The Pirating of Col 70 Sector

I went USS hunting earlier, but they don't spawn too quickly so I only found a couple. I haven't got limpets, so no point in me trying to pirate anyone (never done that before :) ). Currently I'm parked up on a planet that has technetium, as I've run out. Will be SRV prospecting when I'm next on, but after that will be around if anyone wants to wing up and do something. Or join me prospecting for a bit. The planet I landed on has some great mountains and canyons.

I just spent a day and a half flying a combat Corvette around the permit locked systems only to realize there is an asteroid base with a shipyard inside the cordoned off area and only ~400ly from Witch Head.

On the upside, I didn't have to pay to transfer the ship and made seven million in exploration data getting there.

Just arrived and will be logging in and out throughout the evening so say hi if you see me! I'm kitted out for every eventuality so let's see what's out there!

Cmdr Stocko

I'm in system, so if anyone wants to wing up and do something feel free to add me. I'm currently looking for ruthenium on HIP 23759 10A. Haven't found any yet, but as soon as I've got a couple of drops I'll head back towards the base.

I've joined the discord.

"Alright people, listen up! I know you thought you joined a pirate organization but we have to have some kind of structure here. Otherwise we'll just turn into a real band of pirates! Welcome to the Barghest's Operations Deck. The Map on the screen shows our area of Operations. Please study it carefully before any engagements. Our Objective is simple. To blockade the Col 70 Sector from Wreaken Construction and Mining vessels. You are clear to engage any Sirius Navy vessels you encounter, however commanders, do not underestimate them! They may posses technologies we have yet to be allowed ourselves. Our long term goal here is to expose both Wreaken and Sirius Corporation of hiding military and possibly alien in origin technology. A side Objective is to look into MetaDrive Inc, a recent merger with Sirius Corporation puts them in our sights as well. We are to engage any vessels trying to enter or leave the Col 70 Sector. Welcome to the Area of Operations Commanders, I expect great things will occur here!

The Orion Tourist Centre in PMD2009 48 does have a Shipyard. Our supply line to that system must remain open at all costs. Engage any threats to our Operations along that corridor. Threats will be deemed as you see them fit, But a good rule of thumb is Sirius Navy, Wreaken Security Forces, and anyone who points a gun at you! Now, Witchhead Nebula Will be our staging post for everyone on Core-ward Side of the Col 70 Sector. Please note that Xeno Research Group vessels are deemed Non-Threat, Non-Hostile targets as of right now. However, you are still clear to engage any vessels carrying anything unknown in origin!
This concludes our Preliminary Breifings, actual operations are to begin within the coming weeks as we gather more Intel Commanders."

** END TRANSMISSION.

Does anybody know if asteroid bases can expand into other systems? Super curious about that!

Afaik any faction can expand, though the position of those in Witch Head or Orion will make it take a very long while (there may be a hard range limit, not sure).
The first expansion attempt will look for inhabited systems within ~20ly, and obviously fail. Investment will increase the range of the next expansion to 40ly, which will then fail. So on an so forth, until it finally reaches the nearest inhabited system and expands there. I don't know that any faction has ever expanded that far though, but the expansion mechanic as it currently stands has only been in since 2.1. A full expansion cycle pending/active takes ten days, and then the investment cycle, so there's only so far it could seek in a given timeframe.

Edit: and factions do not expand to systems that aren't inhabited, in case that was part of your question.

Edit 2: Not sure if that is intended to be partial, but Col 70 is vastly larger than what the map above displays. It extends a long way below all the little sectors displayed on that map. Scroll the Galmap down (Z-) from basically any named region above, and you'll find more Col 70.

it was intended to be a just general idea of the area, not a super acurate map, for that I would need to work on a 3D model, and for RP purposes thats a bit crazy for now... Maybe in the future I can do something with Unity

Repositioned to the Orion Tourist Centre. Called for the DBX (1m cr tx fee - 3hrs 40 mins). I'll be off doing restock / resupply for a few hours, might grab a drink in the bar. Any questions about the Tourist Centre, post here and I'll answer later.

I'm afraid following ships' wakes is a waste of time. This is Gary:

Gary1.jpg

I answered a distress call in the PMD2009 13 system and fought off Gary's attackers. An Anaconda rescue ship jumped in after I'd destroyed his assailants and gave him some fuel. I then scanned Gary's wake and followed him to the V2543 Orionis system. He then began flying towards the brown dwarf star 85,000ls away. That's odd, why would he fly there, I thought. I'll follow Gary. We eventually reached the star where he dropped out of supercruise:

Gary2.jpg

Now what? There's nothing there except Gary. What's up, man? Oh, right. The exact same script as the distress call from the previous system. Only there's no pirates here. Just Gary, who's clearly bonkers and traumatised, thinking that the pirates are still attacking him. But I also think now that following NPCs will be a waste of time. He doesn't even carry any good cargo for me to steal. Just lots of limpets.

Poor Gary.

I'm also moving my base to Orion Tourist Centre, as it seems better placed (and also has the shipyard :) ). Will be there shortly (did head over last night, but then the E: D servers went dodgy so I gave up) and will call my Courier (and maybe the Python... Not sure though, as it's usually a waste of money!).

May 3rd, 3303 AD, I find myself staring straight at an Unknown Artefact, the first one I have ever seen in person. I've only ever seen pictures and some on Holo-reels from other commanders. Ultimately, I decided to leave him be, as a UA isnt what I am out here searching for, and they are fairly common to get now anyways. It would of been a bit more special if I had found him inside a Wreaken Construction Vessel, but alas I did not.

I still fear that both Wreaken and Sirius Vessels probably have something to suppress their wake signatures from detection. They could even be posing as the locals in both PMD2009 48 and HIP 23579, though that remains to be seen. The PMD2009 system sure is oddly active with Convoys for being a Tourist based faction...

Morning all.

Did a run from HIP 23759 to PMD2009 48 and then into Col 69, aiming for the junction with Col 70, Messier 78, Barnard's Loop and Horsehead to see if there is a way past. I could not find a way past, it appears to be completely blocked. Interestingly I could access Horsehead on the run back, so it isn't a blanket sector block.

Saw a few USS, all data cache. Didn't see a single ship the whole run until back at the populated bases.

Now back at HIP 23759.

So you found a UA near witch head? It seems quite far from where these things have been found so far, isn't it?

That's interesting news! Where did you find it? (System & was it free floating/in a convoy/etc.?)

Mu Tauri- So not really close to Witch Head and not exactly imho in the vicinty of Merope either ( I still had about 400ly to go. ) I asked canonn and they have found UA's there before. So not really all that significant *shrug*

It was free floating and I found it within seconds of arriving in the system. Popped up as a Unknown Anomaly Threat 4

Good work commander! Iv been messing around in the Col 69 Area myself. I believe this weekend I will try to get everyone on board to tackle some Convoy USSs

Had a skirt around some of the edges of Col 70 (a few hundred LY) without discovering anything of interest, not that I really had much hopes in that direction. I've not done much surface exploring and found a couple of wrecked probes and a crashed fighter but I'm guessing that they're a common random surface event. The only USSs I found were degraded emissions.

So it was near to the star you come out of witchspace infront of?
I think I'll try heading there, then. I want to study UAs and UPs.

In a explorer Anaconda and in the area.

Will navigate systems around it and see if anything of note turns up.

It perturbs me that we are sealed off, so there's my motivation.
