The full game planned for Q4 2014

I wonder if Q4 this year is too early, considering the huge amount of content that still needs to be added, lots of ships, background simulation, law, missions generation, reputations...

I am pretty sure that the feature complete Version, the 1.0 Elite Dangerous, will be released somewhat in 2015. I cant imagine 2014 tbh.

This is correct. As long as they holding back a HUGE amount of content release cant be this year. Or maybe they cut out a bit chunk of the promissed content.

One hint are the space stations : At the moment only one Version is ready, the station that they have added isnt ready yet (it have the interior of the first station). So : If they have the most parts of the parts ready, WHY they giving us a pre-alpha Version of a station? Because they didnt have that much content ready as many of you think.

For me ED is still an Pre-Alpha, sooo many things are still missing. We will entering Standard Beta in 3 Weeks (!) and i cant imagine that they will add 10 new Spaceships (they promissed us 25!), 3 new Space Stations, the Background Simulation and/or the Mission symstem. Even THIS Features where only 50% of the promissed content. No, NEVER they will release the 1.0 Version of ED this year. This will be a Beta Run until Summer 2015. Mark my words!

Or they have it done, but are sitting on it until closer to the release !?! There is already an awful lot of stuff announced for B1, so I would suspect they are sitting on a lot of stuff....

Believe me, i hope you are right, but :

Its smarter to show everything they have, because this would impress ppl out there much more, wich would help to convince them to buy the game. Why holding back material that could bring new customers? Sorry, but this makes no sense.

I am member of many Kickstarter Projects and Early Acces Games, i have seen this many times now. Wasteland 2 was supossed to be released Oktober 2013. About 4 weeks before release they said : "Ok we will enter Beta now... hafe fun."

The new release Date for Wasteland 2 is August... 2014.

I completely disagree.

Better advertise when game is nearing completion than now, when it is still work in progress and many features missing. Not to mention Premium Beta price.

You answered your own question. Wasteland 2 is great example. Better to build all the hype and wow factor for release, not for beta.
.., 3 new Space Stations,...
Have i missed something..do we get 5 different station types?

Look at the past 2 Newsletters... They have shown us some painted Sidewinders and (pretty looking) new sun flare effects, thats all. And we are 3 week before beta starts!

I fear beta would be : 2 more ships, 5 more systems, a basic, very simple background simulation, a rudimentary mission system and a few gameplay changes here and there, thats all.

I cant see the reason why holding back much more awesome and fresh stuff... Tbh : If i where a person that PLAN to buy elite somewhat in the new future i would say : "bummer, again nohting new. Ok, i will wait for the final release!"

The risk is high that this potential customer will NOT buy ED at release. It would be much smarter to "catch" such customers now.

As i said : They havent much more to show at the moment. And if this is true : No release 2014, NEVER.

Even Frontier/FFE had more Station Types.

Already confirmed for Beta 1 are comms, police system, groups and fuel. We may get more.

I would be very very surprised if we would get missions in Beta 1. I think it will be one of the last things they add.

Ok, thats even less... laughable to think that we will play a feature complete ED by the end of this year. To be honest : At the moment i would warn friends to enter the Beta stage or even buy the game NOW, becauses the risk that this would be shovelware is higher then i ever expected.

I regret that i have given them 120€. The game is great so far, but i realy have fear that we will get the content (Full Release + 1st + 2nd Expansion) that we have BOUGHT never or maybe in 3 - 4 years.

The newsletter states otherwise and thats coming directly from FD. Remember this game is procedurally generated, this allows them to focus on testing certain aspects and then when those procedures are ironed out they can be applied to the rest of the game universe. We are currently testing a lot of the non procedural parts of the game. I feel that the game can be ready and am confident that FD will once again have everyone in awe when they unlock the stuff thats currently ready just not needed for testing.

Ramireza - they don't have that much more things to add to the game. It's current only 12th July. Still time to release it this year.

Add to that, stations will be procedurally generated as if they were built from space lego blocks. That'd allow to many different configs. Chill, bro, I mean "Ramireza".

Lots of negativity!!!

David Braben himself has pointed to a release this year and when I pressed Michael Brookes he said probably this year with the emphasis being positive. If he was thinking not this year then his demeanour would have been very different.

And to the naysayers, don't forget, games developers dont give out any kind of release schedule unless they are pretty confident that they can meet it.

I really am not too worried either way, even if it slides into next year, having a blast now and the constant excitement of incremental updates with new game changing features and improvements is like a year of christmases :D

I cant see the reason why holding back much more awesome and fresh stuff...

The reason could be that they are focused on testing stuff, making optimizations, etc. In other words actually making the game and not hyping(selling) it? And testing doesn't work so well if you put in tons of new features before you test the stuff that's in now? Just a guess.

We know the build for E3 was ready and went through QA probably weeks before they took it there and is the build we are playing now which is now weeks old,

I assume that Beta was announced as soon as that had passed QA as they wouldn't want to put a date down and then have to slip.

So I expect that FD are letting us test the bits they need us to test and I would expect that the internal build in the office to be a lot further on than a lot of people suspect.

A Q4 release is very much possible at the moment otherwise FD wouldn't have said so in the last newsletter and I would expect now only major unexpected bugs to derail it.

If it's not going to be ready for release by the end of the year as Mr. Braben says then I'll believe it when I see it. It wouldn't matter to me if it were late, anyway. Mr. Braben has said several times that he wants to make sure Frontier gets one group of things done before they move on to the next. Seeing as how they've delivered good quality so far, I'm inclined to cut them some slack if they happen to stumble a bit. Surely, they're hoping for release before Christmas, Boxing Day, et al., for obvious reasons but I won't fault them if it doesn't happen because I strongly believe good things are coming.

As i said, inxile did the same with Wasteland 2, also Larian with Divinity Original Sin. Both Games where anounced for Oktober 2013 and in August this where the official release dates for this Games.

Finaly Divinty was release 07/2014 (with content cut out) and Wasteland 2 will maybe released this August, 10 month after the "official" release date.

This official date means nothing to me, sorry.
