THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

I'd like to thank you for your contributions. I like the idea of getting a Rifters decal in the game. If that can be arranged, I hope some of you wear it with pride. You all had a hand in this mystery and the way it unfolded.

Once again, thank you for being brave enough to organise this. I did enjoy being part of whole Formidine Rift mistery a lot so kudos :)

(my small pinch of salt, you told me months ago to engineer my ship because I will need it, and at the end I needed it to sit in Chock for two hours so you better make sure I will get my decal! :) )

Now I really really want to read the book as soon as possible :)

My commiserations on your loss.

It must feel somewhat strange as the author who created a character to have that character killed off, not by your own creative decision, but by your audience.

One question - were any of the actual core wings recording the action and will any of that come to light later on? I did wonder why the main characters weren't streaming. The obvious reason is for security, but since they seemed to allow most people onto their friends lists, I'm not sure that just streaming would have made it any different.

We didn't fly with him. He was in open mode.

Cheers,

Drew.

I think Salomè and CoR should have spoken out in game against KOS orders and taken oversight of PAC and its membership a bit more, as for me they went to bed with the devil and got what they deserved for that and her legacy is tarnished accordingly.

But that said, you as Drew were in a bit of an impossible position on being inclusive, PAC was trying to organise an army and were fixed on an outcome only (which is therefore funny that it failed) and CoR doesn't have the size or experience in this area of play to oversee everything. And all of this in a game with RL on top it was inevitable that things would go wrong and mistakes with the benefit of hindsight would be made.

I can recognise that while in RP mode taking the more negative view.

But on the plus, if another lead picks up the batton (and I don't mean our friendly Hussar) you can within the storyline exclude known enemies from your friends list now. There may still be spies getting in, but they can hardly raise a reasonable complaint for an obvious reaction to betrayal and using that function against a character. That's just part of story evolution as they picked their side.

I am a little bit disapointed that the logs found in the Teorge system don't give us much answers beside from confirming something we already guessed. For me it raises the following questions:

What is the connection between the Teorge System and "the old law"?

Who are "they" and why did Rebecca not gave us a name? If she was part of "them" she should know or is this something which should be obvious for those knowing the old lore?

INRA looks like the best option for "them" to me.

Is the old lore still cannon?

(oh, and nice sam vimes avatar, I'm a fan of Pterry myself.)

Ok, but why not saying INRA in the logs?
The problem is, I currently feel a little bit like after watching the last episode of "lost". There are a lot of open questions but at the same time I get the feeling that the authors consider everything answered... :O

Think it's not over yet, more the season cliffhanger

Teorge is mentioned in "The Dark Wheel" - the book that came with the original Elite, which would be "the old lore". So "The Dark Wheel" is an obvious candidate for the organisation. They've been mentioned in connection with this mystery before, too, with the items left behind on the earlier disappearance of Kahina Loren.
(In the "old definitely not lore" of Mutabilis at least some of the parallel-universe Rebeccas were canonically members of it, too)

INRA certainly fits some of the description and some of the methods they've used fit very well with how they were portrayed in the fiction that came with FFE (old lore again) - but I really can't imagine Rebecca getting involved with them in the first place. I wouldn't be *surprised* if it was them - and I certainly won't be surprised if they have their own part to play in the story - but I don't think it fits quite as well for this particular clue.

Presumably the organisation itself is not mentioned by name because they name-search on mysteriousbeacons.galnet
