[Recruitment] EMERGENCE - Multi-Game Sandbox Alliance

David himself said it's MMO in several interviews around E3. They aren't exactly consistent with terminology themselves.

Please people, enough of this endless cycle. FD will give us tools to try out social aspects of the game. Test them and provide feedback here. Before that this is fruitless and a little bit saddening.

I've definitely heard DBOBE talk about "MMO type aspects" of the game in various E3 interviews. I suspect he had to do this to deflect some of the obvious and unintentional attempts to pigeon hole the game by uninformed, uninterested and otherwise agenda fueled interviewers. However, I have never have I seen him or any other FD employee describe ED as an MMO either officially or off the record. They've only ever used the terms 'open world' and 'multiplayer' to my best knowledge.

Well, as I have said previously, MMO is already taken term, so I agree, it might be wrong to use (same as using "instances" when describing network - it just confuses hell out of people).

I prefer "persistent universe multiplayer game", if we talk about online modes. It would be nice if we could stick with this (or similar) term.

There was me thinking there are a number of expansions planned, so the game will quite obviously not have the same content throughout it's life.

Anyway, the relatively civil discourse on this subject has descended into trolling, so it's the last I'll say on this.

The expansion packs are there to add extra functionality and mechanics to the game core, not to add extra content as in a WoW or Rifts expansion adds extra areas, xp levels, dungeons/raids/instances, etc. Don't confuse being able to land on planets or walk around in a space station with extra special phaat lewts and LFM queues.

With this mentality why don't we brand everyone with different views from early backers as Goons and repel all new forums members with what could potentially be the most toxic welcoming committee the internet has ever seen?

It would just help that either one of you - you or Adept - would just stop to reply. We have very friendly forums here. Yes, guild discussions will be heated, and lot of "message pushing" is misguided...that's why someone needs to understand when to stop it.

I think mods should consider to close this thread. You can always repost your guild offering after Beta launches.

Either way it's more content to give players more reason to continue playing the game. Does same thing, serves same purpose.

The only people talking about 'lewts', raids and XP on these forums are the rabid anti-guild people.

Not true. Most of people just don't like how guild-centric MMO content is these days. That's why ED is respected for being single player centric, and that's not gonna change.

I doubt that FD will enforce a anti "group" policy. If they did , then why call it mmo , why invest in servers and sync technologys at all.
If they sell themselves as mmo, the people will group , in or out of game. Everything what a single player can do , will be possible to be done grouped ( and better), groups will be the force in the game ( like it is in any game, if you coordinate yourself, u will rule) . Lonewolfs surely will and can exisit but i bet they will miss parts of the game, as like eve online, they will sit in "high sec" and do their thing. Moaning about ganks and the cruel world outside.
The real end game will happen in the groups ( like lowsec or 0.0 in eve) and thats good.
I cant wait to shoot/gank the **** out of any carebear is see !

Bring on the stakes, let the dice roll and the tears flow !! thats the thrill.

So, your idea of fun is to spoil it for others?

Alright. I can respect that. I'll bow out for now :) I do find the EVE crowd hilarious though, and have no intention of letting them carry on the forum metagame here unchallenged by facts.

The 5 post sockpuppet was especially good. :D

New content is always good to continue the life of a game, I absolutely agree with you. New is good.

Planetary landings, once we get past the initial wow factor of going through atmospheres however, will bring about more trade opportunities.

It's simply expanding the already existing universe and would be in the game from day one be it not for financial and development time reasons.

Its not what I, or most people here, would call "endgame content" though. Its not going to keep someone who is bored of the games main dynamics interested.

I don't doubt there will be some elements of grouping required - this is primarily designed to be a co-operative game, despite what many want the game to be, and I'm sure missions will be there that will simply be impossible to do on your own.

That will be what the game is at the start, and what the game will be at the end. The meat and potatoes of the game will expand, just like the universe, of course.

Oh yes, the Elite community is defnitely the most toxic welcomig commitee the Internet has ever seen. Nailed it in one sir
I don't mean that it is. But a group looking for Goons and their agents at every turn can't make for a healthy community.

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about this chap. Just need to make sure this is copied onto every page in the discussion. Nothing more needs to be said really. (I won't of course)

I have had to go through some of the recent posts and pull bits out.

While this thread is dangerously off topic, some of the discussion has been valuable.

But continued language like goons, and carebears is dragging this thread south rapidly.

Please can we get back to the OP, where they are asking for people who would like to join their group etc.

If it continues to devolve into petit squabbling and further baiting we may need to close the thread and take actions where required..

So please can we steer this thread back to port!

What about if that 'meany' is ruining your game? (And you can define 'ruining' however you want. If it is detracting from your game experience then 'ruining' is what it is.)
With over 100.000 civilized systems, so some police support, and over 350 billion stars ( I assume they cut off 50 bil for expansion purposes later, just to err on the safe side ) it would take the combined might of the entire internet user base to credibly and consistently cause some minor inconvenience to you. Get why the ignore option that removes someone from your game utterly and completely forever is like scratching an itch with a thermonuclear warhead?

I don't mean that it is. But a group looking for Goons and their agents at every turn can't make for a healthy community.

And thus Goons win without effort, they ruin the game and the community just by existing somewhere online. FYI Mittani is also in this community somewhere ( he keeps good tabs on the game at least since E3, check his gaming review site ) so Pacal, Adept and Co. keep making it easier for them when they do inevitably show up.

Well they have certain negative rep around gaming community, justified or not. And using terminology like "carebear" or "carebear tears" or "melting faces" doesn't help at all. It just make lot of people very nervous. Not that justifies open jabs against you, but it kinda gives good background to understand people's reactions.

Problem is that "ruining your game" is very broad definition, I have talked about this about using word "griefing" as describing in-game rules. I would avoid it at any cost, because frankly lot of things will "ruin" your game. While ED not PVP oriented, it's also not entirely PvE oriented. It stands somewhere in the middle, but leaning forever towards PvE, as sandbox game, and it has big list of challenges for player to overcome.

All of those challenges could "ruin" your experience, including valid game play like pirating or taking part in combat. If ignore is just plain ignore, it opens up massive abuse option. And knowing that for FD it is all about checks and balances, I doubt it's their intent.

Back to topic :D - I have said this is good example of guild recruitment, and frankly I don't see why people started to attack OP. He maybe has assumed some things wrongly...but who hasn't in these forums. Fingers crossed this mutates into something ED friendly :)

right how do I add a filter to change Goon to Balloon's... then it would read nicer..

Any chance of getting back on topic?

What's actually the topic at this point? Its been a good thread in terms of revealing hopes and fears. Although the constant attacking of the op as being a Balloon just because he's interested in larger scale group play is getting a bit old :)
