THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Whatever the disappointments and stuff. I am damn glad to have been a part of something. So thanks for that Drew.
It was a sad ending personally, especially after the glory we had chasing off Patreus in his silly cruiser a while back :)

(Speaking as just a player here, I kind of like the conspiracy angle, not that you set it up, but that there was an element in PAC that wanted her dead and it's those behind the Kill on Sight thing against us COR pilots).

The only bad playing experience is one that doesn't affect you in some way, emotionally.

What I don't get is, (and I say this as someone who has seen none of the footage of the event, etc), how do we know she died when her ship was destroyed - we don't die when our ships are destroyed...

no one else was bothered in the slightest for going to an area the superpowers were supposedly trying to keep things secret - all others could come and go as they pleased. Highly unlikely that the three superpowers - or whomever is involved - would allow roaming explorers to go unmolested if they were serious about protecting this supposed big secret.

Oddly enough, a certain Drew Carnegie asks that very question in the book. ;)

That was a creative decision on my part, to raise the stakes. There is no ambiguity on her death. She is gone.

Cheers,

Drew.

So you can confirm that the Escape Pod handover with Yuri had nothing to do with her Death?

(Playing Devils Advocate)

;-)

It was Hassan who was flying with her and will return in season 3 a more serious character determined to continue her legacy for the good of humanity.

Or it's a tease.

Or nothing.

Thanks for your input.

I'm assuming this is confirmation that the Rift mystery is now fully completed.

I've stated what my personal gripes are - and the story is not the issue. The problem I see is that while you (Drew Wagar) have been trying to provide content and 'lore' for Elite, Frontier have failed - in my opinion - to fully support the content you have written about (as well as others) in the actual game itself. Had the Formidine Rift been a real place of mystery, strange happenings - almost like the Bermuda Triangle - all would have been well and good. Most all Rifters might have experienced some chance encounter or phenomenon - whatever (use some imagination Frontier) - while searching for the primary objective. As it is, most all came away with nothing - except to be told (in the messages) that no one asked for individuals to go out searching that far (thanks a bunch!).

I'd also hazard a guess that despite the messages saying that beacons had been dropped by The Zurara around terraformable worlds and Earth-like worlds, that in reality there are no beacons to be found around such planets in or beyond the Rift as they haven't been included in the game (the three sectors mentioned in the logs probably also non-existent currently). I'd be happy to be informed I am wrong about that.

Thanks very much, otherwise.

Just THIS !

Teorge is mentioned in "The Dark Wheel" - the book that came with the original Elite, which would be "the old lore". So "The Dark Wheel" is an obvious candidate for the organisation. They've been mentioned in connection with this mystery before, too, with the items left behind on the earlier disappearance of Kahina Loren.
(In the "old definitely not lore" of Mutabilis at least some of the parallel-universe Rebeccas were canonically members of it, too)

INRA certainly fits some of the description and some of the methods they've used fit very well with how they were portrayed in the fiction that came with FFE (old lore again) - but I really can't imagine Rebecca getting involved with them in the first place. I wouldn't be *surprised* if it was them - and I certainly won't be surprised if they have their own part to play in the story - but I don't think it fits quite as well for this particular clue.

Presumably the organisation itself is not mentioned by name because they name-search on mysteriousbeacons.galnet

All the clues point to the Dark Wheel.

Kahina left the Dark Wheel medallion in Achenar. Where did she get it? She was not an Elite pilot and therefor not a member. Did Rebecca give it to her?

Teorge points squarely at Elyssia Fields. While not an Elite pilot her self, Elyssia made most of the kills Alex Ryder was credited for. Everything Alex knew, she knew.

I think Jason Ryder was killed because he knew what Rebecca and Salomè later learned. He probably had plans to talk about what he had seen on Raxxla.

CEIP, Sirius Corporation and INRA may also be aware of the situation, but I think the Dark Wheel is the key.

I was under the impression there already was a Rifters groupm called "The Formidine Rifters"

Who's "Armoredmeat"?

I don't remember that Cmdr name in the 2 years that I've been participating.

Somehow it doesn't feel right.

The Dark Wheel doesn't look like an organization working for the rich. The whole Dynasty plan looks more like plan from an organization that aimed to get a lot of credits from paranoid rich people. Just like in present day there are business that sell places in luxury bunkers in case of the apocalypse.

If the Dark Wheel is involved I would expect them to have used the Dynasty plan to cover up something else and to get credits and the whole "Illuminati" secret galactic government is just a hoax.

Good, because currently I feel like I've been allowed into the cinema just as the end credits roll on a whodunnit where the main chtr is killed before the big reveal, and there's no plans for a sequel.

Sorry for the salt, but only recently have I found out there was more to the game than the usual run-of-the mill stuff, and you lot were playing the real game. I was sort of hoping I could join you, if only as the guy who cleaned the cigar stubs out of the urinals and cleaned up all the spilt coffee in the canteen. (you could at least put your cups in the sink y'know).

Nah, true Rifters drink from the bottle. Cups are for Canonneers! :D

This has been a good thread with great community spirit. If it is the end of the FRift mystery then I hope we get another to collaborate on!
Just hinting (& requesting politely!!) MB & DB! [yesnod]

IMHO, I don't see why the Formidine Rift would be like the Bermuda Triangle. It is just a normal bit of space, the mystery was the content and we got that the content was an exodus plan. I don't see why we should be seeing UFO's and strange sightings in their. I guess the name "Formidine" created a sense of fear in that place and we started expecting unknown stuff. I understand that it is anti-climatic but well, that's how the story goes.

Right. The reputation and fear of Formidine Rift has been increasing and wide spreading during years of testimonies about ship disappearances and weird phenomenons.
NOT because a Top Secret expedition didn't call back. It's completely inconsistent with the Rift lore. Totally.
No? Then who can explain me why the Gap and Conflux never were seen as dangerous places. They had those expeditions too.
It's so clear for me that FD didn't want or were in lack of crative means to unfoil a TRUE plot around the Rift.
Now. If the FR Mystery is not totally unveiled in terms of 'exotic' and weird phenomenoms...forget my writing.

So the star riders who spend their life chasing comets and living in their home-ship, are considering the possibility of having a cosy comfortable station with lot of Anlian Gin, hostesses and ... a LEADER ???? ...and BEDS ???
LOL !!!! [wacko][wacko][wacko]

A dumb question and some tinfoil thought:

1. Is this document worth investigating?

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...-Strange-Document-found-in-46-Eriudani-System

2. Reading the listening posts in Teorge i noticed the "matching signal" line have some difference
all of them match the others, but log 5 has 1-6 while it should say 1-4, 6-7 to be in line with the others, while log 7 has no "matching" indication at all.
Probably a typo but maybe it's a way to tell that some of the logs have been edited or they are untrue?

3. Tianve has been mentioned in a recent interview and it's part of the old lore (i don't know much of the original game so please help me with that). It could be a system worth investigating.

I'm not necessarily saying it's the Dark Wheel that organized the Dynasty expedition. I'm not even sure they killed Jason Ryder. What I mean is that they have the knowledge.
They knew what was going on, on Raxxla. They knew the Thargoids. They knew the capability of the 'Elyssia line' of Teorge clones.

If someone wanted organize a huge secret project like the Dynasty expedition, they would surely consult the Dark Wheel. I think Rebecca got involved through the Dark Wheel, not INRA.
