THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

...It would be interesting to see the latest FD figure on the extent of the galaxy we have now explored. When MB did a livestream ages ago he said it was only about 0.001%, but the explored systems showing in EDD map seems to have gone up significantly over the last two years...

https://www.edsm.net/

0.002975% of the galaxy has been discovered on EDSM, it will take 62,765 years, 2 months, 3 days to discover it entirely.
Current known galactic population: 6,617,246,577,253

Checked the logs at:

System: EAFOTS RA-G B11-0
Beacon around: 3
Rally Point (settlement) on: 3
GAMMA SETTLEMENT FOUND by CMDR Sajime Chent-Shi 22nd Jan 3303

Apparently reports of heat signatures and strange lights - also reference to the Formadine Rift being called 'terror' in an old Earth language (as already deduced). Apparently this guy thinks there's something 'evil' out here that was watching them. I'm now convinced there must be something else to find in the Rift!

This is a possibility, but it could also be space madness/storytelling atmosphere. But we won't know unless you go looking and find something, so good hunting!

One of the problems with walls of text is that people don't always read them as thoroughly as they should. I know I'm guilty :)

I didn't say that TOW = Elyssia. I said that it is very likely that Rebecca and Elyssia knew each other. If Rebecca was a member of The Dark Wheel and Elyssia was married to the former leader of The Dark Wheel ...

EDIT: Because of the way the Oolite saga tended to include altered timelines ... I'm not 100% sure if Rebecca's family was murdered or not or even if Rebecca's last name is Tyley or Weston.

If the Rebecca from the Formidine Rift is the same Rebecca from the Oolite saga then she isn't a clone. That doesn't mean that Kahina couldn't be a clone of Rebecca though. If Kahina is a clone, however, my money is that she is from the same genetic source and Elyssia Fields.

Ah, did read but misinterpreted. Thanks for the clarification!

Ah thanks. Should have thought to check on EDSM. Nowadays I only use it via EDD.
Edit: of course not everybody uses EDSM/EDD, so there will,be discovered systems in the Fd servers that are not in EDSM. Shame that FD can'r/won't give EDSM a daily/weekly feed to keep it current.

Rifters... a question for you.

Since I've not been out this far before (and I'm still on my way), am I right in thinking that I should be heading for the Heisenburg Crossing, or is that just a way across the Rift? The maps show a vast area of space to investigate, so I'm curious about where I should be starting.
I appreciate all the info on the front page, with linked maps, and jumps across, and there's a sheet somewhere about search sectors, but where to actually start? The camps?

Apologies if this has already been asked and answered, buuuut......
the Oolite Saga, any of this considered canon?
Or should one read with a pinch of salt?

The conspirators have known about the threat for decades or centuries (Rebecca's logs) sso it is slow moving, but unstoppable. Like a swarm of locusts. So get far enough away from the bubble across a rift where there are few stars for the enemy to follow and you should be safe, at least for a fair while.

Mmmmhh, I dunno; A couple of million drones scouring and cataloguing human-hospitable worlds for surface activity... Having the terraforming criterion narrows the search considerably. I'd assume their travelling is at least on par with ours, if nothing else from spying/captured craft but then, who knows - if, despite everything, they can't do instant hyperspace jumps, then... :7

Enough time to develop Galactic Raid, or maybe manufacture enough mycoid to eradicate a species, perhaps it needs to be upgraded. Perhaps mycoid is not manufactured per se, but grown, perhaps on human subjects on specially terraformed laboratory worlds? Now that really would be hot water for the conspirators.

This actually raises an interesting extension, which I guess may be where you were going with this, other than just the atrocity thing, and harvesting. Would humans "inoculated" (hey, early vaccines derived from mold - perfect :p) with dormant mycoid fungi (maybe just not adapted to grow in us, maybe indeed stuffed into an engineered virus encapsulation) be flagged worthless as hosts to Thargoid larvae, or maybe even deliberately sacrificed for use as a sneaky infection vector...

