Please be calm to FD – give them more time!

Its not easy to be patient, when 2.3 was the only update in past 7 months (with several more months to come before the next update - so probably the only update in 10/11 months) and it didn't even have anything of substance in it.

I guess for old stagers like us we are in need for new content, though for beginners it must be still very attractive.

Yes sure, but the share goes very well during the last months and will climb further I assume.

Indeed...and that should be the only reason anyone invests.

On the other hand, all this time without anything new (not even any kind of hint of things to come) grinds away any kind of hype or expectation, which in turn makes being patient easier due to the erosion of interest.

Seriously...I love Elite, but the last several times I got on, got EDMC going, loaded up EDFX, loaded into Open...and I just sit there, wondering what I really want to do. About 3 minutes of that, I let out a sigh, close everything down and continue with my playthrough of GTA 4.

Every day this week has been like that (last week was too busy).

Might be time to change my forum avatar and uninstall Elite Dangerous for a few months.

I wish they would have been brave and said only PC for this game.. But its a business and its all about making money, that's the reality.
But I don't think they have been doing nothing.. Multi crew for what it is must have been a very difficult feature to implement.. It needs work but still it is a big feature with promise.
I am still hopeful... I thought I could wait now that Mass effect has come out and that would keep me occupied but unfortunately that turned out to be a big steaming pile of....
so now I'm hoping FD might hurry up and bring something new out :)

I might be willing to be more calm/forgiving if FD in return would be more communicative with their customer base. Season 2 has been a very long and slow season. There have been many delays/pushbacks, the trickled out alien "content" and some good updates mixed with DOA content.

A simple:
"this is what we are working on,
this is what we have planned or want to try,
this is giving us problems/not possible given the game's limitations
Don't get your hopes up"

Would do wonders for a lot of people. I am a bit tired of two years of "maybes, no comment, I can't talk about that and eventually"

See reference: Unkown Worlds Subnautica Trello
For development communication done right.

So there's this..

"This engine allows the game teams to develop and debug their games primarily on PC, without the need to concern themselves with the technical details of the individual target platforms unless necessary. It also makes for clean, structured code, where the game logic only needs one set of verification at the beta stage of the project – greatly reducing the amount of testing time required for additional platform versions of a game."

The end results suggest otherwise.

with consoles its always the console makers QA procedures slow everything. you could make each console just a pc that was frozen in time on release day and had its keyboard removed and a controller software added to control it instead - and it would STILL take years to make a game for. because unlike pcs and the older consoles, sony and ms are in a war to the death over hardware that makes a loss on each sale - they NEED every game they approve to be a hit to recoup the losses on the hardware and make the things profitable. so they are way too picky about what is permitted to be released.

i am curious how Elite will evolve, and what new IP they have planned for us. Loving Planet coaster too!!! Keep going FD!!! Thanks for killing all my free time :)

Now, I'm not slagging FDev (too much). However, they clearly underestimated the size and complexity of what they set out to release for Horizons.

But consider what would have happened if they accurately estimated: they would have promised less and delivered less for the same price. The way things turned out, we get nearly two years of development work for the price of a single season! That's a pretty good bargain! :D

Seriously...wing content...my gods how is this not low-hanging fruit for Frontier.

I suspect someone's fruits hang low,
they likely wobble to and fro,
they might be tied in knots,
they might be tied in bows.
They might be throw over someone's shoulder,
like a Regimental Soldier,
but I do suspect someone's fruits to hang low.

The problem with this premise is that Frontier is not hurting for money now, their financials are rather good already. More money does not always equal more development.

There is something to be said for more earnings stemming from the ED franchise itself though. PS4 should bring that. We can assume it will firm up the game's lifespan potential and may provide a more stable and dedicated dev pool.

(I agree that we can only speculate on the causes of the Horizons slowdown, and that cash doesn't = dev capacity hikes per se. I'm thinking the cosmetics push suggests an inter-update cashflow issue though, and PS4 may help with that)

Nah, I prefer accurate outlooks for the money. Where we are now is complete mystery on what will get completed and when.

I would have paid double for the same content if I knew when any of it was coming out.

Four updates in nearly 2 years to make up one Horizons season.

Certainly, you must understand the frustration and the lack of patience.

EDIT: Buying FDev stock does not give them more development money. You are just trading existing stocks in that scenario.

No time at any point did FDevs say that a season would = one year! This is not a TV show.
Personally, I would rather they take their time for quality... you can have things quick, or you can have quality. But you can't have both!

They as good as did, the initial roadmap was essentially quarterly.

2.1 – The Engineers

Coming Spring 2016

...

2.2 – The Guardians

Coming Summer 2016

...

2.3 – The Commanders

Coming Fall 2016

But sure, I agree with the principle :)

And like the idea that more time might be bought for the really hard stuff like Atmos and Legs this way. More chance of getting a considered and well realised addition at the end...

Obviously I know it isn't a TV show...lord.

I didn't expect that either...but FDev didn't set ANY expectation and two years is a long time for what we have.

I'm pretty patient when it comes to development. I live and breath software dev everyday and I'm pretty understanding of things. Two years, no timeline...it is frustrating.

And speaking of quality...well...let's not open that can of worms

Why do we can worms anyways? Can't we bottle them? Or bag them? Or even keep them in boxes? Why is it always cans of worms?

Well...can of worms refers to the gag joke where when you open the can a bunch of confetti worms pop out and make a mess everywhere. that is what makes it relevant to making a big mess no one wants to deal with.

Most bait worms come in a cup with some cling wrap over the top :D

Would be a helluva lot easier to have patience if we had just an inkling of what we were waiting for...without even a basic notion or hint, one is left to speculate based on what has already came from FD...thats kinda thin over the last year.

Theres also the small matter of FD themselves losing patience with their own playerbase and stopping communication. Would actually like to point out that some of us werent actually here when others in the community got antsy...so everyone gets punished with silence because they lost patience.

And you ask fer patience...considering the background, thats a really big ask. FD should be all too aware from personal experience that patience are not limitless and much of the previous good will has evaporated...thats on them far as Im concerned and its upto them to make things right.

Personally, Ill decline because the ball is still in their court and its their serve ^
