Gtx 1080 ti Elite Dangerous

Sorry not explained very well - by depth of field I meant depth of perception - the increased clarity gives a better sense of volume. Does anyone agree?

Absolutely. In space it is noticible, but on planets it is increasing the sense of distance by a huge amount. And with shadows on ultra, the depths and contrast is increased even more... Descending into a deep crater can quite scary now. I never enjoyed flying near planets more than with the new gfx card. I really hope for some landable atmospheric worlds in 2.4 or gas giants...

Which setting exactly is that, in ED ?

I am very tempted by an Aorus extreme, and the thing I'm perfectly happy with an ss level of 1.3.
Actually I'm happy with my current settings of .65 SS and HMD Q of 1.75.
Should equate to something like 1.1375 x.
I just want 'good enough' and if it would be I could skip volta instead :S

Picked me up one of the orange and white gigabyte versions of this card. It is in fact a beast of a card. VR ultra in ED with 1.5 SS doesn't seem to stress it. Locked at 90 fps almost all the time. I also have a 4k display which was the main reason I got it. Had a 980 ti before which I was happy with for VR, but it would bog at 4k if you cranked settings up too far. Fallout 4 would run 40 fps on medium.

Did some tests yesterday and the only negative thing with ASW is the disturbance in Hud lines. Nothing else. The sense of depth and immersion is exactly the same. So I will keep it on with Ultra settings and HMD at 2.0 its perfect.

I have to say i have been really impressed with the latest incarnation of Spacewarp, the early releases were a bit sketchy (i used to turn it off and use Timewarp because Spacewarp would cause stalls when it transitioned on a few games) but its pretty smooth sailing now.

Have you seen the difference between HMD 1.5 and 2.0 ?

Yes absolutely. Look at right HUD panel RHS. The press escape and switch between the two and you see that with 2 the hud lines are more stable less crawling.

I would hope so - but with HMD 2.0 he will see a lot of ASW artifacting such as those he discribed in his post regarding the HUD lines. Clearly he is not getting a solid 90FPS using HMD 2.0 / Ultra hence the artifacting, but at least he is happy with those settings. Personally I installed a GTX1080Ti to get rid of those ASW artifacts and that it did at SS1.5 with everything mostly set on high.

Using HMD 2.0 or SS 2.0 with high or ultra settings and obtaining 90FPS in all areas of the game is just not possible at this time in VR. Anyone using those settings will have a heavy reliance on ASW.

True. Hmd 2 is not possible without asw. But the only disturbance i get is the hud lines and its only slighly noticable when in the srv. So its a easy choice for me

Asw is probably the only reason I can play at present.
One thing I notice is even though ASW is active the amount of artefacting can vary greatly.
My best guess, is how much headroom is left while it is throttling affects how much error correction it's able to apply.

So there are plenty of cases where ASW is active, and it is almost impossible to tell the difference between native 90 and 45.
If your PC is maxed out even while throttling it becomes a garbled, yak inducing mess.

And I have succumbed and ordered an msi 1080ti gaming x.
I went for this because honestly it was in stock, and I will probably have it in two days or less, not "maybe in a month or two".

nice. let us know how it performs. Last week i said I will skip the Ti, today I am looking also at the MSI Gaming X.

1080 Ti is, unfortunately, a minimum if you wanna play at 90fps without going down to low or medium with details for most games.

Been trying really hard to not get this as well, but the thought of possibly having a cz fight without having ASW artefacts haunts my dreams.

Yeah, that's almost what I'm thinking as well, atm shadows are low, and most settings at medium.
I wish I can bump shadow quality up a fair bit, and if I can do that I'm happy to keep my ss of 0.65 hmd quality of 1.75.

Worst case scenario I can use the 45 day return policy.

Hello everybody¡¡¡.

The last year I had a Gigabyte Gaming G1 OC 970, a Gigabyte Gaming G1 OC 980ti, a Gigabyte Gaming G1 OC 1080, and the last week I bougth a MSI GAMING X 1080 TI. I only change my GPU to obtain the maximun performance in my CV1 with Elite dangerous, I bought the last new GPUs and I did a log study with a lot of variations about the performance of this GPUs. I could show them in detail. But for a rapid conclusión is if you are under a 980ti (970 to 1070) and you want the best performance the best option for me now is a good second hand 1080 (I sold my Gigabyte 1080 G1 OC for 400 Euros to buy my new MSI 1080ti)
If you are interesting I could show all the data about fps, SS in debugtool and SS in game, with and without ASW, and of course, graphic quality.

I am interested :)
but most interested in the changes from 1080 to 1080Ti, not in numbers but in "how you feel about it"