...hmm, actually the frigid ammonia biology thing, and warm-blooded hosts of our sort, as used in the Dark Wheel, would appear two incompatible pieces of tentative lore, wouldn't they..? (EDIT: unless the change between stages is quite radical :p)

Lots of salt.

The Oolite Saga is definitely not canon. That said, there are elements that you'll recognize from Reclamation and, of course, Rebecca. It's also a good source to get into the mind of the author who taunts us with his wicked riddles, lol.

The bridge was very much a pre-engineers thing. With a jump range of mid 40s or higher you can just push across. However your jumps per kilolightyear will go up a fair bit.

So... just jump and explore then? And fly low across planets keeping your eyes open? Do bases or a.n.other show up as blue circle POI, or is purely the old mkI eyeball?

I'm going via Heart and Soul first. Should get there today, with any luck.

The Hutton Truckers were last on the scene on the whole Salome thing (we were held up at the bar until quite late and were too tispy to fly straight). HOWEVER, CMDR Javert found a black box in the wreckage and returned the contents to Hutton for decoding.

It isn't whatever secret message Salome had, but something entirely more personal. We will be broadcasting it this evening immediately following Hutton Orbital News (2030ish BST) on www.huttonorbital.com/radio.aspx and before the rest of the show. We will also be uploading it to the Hutton Orbital Radio soundcloud following the live broadcast

N.B. As approved by Drew Wagar who has confirmed its authenticity and yes, it is a piece of "fiction" tied to the Salome saga and no, it wasn't actually IN game in case anyone goes listening for it and yes, it MAY be her in her own words....

Ah, penny finally dropped... (I am a slow learner).

Im in the wrong thread.

The reason is because alot of people are role playing through ED, using rumours, hearsay and a book or 2 written by like minded people. Example above..and sometimes FDev must oblige by putting a beacon here or there with some text message playing along..example the Salome event.. My mistake for the misunderstanding, but im in the wrong thread.

Can anyone help and send me a link (if one exists) to a thread thats more about ED facts with no fiction? Eg finding flowerships, or the derilict ships or just other things to do, like getting unusal missions - stuff like that.

Not having a go about RP but its not for me.

Good luck with it all though.

Thanks

I'm not sure if such a thread exists and if it exists I suspect it would be extremely difficult to keep fiction, rumors and RP out of it.
The problem is, that a lot of things aren't known. Your example "flower ships" is a good example, nobody knows how really find them. We know the region of space and that's almost all we know. Everything else is assumptions, rumors, grasping straws.

I think you will need to adjust your "RP-filters".

Or ask in the different threads about different topics. I guess a lot of commenters will help you without RP, if you ask politely to not include RP in answers.

It takes a long time to build a fleet of 1,000 Death Stars. Probably took them a year just to gather enough loo rolls.

Strangely enough, a very relevant logistical issue for long term trips and colonisation. Have to force everyone to use recycled water in a bidet instead

Btw, what happened to all the meta alloys that were stolen by luko?
And what has happened to Luko and was it his Cobra that sent the distress call from somewhere in the Col 70 sector?

Personal stuff can still be informative, if e.g. a goodbye message comes with a bunch of juicy confessions... :p

If you use EDDiscovery there's a map of the Formidine Rift. You can bookmark ZURARA and the base camps yourself. You can track your progress, count your jumps, plan your route without the 1000ly limit of E D. So then decide what you want to do. A lot has already been surveyed in the Rift hunting over the last two years, but I'm sure there's scope for new discoveries. Do something different from other people & you may get famous. That's the beauty of exploration, do your own thing in whatever way you want.

First I've heard of humans being used to host Thargoid larvae. But from the lore I've read they do like to rend limb from limb, so physical contact with mycoid-infected humans left behind to slow down the invasion might well be a good tactic.

The Formidine Rift thread usually avoids RP, but a certain amount has crept in of late.
Think you want the Canonn thread, for science!
