power Play screens and give us access to real useful information to play the game.

I cannot support this argument.

3rd party sites are just that.. 3rd party. FD never asked you all to make them, you took that upon yourself, and then expect a discrete entity to support your efforts with some psudo strike. Im not at FD, im at all you 3rd party holyer than thou deverlopers.

Childish and immature effort to garner symnpathy... you just lost some.

Except Braben told us to use those sites instead of adding these tools into the game itself.

These sites make it playing the game so much easier, and none of the functionality is anything that wouldn't be available in the world of Elite- come on Devs, support the little guys who support you!

Exactly that. That's what we aim for because obviously none uf us gets paid.

True, it's a labor of love. But if more of us donated, it might help too. I know that Inara has a Paypal link and I've used it. Will do so again after it's back up. I don't know if eddb has one, but I'll look. I use Inara on a regular basis, so they're my obvious favorite.

Noooooo! I spend at least 50% of my time on Elite using Inara, EDDB and Coriolis.

These sites fill a hole that the game simply doesn't provide. I use Inara for Engineering, just so I know what materials I need for an upgrade without taking my 15 Ly tank across the galaxy to find out I am missing something. I use EDDB for various things such as locating ships and modules as the game fails to list what sells what where. And I use Coriolis as a fitting tool as the one in game doesn't contain all the important stats/figures and you have to purchase stuff before you can see if it fits together nicely.

There are a few other tools I use, but these 3 are the essential tools that I need to have access to, to enjoy and play this game. I am literally lost right now. I needed Inara to find out what I needed for Engineer related stuff for this event. :(
