THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

How many people were in the group that stole the meta alloys?

I bet if all four characters got killed during the 29th live event, Luko would have appeared at the destination and activated the comms beacons!

I've just been posting on MassiveD's thread where he's bashing Drew and Frontier for this all being rigged from the start. So much disinformation flying round, such a shame.

Yeah this is sad. Actually it's just stupid. I hope Drew will not let the peanuts get him down.

One more thing about death of Salome. CMDR Porry Hatter had 2 FSD interdictors. Was it 1 wide arc and 1 long range?
Can they be stacked, or 2 of them will make 1 super-interdictor (both improvements working at once)?

Not quite, IIRC. The Duvals weren't against female assisted reproduction ... they simply went to great lengths to ensure that no female children were born to the Duval line. I think there is more detailed information in one of the the short stories in Tales From the Frontier ... but my copy is at home so I can't look up the reference right now.

As I said it's probably been a retcon on this part, but the Duvals did not associate with women at all.

Hengist was a liberal. He allowed women in the palace for the first time:

'COURT NEWS 2
J.F.

After many years in which women were not welcome within the precincts of the Imperial Palace, His Majesty has decided that he will permit their presence on a day-to-day basis in purely decorative roles. The theatre which once was used solely for performances of the Ais dances of Prono has been converted with shopping malls, sandwich bars and sewing rooms to make the invited females feel at home.

Palace sources tell us that his Majesty often strolls through the theatre incognito in order to listen to the amusing prattle of his unsuspecting guests and their freemartin escorts. Ignorant journals elsewhere have suggested that this is a prelude to the return by our Sovereign Leader to the old-fashioned female-based systems of reproduction. This is not so. We have abandoned the old unhygenic and random ways for ever. His Imperial Majesty is merely demonstrating in his kindly way that he finds all of his subjects equally valuable, regardless of gender.'

Are we allowed to discuss who killed Rebecca? :p
Sorry, just returning the thread to it's sombre, slow placed hiding place of wild speculation, crazy theories and smart-alec comments ;)

Think Smart Alec has set up his own thread to talk the PvP talk

(Just rambling through the thread over breakfast)

- - - Updated - - -

FRONT PAGE UPDATED with a few links to messages from Drew about the event on the 29th.

Now, can we PLEASE return this thread to it's sombre, slow placed hiding place of wild speculation and crazy theories, and stop going on about who killed who.....

If you want to talk further about events on the 29th, and the player groups involved, please choose one of the MANY Salome event posts in Dangerous Discussions. Please reserve this thread for related mysteries. What's still out in the rift, who is behind it all, and where we can focus our attention next. I don't want to get a mod in here again......!

I will add more detailed summaries to the front page when relevant parties come forward with concise versions of events from their viewpoints.

Zach, I think you need to do exactly that, & it's what I requested yesterday. We have always kept PvP and roleplay out of this thread. The last 60 or more pages are nothing to do with any mysteries. They are PvP-related and should be moved to a separate dedicated thread. Your call has fallen on deaf ears and the ranting continues below.

Ok what's the news on Farsight Expedition base out in Soul (?) Anyone found a settlement or POI since 2.3 dropped? Any beacons around Zurara? Cmon folks wake up! Galaxy to save here!

No beacons around Zurara, I was out there Wednesday. Ive also checked a few terraformables that I came across & likewise no beacons. So I now think they are storytelling & don't exist in game.

<----I never took mine off for a second.

Seriously folks, it's starting to smell a little off... :D

Still waiting for when we get them in Commander Creator ;) ;), FD...

AND facial hair colour that matches the balding bits.

Based on how that sentence alone sounds in 2017 ... I could certainly see why Frontier might want to distance themselves from it. Slavery is one thing. Misogyny? Nope.

I thought the heist in Maia was where she reappeared?
Then a signal was intercepted in Col 70 and we all assumed it was Salome and her gang... where is Luko by the way?

I think Maia/Merope will be where FD develop their storyline, as for Drew...?

Personally I am going to investigate around that odd Guardian base all on its lonesome out toward Jaques, it just looks odd out there.

And always look in the opposite direction to where the "magician" is pointing, ie Merope/Maia...(OK pass the tinfoil)

I suspect Luko may have been killed infiltrating Col70.

I've been wondering about that lonesome Guardian base. We have assumed that the Guardian bubble we found was possibly the original, or a secondary bubble with the original out in the locked region to the East. But how about if we have the direction wrong, and that single Guardian base is a stoppoff point when the exiles escaped from their homeworld bubble and it is actually in the other direction, which could make the Colonia location even more interesting. I think there's another locked region out in that direction.

As I approach the Gap it occurs to me that I have no idea where to start looking for the Mega Ship. I guess maybe a few hundred lys past where the Feddies sent us out the for the Exploration Data CG (which is where my Gap bookmark comes from). Unless anyone else has any suggestions?

Neat! Thanks.

Check out the Zurara location from the first page summary

Yes, it does seem out of place doesn't it?

Lots going on in every other direction, then this lone little base (unless there is more to find out there...)
I intend to scoot out there in the next few days and have a look around.
And, as you have said...maybe the Guardians kept heading out that way?

If I find any [alien] send many biscuits.... (I have mucho Tin Foil at the ready...)

It makes a lot more sense from quite a few standpoints to be located near the center of the Galaxy. The resources are greater, the Stars are more numerous (more chance of life developing), and more of the star types any race would prefer. It's one of the things that humanity moving into the rift makes no real sense, it's as if we were looking to move into a desert (starwise). The center has more to offer in every way.
And yes, there is a locked off area, but I can't really point it out at the moment, I think it's quite a large one.

I'll be buying a Conda sometime this week, and I'm going to nosy around that area. It's porbably a wide goose chase, but what the heck.

HI I only found 6 listening posts in Teorge, it was during the event, maybe I was tired, then I went to tionisla and found graveyard tourist spot. Did we learn anythimg new, what was ragazza? Shame no graveyard at tionisla, I thought Tianve, home of Rebecca would be final stop.
Sometime back I found a lost ship marker in the bubble, been meaning to check it out more...but where to look? I have it bookmarked but each system is huge for random flyby.

By looking at how far the Zurara was found from the Rift Beacons, I guess it would be the same in the other locations. The beacon areas are probably only relay stations to allow communication or such and the planed locations for the exodus are much farer away.

drew - the community did not decide anything. It was a few individual players, who have never seen themselves as part of this community, who did what they always do - shoot hollow squares.

It's your decision, and it feels pretty cheap that you blame this decision on us now.

If you really want to put the action of this weekend into your book, properly alter the entire galaxy to be an anarchist murderhobo hell where crime doesn't matter, the police is unable to do anything and you might be attacked and killed for no reason anywhere. Not by pirates, but by reavers or whatever.

Everything else would be cherry picking.

Unlike the case of the Formidine Rift where Rebecca found the Mega Ship first and left hints (edge of the Galactic arm and the Reorte Riedquat line) we have nothing to go on. It took years of looking in the Rift before we rediscovered the location and even then it took Drew sticking us with a cattle prod via the latest round of GalNet hints.
True - but it was allegedly discoverable before then based on clues that we missed (or misinterpreted).

Now that we know where the Zurara is and what it was doing, can other signs of that be found nearby (TFCs that say "being terraformed" rather than "candidate" would be my favourite theory for that, as a subtle clue that even someone DSSing the relevant planets in the first place might miss), then use that to look for the other expeditions?

I haven't looked and not logged on to check but was the Zurara bubble side of the Rift bases or Rim side?

As to Conflux and Gap, I doubt we have other megaship wrecks there. The plan was to destroy the ships and evidence and it seems unlikely that they failed all 3 times.

I think we only have 2 main things to look in to which is how to get into the Col 70 permit bubble and the area they were actually scouting and dropping terraform packages in the rift. Once we have a rift location in relation to the bases there we can extrapolate a search area in conflux and Gap, but it would be more difficult there.

For guardians, I still think their genetic tech is linked to barnacles and other lifeforms that seem linked to Nebulas for life on otherwise barren worlds so we will often find signs in nebula areas, and I suspect Thargoids are their creations with some inherited tech.

I also suspect inra, the powers and some major corporations have been involved in reverse engineering that tech also. In fact our current FSD tech likely came from that.

So I think guardians will lead to new tech or at least Engineers mods and the history of Thargoids. Col 70 will lead to corporation work reverse engineering and secret fleet building, the rift, gap and conflux will lead to intended or existing long range mini bubbles, and they will all lead to Thargoids or other aliens.

That's my tinfoil moment, and can only see Col 70 sector and working out where Zurara dropped its packages as being the only clues we can follow while leaving those Cannon people to sort the guardians connection, and hope FD have already put what we are trying to find in game.

As an aside, finding the rest of the generation ships may be fun and could open up something new although it is only looking like the dead ones so far.

And please, refer not to TDC (The Dead Chick); we sure love our acronyms too.

I prefer TDT - the dead terrorist. I want to be respectful to women and Salomé being a woman had noting to do with her actions.

… Cmon folks wake up! Galaxy to save here!

I'm trying to do that for months now.

The galaxy appears to be full of paranoid conspiracy theorists and entitled crybabies.
Let it burn :D

How about let them burn and save the galaxy?

Based on how that sentence alone sounds in 2017 ... I could certainly see why Frontier might want to distance themselves from it. Slavery is one thing. Misogyny? Nope.

Depends on how the players are intended to feel/think about the Empire. "No females allowed" is, in my opinion, a good way to achieve a certain level of dislike in 2017.
A society based on non-sexual reproduction is not a new idea for Sci-Fi, such a society based on males is rather rare. I like that.

But I agree on, what I think is the undercurrent of your comment: apparently slavery is OK and misogyny is not for players in 2017.

I suspect Luko may have been killed infiltrating Col70.

Hasn't there been a distress call from an old Cobra. Could have been Luko's Cobra MkI. He might be dead already or we get a nice chapter about his rescue in Col70.

HI I only found 6 listening posts in Teorge, …

I'll check my bookmarks. Will take a while.

Random thoughts and questions:
Can someone post the route the 4 protagonists took from Eridiani 46?

I'm playing around with the idea that the 3 Dynasty destinations are for the three superpowers. (Formidin for Empire, Hawking's Gap for alliance, Conflux for Federation) - maybe drawing lines from their home systems to the main beacons of those areas could reveal the missing mega-ships?
(I'm trapped in the bubble for some time as I have to finish unrelated business)

Your not the only one. Trying to free my home system from a Federal Corporate invasion back to Independent before I'm heading back out.

In Drew's Oolite stories "RAGAZZA" was the name that the Thargoids called Rebecca by.
